Kimi Räikkönen NASCAR Appreciation Thread

Having read through this thread, I can't help but love the "@Charlie Spencer against the world" chatter that has broken out.

kudos, Charlie. I agree with virtually everything you've said about the guy's entry in Sunday's race.

I predict he will get spun out early in the race, and retire instead of driving around and advertising his sponsor with an uncompetative car.
 
I do wonder if he will survive the restarts, he doesn't know which drivers to avoid or watch out for.
 


It's sad that many fans of roadracing are so ignorant and dismissive about oval racing. Ovals and road courses demand different things, or more accurately, demand the same array of things but weight them differently.

Roadracing is more about laying down fast lap times; ovals are more about hand-to-hand combat. That's an over-simplified generalization, but there's some truth to it. Actual racers who are familiar with both tend to be very respectful of both, whether they participate in one or the other or both.

To me, Watkins Glen was always a highlight of the F1 season back in the day, in part because there was actual newspaper coverage of the race. Most of the races got nothing more than a tiny box score of results on the back page, underneath the minor league baseball scores. In many U.S. newspapers back in the 1960's, F1 didn't even get that... unless there was a fatal accident... :(

Kimi is good at learning new circuits and quickly getting up to speed. The haiku below shows his prowess at figuring out the circuit...

I can't comment on his ability to learn new circuits, but all the haiki demonstrates is his ability to write poetry. Being able to write about something isn't evidence of being able to do it.
 
I don’t see what was so disrespectful about it, Juan Pablo Montoya had to run ARCA to get approved to run races lol.

I thought that was more of a Chip Ganassi idea to get him acclimated with stock cars than a nascar mandated decision. He made his stock car debut in an ARCA race then 3 weeks later made his Busch series debut. I think though Juan had to run Dega to get approved for Daytona the following year.
 
All the F1 fans are on social media thinking he did so great because he was in the top 10 for a while due to nothing but strategy. He was 15th to 20th on pace. He didn’t drive into the top 10. If Chastain didn’t Chastain, he may have pulled off a top 15. Maybe.

Much as I expected, MY NASCAR Next Gen Camaro was too tough to handle. As I said earlier Mickey Verstappen and Chucky Leclerc have nothing on my guys Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson. Either of them could be a “world champion” if they felt like it. This Project 91 thing will be great to keep exposing supposed other “top tier” series.
