Johali's Rate the Cup race --- Roval

6. I’m sorry I don’t find the Roval exciting. Never have, especially when we know these cars can go on 1.5’s

5. Clean air fest. 9 in lead was gapping field half a second a lap. Bury him in the field and he struggled to get by Rick Ware cars. 16 got lead and despite being a 3rd or 4th place car was invincible. Good drama at the end, but you new shirt of AJ blowing a corner it was over despite all the “drama.”

I was there and had a great time, but I don’t want to let that cloud my judgment too much on the rating. I’ll go with an 8.

What a blast to be at the track! I didn’t rate the race as it didn’t translate well to the small screen in my opinion. I figured it was an entertaining race from the stands though and I’m happy you enjoyed it live!

Thank you! Yeah, we probably saw a lot of battles that TV didn’t pick up.

I don't get the Roval hate.
I've been to all six and honestly, this was second worst behind only last year. With that acknowledged, it was much better than last year's parade.

Some people don't like any form of road course, and they don't like the Roval because it came at the expense of Charlotte's October oval race. I guess I can get that; I can't stand plate tracks.

Others like twisties but don't like the Roval because it isn't a 'true' road course, which they'd prefer to see on the schedule. Maybe it isn't, but the same drivers that excel on other R/Cs are usually favored here and consistently run up front.

Me, I like how it's close enough to a 'true' R/C that the drivers can demonstrate their skills, but I can see the entire track from my seat. Same deal with the Daytona layout for the Rolex, which is the only event there I hope to ever attend. You can't say that about any of the 'true' road courses, which is why I'm not likely to go to one.

8.5. Good racing. Congratulations to A.J. Really special to see his emotion and gratitude to fans for welcoming his win.

Waiting for Martinsville!!

The Roval was made because fans, me included, were burned out watching three races on the Charlotte oval almost every year along with all the rest of the 1.5's. It's no surprise that many of the same fans are wanting 3 or more races a year back at Charlotte.

6...can't rate a track position race any higher. But it was really cool to watch AJ win and have a winner that was excited about winning.

I don’t think anyone wants the All-Star back at Charlotte.

Honestly, with the new car and how well it races at Charlotte…. It’d be a better show than NW. *ducks*
Honestly, you’re probably right, but even if Charlotte is the industry’s “home track”, three major events there feels like one too many, and Wilkesboro generated a ton of energy for the sport despite the racing product falling a bit short. I’m hopeful the repave will improve things a bit.

In the real world watching Larson who could have easily lapped the whole field at N.W. was if it had been anywhere else, fans would be sending bulldozers. I pretty much laughed the whole race, it was a pretty terrible race unless you didn't have a problem with Larson completely stinking up the show. It's hopefully all directions up for that track, but IMO there were more than a few reasons why it was abandoned by the larger series in the first place.

Oh, great, here come the villagers again. They must keep those torches and pitchforks right behind the door. I'll have Igor raise the drawbridge.

Again, best car won. Too many fenders were still on the cars at the end for me. When they make a venue into something it was never intended to be, the race should be the same. WWA of racing.
