Seems like only yesterday that I watched Jimmie at a race I believe was Watkins Glen in the Busch series. Jimmie for some reason, missed a corner and went head long through the pebbles into a tire lined wall. The car stopped abruptly and there was some concern about Jimmie. He jumped out of the car and stood on the roof and there was relief everywhere. Jimmie was at that time just a so so driver in the Busch series and I don't think that many people thought he had a very good future in NASCAR. Oh how quickly the time flies and with his third consecutive Cup title, I do believe that we have found the "Next Jeff Gordon" as the series has always been asking. A big congrats to the Lowes team for everything that they've done. Now the speculation begins about can he make history again, tieing Jeff Gordon with four titles. :beerbang:

There should be no question. Jimmie has established himself as one of the best. Winning 3 in a row is unbelievable. My Congrats to him, knaus, and the whole team.

Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson, Chad Knaus and the entire 48 team! What a year! 3 IN A ROW!!! :beerbang::beerbang:

Time to say dynasty.

Congratulations Jimmie, Chad, Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff and everyone at Lowe's.

You have to admit Jimmie is a class act. I mean he goes out of his way to re-attach stop signs, help broke down school buses, trim tree limbs, etc.

Kevin Harvick, OTOH, decides to do donuts in a cul-de-sac with children nearby. If he loses control he could easily run one of them over.

Then you have Montoya who is so cheap that he takes his sponsor freebies and decorates his entire house and yard with the stuff. And I mean that stuff is tacky.

I could go on but I think you get the idea... :D

Post of the day!

Congrats to Jimmy, Chad and the entire #48 team. Also to the owner...Jeff Gordon.

I think it's time to change the question...

So do you think Jeff will be able to be the NEXT Jimmie Johnson? :)

Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson and the whole 48 Team!

Congratulations to Carl on a great season and earning the most points this year. ;)

congrats to both in the top 2. I thought it was neat Carl walked to jimmies car. Those 2 guys are real racers (ok, +- chad).

So now, is it the drive for five, or more for four?

Congrats to Jimmie Johnson for 3 in a row. He could make it 4 in a row.

And kudos to Chad Knaus for the only crew chief to win 3 championships.

I believe the throttle hung open and he went straight on into the tire barrier. It was a scary sight.

I didn't think Johnson would be all of that based on his Busch career. He rarely ran up front and was more known for that Watkins Glen crash. However, he was the one that actually beat Adam Petty for ASA Rookie of the Year back in the late 90's. Adam won one race that year and I think Johnson won two races.

More interesting is the fact the commercial draws attention to a reckless driver in a high powered car doing donuts in a cul de sac with a woman and children standing nearby, is sponsored by an insurance company.

and my insurance would be $700/month if I had a Corvette.

So are you implying that the way Harvick drives on the track is the way he drives in real life... :D

The thing I've said all along about Johnson is he doesn't excite people or make them mad unless he wrecks their guy or the fact that people are tired of seeing him win. He doesn't make people laugh, cry, get mad, or offer any thought-provoking comments. He seems like a nice enough guy, but he doesn't get people stirred up. As many times I've gone to Bristol, I have only seen a handful of JJ shirts or hats.

That does pretty much sum it up. With me, it's like this. When other drivers I didn't like were winning all the time, I was there rooting on someone to beat him. With JJ, I pretty much just watch something else.

That's just it, Jimmie's boring.

Carl's kind of boring as well but I love the backflips. And I love Wildthing's pompous bows.

Jimmie? Worn out burnout that I see 1,000 of everytime I go to MIR. -_-

THERE IS NOTHING EXCITING ABOUT A BURNOUT! If you want a burnout, go to a drag race.

Jimmie Johnson finished out the ASA season in 1999 and went on to drive the last 3 BGN races in Memphis, Phoenix and Homestead that year. It was his introduction to the Nascar series. I had driven one of the motorhomes for the team owners for those last 3 races and had the chance to meet Jimmie and spend a little time with him. I remember driving the golf cart and I was supposed to make sure he made the driver's meeting on time.

It was slow going through the pedestrian traffic along the outside of the track and no one knew who Jimmie was and he was happy with that. With the going so slow with the cart, Jimmie insisted on walking the rest of the way to the meeting. I was concerned as I didn't want to be the one to make him late for the meeting. But Jimmie just wanted to (in his own words) "play the fan" and walk amongst the crowd and get the feeling of being at Phoenix as just "one of the crowd." He was in awe with the fact that the night before, he was able to spend time with Earnhardt Jr. and toss down a few beers with him.

