Knockout Qualifying - DEGA!

I didn't see it but from what I've read in here my question would be, why not just go to a heat race type format?....

I've always been in favor of heat races but the reason heat races work is because if you crash, you're not likely to even be in the main race. There is at MOST 48 to 50 cup cars qualifying and every regular usually makes it to the big race so there would be less drama and they would have to set the field a different way.

Now if we could have like divisions, have 60 cup regulars, 40 make the "Feature" race that could work but then you've got mad sponsors.

I just don't see it happening at the cup level.

Knockout qualifying at Talladega beats 2+ hours of single car runs any day of the week. It'll evolve, like everything else does in this sport, by the time they return in the fall.

I am interested in seeing it when they hit Daytona. Qualifying will be better at that narrower track with pit selection being more important.
