Knaus benches 48 crew

I heard Jerry Punch says something about one of the crew members of the 48 packed up and left after they were benched.

The over the wall crew wasn't performing up to snuff, they cost Johnson the point lead, Knaus had to do something. So he called in a new crew.

I don't think just the crew lost him the points lead. The 24 crew had good stops and would gain him some spots, only for Jimmie to lose them on the track. How is that the fault of the 48 crew?

Yeah...speedpagen seemed to forget that part:rolleyes:

Honestly I don't see how feelings should play into this. The over the wall crew wasn't performing up to snuff, they cost Johnson the point lead, Knaus had to do something. So he called in a new crew. With now two races to go, Johnson has to salvage his Championship season if he hopes to win #5. At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, what is more important, winning championships and races, or being loyal to a crew that may be an anchor around your neck.

Nascar and it's team are a business, they're in it to win it and make money.

No I'd say Jimmies inability late in the race to stay in front of other cars cost him the points lead, cause those aren't handed out until the race is over.

Some more random info on the swap and how this affects things.....

The entire Hendrick Motorsports team goes to the banquet if they win the title.

All Hendrick bonus money based on results is based on results of all four teams no matter what car you work on.

Chad Knaus says 48 can win title because he has a bad ass team.

More on 48 change, Knaus: "I think maybe the grind got to them a little bit. That’s OK. That’s the way that it is.''

4 those worried about 48 pit crew that got replaced, yes, if 48 wins title, they'll get to take part in championship festivities

The whole thing that bothers me is Chad's "win as a team, lose as a team" quote. Sure, Hendrick operates as a team, but the over the wall guys are part of the 48 team.

What Chad really meant was "win as a team, lose as a team....but if ya lose, you're not gonna be on my team."

I agree, would love to see them screw up the first pit stop under green at Phoenix!

What's the over/under on the number of split screen #24/#48 pit stops this weekend? I think the coverage of the swap will rival Danica Mania. The comparison of these two crews will be highlighted all race long. Who's team do you think will come out ahead on pit stop times? I'm going to go with the new #24 team. Although it'll never happen, I'm rooting for the new #48 crew to fall flat on their collective faces.

I would LOVE to see that. I want to see the new 2 team beat 48 on every put stop, and if they don't win the race, ust want to seethe 24 finish ahead of 48.

I think the 24 team will be on a "special" mission this weekend...KICK the 48s AZZ

The only thing that could be better is if the two teams are pitting next to each other. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

Question If the new 24 team spanks the new 48 crew this week,Do they switch them back next week?????????

I'm guessing that if the #24 team beats the #48 team two stops in a row, Chad calls in the old team. :D OK..... probably not but then again.....

This whole thing bugs me, I hope both teams tank and JJ and his crew chief have to re-examine why they did this. I think they have lost all focus and this will only hurt them the next 2 races.

I think (Hope) Keselowski is going to wreck Hamlin at Homestead, just to return the favor Denny did to him last year there.:D
Then Johnson will win by 24 points over Harvick....
MoMike

Bite your tongue. :D

I'd simply like to see the #48 team fail because I'm not a fan of theirs. I'm rooting for Harvick so I kinda hope this comes back to bite them in the a$$ somehow. Nothing more than that.

If I were a Jimmie Johnson fan, I'd applaud the move.

Now if I were Jeff Gordon fan I'd probably be looking at this differently. I think that I'd be mad that they've now stripped the crew away from the driver that I root for.

You pretty much nailed it! Lots of we Gordon fans were mighty ticked off. Jeff might be out of the running for the championship, but he still wants/needs to win a race. I'd sure love to see happen for Jeff what happened for Clint after they took his crew. It would serve Chad right.

Whataya s'pose it cost Hendrick to buy all new suits & helmets for the two crews?

I had my doubts ,but the 48 pit stops today were perfect. Chad wins again.

Ugggh! I'm so sick of "the Chad." The "old 48 crew" lost spots for Jeff for most of the race. At least Jimmie's car kind of sucked & he didn't run away with it. I was kind of hoping all of them would run out of gas in front of Jeff.. ...... it was one of those kind of days.

The pic says it all. You know, if Jimmie/Chad pull this thing out all we'll be hearing from that camp is how great their teamwork is. Team this & team that. What happened to 'Win as a team, lose as a team'?

and yet, I bet if anyone here was in Chad position, they'd made the same call. Don't try to bull**** and say you wouldn't, especially when the championship is on the line.

I never said that I wouldn't make the call but don't preach teamwork when the deal is done.

Now that is just lame....poor excuse, I think Chad is the only one that would do it.

ummm no just knows how to cheat better than the rest!

Oh please, Nascar has a long history of cheating. Even the best of the best cheated *coughEarnhardtSrcough*. As my dad once said when my brother decided to race 4 cylinder modified at a local dirt track, everyone in motorsports cheats, it only matters if you get caught.

Isn't that what i just said?

Ummm, was it my imagination when Harvick switched crews with Boyer? Oh wait, he totally did. This whole ***** session about Chad switching crew is only brought on because it's Chad and Johnson who did it. If it was Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon, everyone would be saying what a smart move it was on Jr. part to switch crew, but because everyone's hating on Johnson, Chad is scum of the earth for switching crews.

Bowyer and Harvick didn't do it in the middle of a race, big difference!!!

How so? It's not against Nascar rules, they're both on the same Hendrick team. The only difference is when they switched crews. You're just arguing semantics. Like I said, if it was Jr. who did this instead of Johnson, everyone would be praising it, saying what a great move it was on Jr.'s part.
