J.D. Gibbs gives Joey Logano vote of confidence: Rumors earlier this month that Joe Gibbs Racing considered replacing #20-Joey Logano with Martin Truex Jr. didn't reach Logano until Joe Gibbs told the rookie they weren't true. "I like this saying: the brighter the spotlight on you, the more bugs it attracts," Logano said. "The more people are going to talk about you, the more all that's going to happen. ... If people want to make stuff up that's fine." Since then, the organization has emphasized its confidence in the 18-year-old's future. "Watching everything he's done up to this point, he's really gifted," said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. "He's the guy; we feel like he's the guy of the future." Tony Stewart's departure from JGR one season before his contract expired caused the vacancy in the #20 Toyota. Gibbs said there was talk of keeping Logano longer in Nationwide, but Cup and Nationwide cars are too different. They knew 2009 would be a challenging year. "Before the year's out we expect to be out front challenging, and next year we'd like to come out of the box and grow," Gibbs said. "I don't care who you are in this sport, you have to perform as a team or you won't be here. There's no franchising to guarantee a spot."(Orlando Sentinel)(4-17-2009)

Don't write Joey off just yet!

Another hot shot flop. 35th in the standings with no Top 10 finishes, in a Gibbs Car. That is all driver. He and Ragan should go back to full time Nationwide racing. That is where those two belong.

Now you know that it's not Joey's fault. Why he must have bad equipment. What? Oh, he's driving Tony's stuff. Well Tony did pretty good in that car. It must be the crew chief. What, again? Oh, he got Tony's crew chief as well. Hmmm, same car, same crew chief, mostly the same crew, same owner, and he still can't crack the top 20. Darn what's left? Cause we know its not Joey's fault... ;)

If I didn't know better I would have thought that was Joe Gibbs talkin.

Joey is going to be just fine in the Cup. It just may take a bit.

Joey is going to be one of these guys who wins one race every 3 or 4 years and amounts to a big nothing. We certainly have enough of those in Nascar today.

I think given some time in the seat Joey will do just fine. In a couple of years he might even give Kyle a run for his money. He is just eight races into this season and still trying to get a handle on the car. He has to be overwhelmed right now.

He's just 18. And seems to have a good handle on the Nationwide cars, just can't get it with the COT just yet.

Smoke and MRM, you said it. He needs time. Nationwide won't help him any since it's an entirely different car. In fact, I wonder if this car drives more like the Trucks. Maybe Gibbs should put him in some Truck races.

Good gawd, does a driver have to win five or six races in his first year before you think that he has a future? Damn, your profile lists you as being retired, so I would think that you've been a fan for many years. Remember when a driver had to pay his dues just to get a good ride?

Come on buckaroo. Surely you know that all of the drivers must win at least 8 to 10 races every year to even be considered a decent driver. isn't that how they did it in the olden days. :D

Well despite my natural cynicism I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Joey sticks with it he'll win more than that paragon of Nascar Excellence. None other than the legendary Lil'E...

I'm old so my memory is shot. Must have been the way it was back in the day.

ROFL Glad I'm so much younger (cough cough) that I don't have to pretend to even remember. heh heh ;)

I can't argue with that. If you and I went out there with decent sponsorship, we could probably do as well as his highness, the Little E. I think "Little E" is a term to describe his intellingence, like a "Little Empty in the head".

Another hater from the 4m boards.

Hmm really ever think that this COT car is a huge adjustment over the Busch cars that Joey has raced for the last 3 years? Maybe he got rushed along a little too quickly, but there had to be a big reason why all the Gibbs camp put that kid in the 20. He has a load a talent, he is smart, and with a little more experience he will be a winner. He has won in everything he has raced. By the time The Brickyard roles around I think this kid will be cracking the top 20 consistently, maybe even getting a top 10 every once in awhile. Seat time is key, the more he gets the better he will become.

Dude you just don't stop do you......seems to me statements like that actually show the board just how intelligent you are.

Well Joey has my vote of confidence. It may take a year or 2, but I think the kid has a very bright future in the sport. JMHO

He has shown nothing so far. This kid will not be around in a year or two if he can not produce. Nascar is going down hill in a hurry. Do you really think that Home Depot is going to waste their money on some kid who is battling to stay in the Top 35 after they sponsored Tony Stewart? They are going to want a lot more than "a year or two". Grow up people and smell the coffee. Nascar is going through some very tough times. Teams are going broke. Sponsors are not going to settle for projects. It is win now, or get out. It is not that big of an adjustment from Nationwide cars to Sprint cars. It is not like he is going from the IRL to stock cars.

