Jimmie - The Best Ever

Different eras different scenarios. Petty in it's infancy. Earnhardt in it's premature age. Gordon in the teen years and now Johnson in NASCAR's adulthood. Best ever? No. There is a reason Petty is dubbed The King

Earnhardt won 76 races between 1979 to 2000. Thats a 22 season period.

Jimmie Johnson has won 65 races between 2002 to 2013. That's a 12 season period.

thought I would hi-lite the initial post.
And, as Andy has posted. His wins and championships were done in a 12 season career. :)
how many years did it take HMS and Roush money and two/three car teams beat RCR 3? JJ got the benefit of money and time.

That's why Alan Kulwicki is the best ever. He's the last to win the Cup in a small one-car operation based in a tiny shop.

RCR won two more as a one car team after that.
Not at all like what Kulwicki did though. Alan was an independent owner/driver who won a Winston Cup championship in only his 7th season in the sport. RCR was a big time, big dollar organization by that time, even though they only fielded one car.

I know all about the hooter car,i was at the dover race where it all started.

As much as I hate to say it he's the best of his time and a lock for the hall of fame one day. Best ever? I don't know it's hard to judge that when so much changes over different eras. But I would rank him top 10 maybe even top 5 of all time.

Cast your vote to rank nascar's greatest drivers.

My ranking far right column...

DALE will be #1 for about ten more years, as his loyal fans stop watching or fade away he will descend downward in the polls.

How is Pearson clear down to #7?

For me it was really a 3 way tie for 5th between Cale, DW, and Pearson.
I guess I should have put Pearson in 5th now that I think about it.

When I made my picks Petty had the most votes for number 1.

*How are the points calculated?
On a poll with 10 options, a No.1 ranking equals 10 points, a No.2 ranking equals 9 points, etc. The item with the most points will be ranked first.
