This track for some reason isn't bringing up good racing memories. Can someone give me a story of a good finish or race in the past at this track? Need help in getting into the mood for Kansas race :)

'04 finish between Ricky Rudd and Joe Nemechek. The last time two single-car operations finished 1-2 in the Cup Series and one of the closest 40 finishes since electronic scoring began.

I have to work 12 hours sunday, that makes it a good scorched earth opportunity or a Kansas race date, while saving Richmond for my next free weekend.

I normally have no interest in these large tri-oval tracks, but I was going into the California race thinking it was going to be dull as all hell but it turned out to be the best race so far this year. So I dont know what to expect anymore

It's a good thing it's Kansas this weekend because I have a lot to do around the house.

Hey, exciting chicagoland and kentucky arent far away either. You know, I really cannot understand how tracks like these get two races a year, and they take out tracks like riverside, and rockingham altogether. Not to mention cutting tracks like Darlington down to only one race

I agree but I have always heard that cost of real estate in Cali shutdown Riverside

I expect a pretty lousy show to be honest. Kansas is just too much of a cookie cutter track for me. I wonder if Brian France is going to hunt me down and fine me for saying the brand is lousy sometimes?

It makes no sense does it unless its about the all mighty dollar for the France mafia. Kentucky and Kansas should get one race a year and Darlington desperately needs two also with bringing the Rock back.

Riverside was worth more as a shopping center than a race track. Rockingham had great racing but no one showed up to watch the events.

Kentucky and Chicago only have one race a year and to be honest, I think the racing at Chicago is usually pretty solid. The fact that Chicago has no real straightaways and is a constant(however slight) left lean around the whole track makes it pretty challenging IMHO.

I'm working on a project in Omaha right now and I'll be there this weekend. Looked up tickets last night and there was plenty available. Not far to drive but not sure if I'm goin yet.

NASCAR goes were people buy tickets. The last few Cup races at Rockingham were mediocre attendance wise. Besides, I don't think leaving Rivderside was NASCAR's idea. I think a developer bought it up and turned it into condos or something. Same things happened to the old Ontario Motor Speedway (cool Indy clone in California, if anybody doesn't remember) and like 100 other cool old race tracks.

Or what he said. I should read all the replies before writing my own. lol.

As for Kansas, I personally think it'll be a good race. Gen 6 + repave, I'm expecting exciting racing, like what we saw at Phoenix and Fontana.

New pavement=hard tires and a single groove. Less than ideal but I'll still watch every lap of everything broadcast from the track this weekend. :)

might be new payment at Kansas, but the track was reconfigured as well with progressive banking. That could make a difference with the racing.

It's funny, I'm in KC this weekend, staying at a hotel near the airport. And, I ate at a Chick Fil A across from the track for lunch today. And, I noticed that the Goodyear guys are here, staying in my hotel.

OK, the funny part: I'm here for three weeks starting this past Monday, and didn't even realize Kansas was this weekend until like Sunday. Instead, I'm traveling to dirt tracks in the area (including a bucketlist track, Knoxville)

That said though, before everyone jumps to the conclusion that Kansas will be a bore, remember how good California was this year with the new car? We were all sure that it was gonna be a bore, and incapable of producing a good race. But what happened? Yes, California turned out to be a great race.

I think NASCAR needs to quit worrying about attendance and go to some better tracks. Just about every race gets mediocre attendance now.

As for Kansas, track only has two dates because it's an ISC track and it has a casino. Chicago is a horrible bore most of the times and the fans don't show up there so NASCAR awards it an ISC date. It's all money. They'd rather have 70,000 people show up to a boring race that the millions of viewers turn off than have 40,000 people at a good race that fans turn on.

California's gotten better over the years - there have been quite a few good races there lately. These tracks get better when they age a little bit except for Atlanta - that track's a horrible bore now.

As for the Gen 6 car, it seems to be producing racing reminiscent of the 1990s when Daytona and Talladega were only okay races but the other tracks were also good.

I think Atlanta's a solid track, one of the best 1.5s for sure.

What he said.

Although the speed doesn't equal good racing, they will be flying at Kansas. What did Larry Mac say the Gen 6 cars were doing at Kansas during testing? Like 210 going into the turns or something? Now we're cooking with gasoline.

That's true. The NASCAR bubble has burst for sure. I think that's the only reason NASCAR has experimented with things like sending the trucks back to Rockingham and to Eldora for the first time. The generic cookie cutter 1.5 isn't a surefire sellout anymore so NASCAR seems to be experimenting a little bit with the lower series. Whether or not these cool little tracks will ever trickle up to the Cup schedule remains to be seen.

Speeds at Michigan will be ridiculous. I wonder if NASCAR's got restrcitor plates ready:rolleyes:

Yeah, they were hitting 214 going into the corners at Michigan last year, post-repave. They're going to be screaming in the Gen 6 care.

I'm a Nascar fan , and I am expecting yet another exciting race . I am looking forward to watching my 43 favorite drivers duke it out once again. I have absolutely no idea who will win. I don't know if accidents ,pit stops or race stratagy will be factors. If the finish is close , great , if the leader puts the field a lap down , that's racin , either way , it will be exciting for me .:jamming:

You must attending the race and have a garage pass ;) Even if all 43 starters somehow managed to finish the race, they wouldn't all get TV coverage unless involved in a wreck.

I watch the entire race and follow the leader board on tv as well as my laptop. I see faster cars working their way up though the field , usually before the broadcast crew. I also watch cars that gain and/or lose on pit stops . There is much more to Nascar racing than 'close finishes'.

And those that are in the garage by lap 12?

Oh please , that old wifes tale . Get over it . Last week , one car out at lap 44 . Where do people get this stuff?

And 38 cars were running at the end of the race including Joe Nemechek.

However, Gordan was a start and park. :D

They didn't need them last June when the pavement was new and the pavement has had brutal winter/spring to degrade a bit. I am just hopeful that a second or 3rd groove develops and that we can eventually get back to this at MIS:
