Jimmie - The Best Ever

When he gets to 8 titles, we can definitely have that discussion. As of right now though, I would put him behind only Petty, Pearson, and Earnhardt.

I wouldn't say he's the best ever, simply because the rules that the other greats (Earnhardt Sr, Petty, Pearson) have raced under are different than they are now, so is the points system. However, do I think he deserves a spot among NASCAR's great? Yes I do.

JJ is already the best of his time and overall he'll be be top 2 on the all time best.

He's going to get at the very least 1 more championship and around 100 wins.

Like the king said when DALE won seven. I did my thing in my time and he did his thing in his time. so jimmie is next in line to do his thing.

Fair enough although my question is......"Is he on the way to being the best ever". The article I posted by hardin question David Person's ability to run the short tracks. If you believe that then JJ is surely chasing down dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty (oh yeah, and Jeff Gordon who if things had gone differently could have been the best ever). :)

Is Jimmie the best ever? No, not yet. Is he the best active driver? Yes.

It's very simple for me. If Jimmie wins 7 championships he's in the conversation. If he wins 8 or more, he's the best ever.

Am I the only one who must've wondered what the conversation between Jeff Gordon and Richard Hendrick must've been like when Gordon brought up Jimmie Johnson? I mean Johnson wasn't that great of a Nationwide driver.

Considering it was Jeff who urged Mr. H to hire JJ in the first place, I'd say it was a good hire.

I got to see all of them race in my lifetime. There all great and many more are too in my book.

There is no "greatest ever" and there never will be. We don't know how Jimmie would have run in Petty's era, and vice-versa. However, Jimmie is obviously the greatest of the "modern-era."

The best in this season of Nascar today was JJ.

what is the modern-era? he has the most championships since DALE. I thought DALE was the modern-era.

Congrats to Chad and his monkey.. The guy puts hot rods on the track every week. Please don't try to compare Jimmi to the King, I doubt Jimmi could even turn a car without power steering

so what could the rest do then,if he is kicking their asses?

I'd say the 48 team may be the best ever.

Before I give JJ the tag of best driver ever I'd like to see how he does without Chad. All the other "best driver evers" had different crew chiefs to work with.

Best team ever? Sure, why not.

Actually, Richard Petty had the same Crew Chief throughout his seven Championship run.

If Chad were ever to leave the 48, the line would be around the block with other crew chiefs willing to take his place.

I know drivers won champions with other crew chiefs. how many crew chiefs won championships with different drives?

Don't make me say what you don't want to hear. lol ;)

I dont know about best ever, but he is definitely better than anyone he has competed against in Cup.

Who's the best ever? A great question because there is no solution, it is to subjective.

I doubt that we could get folks to even agree on how to define the attributes.

That's what I am thinking, let's give it some time. He probably is but I still don't think Jimmie is done winning. Let's see what the next few years have for us.

So true. There are so many variables involved. The only way to say who is best ever is if they all raced at the same time.

I think the most you can really say is best of their era.

Because Richard Petty won with a bad CC and horrible equipment, right?

Keep in mind Jimmie would be a three time champion if not for the chase. I would rank Jimmie among the best of all time, but I don't consider him the best of all time. If he keeps winning races and championships like he has been, I might in the future.

43 drivers start every race and after 36 of them he his the winner, end of story.