I was impressed on how humble Jimmie was and just one of the guys. I had one other time to chat with him in the motorhome and he was just a "down-to-earth young man. I was impressed with his politeness and just being an all around good guy. I also had the pleasure of working with his Dad when he drove the ASA hauler and we worked out of the same shop.

Jimmie Johnson comes from a good family and watching his abilities in ASA and his raw beginning in BGN, I just knew that he would be a star one day. I am happy to see him win another championship and I hope that there will be more to follow.

Yeah, that was pretty funny! It's nice to see Jimmie not being so P.C. and having some fun. :D

That was a pretty funny line. I was glad to hear he dared to say it.

Jimmie Johnson is one hell of a good driver, with exceptional equipment. He has benefited in some ways, by the long held hatred many racing fans have had for Jeff Gordon. They may not care for Jimmie because he is a teammate of Jeff, but they have just not been able to sum up the outright venomous hatred they have reserved for Jeff Gordon. In addition, Jimmie doesn't have a natural rival like Dale Earnhardt Sr who's fans were/are loyal and plentiful. DE's fans saw Jeff Gordon as everything that was wrong with America as well as DE's biggest threat on a weekly basis.

Jimmie also has great equipment as I said, but I don't want anyone to think that I mean this as an insult. All champions have had great equipment. You simply can not win consistently with inferior equipment, no matter how talented a driver you are. Robby Gordon is a perfect example of that. I can't stand him, but Robby Gordon is one hell of a talented driver. Yet, you never see him win because talent without great equipment leaves you back in the pack.

Jimmie is a great driver who deserves everything he has. I also don't think that this will be his last championship either.

As a Jeff Gordon fan, I am happy to see Jimmie winning titles with Jeff as a partial owner of the team. I would rather see Jeff win another two or three himself, but if JG can't win them anymore I'd like to see Jimmie do it instead.

I'd just rather see Jeff win instead. ;)

It's interesting in that I hear a lot more cheering for Jeff these days. I hear cheering when he passes Jimmie. He's definitely not the most booed driver anymore. I think Kyle took that honor this past year.

Still, I've heard from a lot of long-time Gordon "haters" that they've changed their minds through the years and he doesn't really bother them like he once did. I guess it dosn't hurt that Jr is his teammate now, but they still aren't crazy about Jimmie. I guess Jeff has finally earned their respect or they've just moved on to hating someone else more. ;)

This is very accurate. I am a long time Jeffy hater, but over the last 2 years or so, have come to respect him a lot more. He's not quite the same Nascar butt-kissing, corporate shilling driver he once was (although I do still blame him in large part for the current "vanilla" flavor of so many drivers today.)

With me, and I kinda alluded to this before, is that with Jeff, when he was winning everything, I was watching, rooting on the other drivers to beat him. With Jimmie winning it all, I just ain't watching. With Jeff, I'd just throw my hat at the TV when he crossed the finish line. With Jimmy, I don't see him cross the finsih line, 'cause I quite watching the race hours before.

I don't think I've ever "hated" any driver(except maybe, Jeremy Mayfield for "the bump ;) LOL ). I may not root for them, but hate is too strong of a word for me.

And while I may not root "for" certain drivers, I do admire talent. I applaud any driver who demonstrates talent and ability at his/her chosen craft.

Hmm, that's the day Jeremy became my hero. :D

I do too.

Hi all....I'm new here
Why would you think that Jeff Gordon has anything to do with "Vanilla " drivers in NASCAR? He doesn't recruit them.....they all end up here with skill and market-ability.....and money doesn't hurt.

Listen to Jeff Gordon on the scanner and then tell me if he's "vanilla."

That could be said for a lot of them. :D
I don't know if NASCAR spends time at racetracks or not but they want these drivers to act appropriatte for broadcast TV all the time. Obviously, they haven't gone to Old Dominion Speedway and heard the words that come out of drivers' mouths when they get wrecked down there.

Racecar drivers' mouths can make sailors and Marines blush when they've been swept up in an accident.:D

I have..But you make it sound like him being there, brings other guys like him.

I 'm neutral when it comes to Gordon, but you can't deny his talent. Jimmy Johnson is straight up boring, but again, good driver, and I think Chad Knause , and crew are probably the best.

I'm willing to bet that Jimmie's investment advisor doesn't find him boring.
Besides, what we see on TV may not be who he really is. You watch him for a few minutes in an interview and somehow it doesn't measure up to what you think he should have said or done. Too often people want to project what they think they see to be the entire scope of that person's life. Most times you are wrong. Look at the likes of Pee Wee Herman or George Michael. Who knew until they got caught.
And, I'm even willing to go out on a limb and imagine that Andy is not really as he appears here to all of us.