I stand corrected. Sprint Cup Car. My point is still valid. Try debating it. You can't, and you know it.

So you've driven a Nationwide car and a Sprint Cup car and KNOW there's very little difference?

Well big mouth, to answer your question, YES. I was involved in Nascar for many a year, and still talk to the drivers, and owners when they come out West,or when I go to see a race. I have driven cars much faster than the ones they have today, because they did not have restrictor plates back in my day. There is a difference, especially in the handling. The boxes are basically nothing more than IROC cars, if you are old enough to remember that series. They are set up almost identically. There is a much more pronounced difference in the Nationwide cars. Most of the parts in a Sprint Cup car are interchangeable with any other car, and that means ANY, not just one alleged "brand" name car. There is verry little difference between a Chevy, a Dodge, a Ford, or a Toyota. The difference is what the car crew chiefs and get away with . Nascar wants it this way. The Nationwide series offers a car with less body restrictions, but also less horsepower, but again, not a huge difference between their cars and the boxes.

Now if you really think about it, the difference is the drivers. While a handfull of dirvers compete for both titles, the Nationwide series does not see nearly as many good drivers as the Cup series sees. Logano has been unable to compete on the Cup level because he can not compete with Cup drivers. He is not the first that will fall way short of expectations, and he will not be the last. Just look at David Ragan. How many years do we have to listen to: "He is due to break out with a win"? Logano's disadvantage is that he has a big sponsor that dumped big money into him and demands results. If they do not get it by the end of this year, either he is gone, or they go somewheres else.

LOL, what a a$$ of a statement. All drivers that gives interviews that I hear, say there IS a big difference.

I love morons

So the drivers and owners that have told me there's a big different between the COT and the Nationwide cars are lying?

Great. I'll be sure to let them know.

LOL, that's all I've heard to.

Then again, we all know Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Junyer, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer (among others) have no talent and wouldn't be where they are if it weren't for their parents. :sarcasm:

Well big mouthdo you feel the need to insult someone in everyone of your posts? to answer your question, YES. Now if you really think about it, the difference is the drivers. Logano has been unable to compete on the Cup level because he can not compete with Cup drivers.I give up, how do you rationalize this,,,,,,, He is not the first that will fall way short of expectations, and he will not be the last. Just look at David Ragan. How many years do we have to listen to: "He is due to break out with a win"? Logano's disadvantage is that he has a big sponsor that dumped big money into him and demands results. :bsflag:

For crying out loud! Joey is racing on tracks today he has never seen before. Give him a little credit. Wait until mid summer when he starts seeing tracks where he has raced once before. The take a chill pill and wait until next year when he actually has some experience in the car and a track looks familiar...

The fact that testing was banned this year hasn't helped either!

So that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but I sure as heck don't have to buy into BS.
Like someone posted earlier, your opinion and ranting says a lot more about you than it does about Joey's abilities or lack there of.

Your total lack of knowledge is proven in this statement alone;
It is not that big of an adjustment from Nationwide cars to Sprint cars.

EVERY driver interviewed tell what a huge difference there is.

I also drove in lower NASCAR series races back in my day and unless you were driving in WINSTON Cup it is pure BS you drove faster in races than these guys. But also I guess according to your statement you didn't realize they only run RP at Daytona and Taladega.
I also talk to drivers when they come out to the west coast and I've been to Robby Gordons shop a few times and talked with him.
Funny how all my conversations they tell me their is a HUGE difference. I'm thinking they know more than you so I think I'll keep my opinion, ALL of them, including the one about how little you actually do know

Thats what is wrong with alot of NASCAR fans today........ since Gordon and Stewart and others "burst" onto the scene, and did good ( BTW, Gordon tore up alot of cars before he got HIS first win, and I think he turned out ok......)
Fans today think someone is supposed to just show up, get a great car, and win races right outta the box. Well, it takes time to gel....... teams gotta learn to communicate, drivers have to learn the tracks, cars, crews, etc....... it is alot of varibles.
Joey has jumped in and won in alot of stuff...... I was really impressed last year at the Rock, he killed the field there........ BUT, this is NASCAR...... this is the best of the best. ( reguarless of what some on here think)
It is not that easy. I wish Joey woulda been given more time, but he wasn't. Now he has to survive. Its sad the way things are today........ I mean look how long Dale Earnhardt struggled before was winning...... and yea, I'm not talkin about '79 either........ look back further than that.

Difference between NW and Cup. Example Jimmie Johnson even in Hendrick equipment and Chad Kanus helping out how many NW/Busch races has he won? Now how many Cup races and championships? Of course there is a difference:p
