Kurt gets a new CC

what I posted in the Stewart CC thread:

SHR's 2014 Crew Chief Line Up:

UPDATE 2: Stewart-Haas Racing has reorganized its competition department as the championship-winning race team expands to field four cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series beginning in 2014. The changes are as follows:
" Greg Zipadelli has been named vice president of competition where he will manage all four Sprint Cup teams, with each crew chief reporting to him.
" Matt Borland has been named vice president of engineering. In this role, Borland will oversee all of the teams technical initiatives and various research and development projects. He will also transition from being an active crew chief to that of a mentor, specifically in regard to the crew chief position on the #41 Haas Automation team of driver Kurt Busch.
" Daniel Knost has been promoted from race engineer on the #39 team to crew chief for the #41 Haas Automation team with Busch. Knost joined SHR in 2008 when it was Haas-CNC Racing after earning master of science and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). Knost graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 2001.
" Chad Johnston has been named crew chief for the #14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 team of three-time Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart. Johnston comes to SHR from Michael Waltrip Racing where since June 2011 he was the crew chief for the #56 team and driver Martin Truex Jr. Johnston joined MWR in 2010 as a race engineer. Johnston replaces Steve Addington, who has left SHR to pursue other opportunities.
" Rodney Childers will be the crew chief for the #4 Budweiser/Jimmy Johns team of driver Kevin Harvick. Childers joined SHR in late October from MWR, where since 2009 he was a crew chief, first with the #00 team of driver David Reutimann (2009-2011) and later with the #55 team of drivers Brian Vickers, Mark Martin and Waltrip (2012-2013).
" Tony Gibson remains as crew chief for the No. 10 GoDaddy team of Patrick.(SHR)(11-19-2013)

As a SHR fan I am very excited.

I bet Kurt finishes as the highest SHR car in the standings next year.
My money would be on Harvick for that, but SHR is a big mystery as of right now as to how they'll perform in 2014. To be honest, I don't see Kurt doing much more in 2014 than he did this year.

I do. ONnly because of how well he has done two years in a row in lower tier equipment. He's been through the ringer the past few years.. I think giving him a Hendrick engine is going to be very good for him.

I forsee Kurt doing well with the new team, as long as he can handle working for Tony Stewart :D

It's not a knock on Kurt, but his is a team with a brand new crew chief, is pretty much being sponsored by the owner, and is a team that Tony didn't really want in the first place. All that coupled with SHR's less than stellar performance in 2013, I just think they're gonna have a lot working against them.

Exactly . TEAM WORK is a necessity when you are going up against teams like the 48 bunch , just having a really great driver is not enough.

Man, you guys don't have much faith.
I have plenty of faith in Kurt - its his new team I'm not so sure about. I've said this before but I still have yet to be convinced that this move from FRR to SHR is a huge upgrade.

We'll see how he does next year. Hopefully he continues to run well and maybe even wins a race or two. Until we see what that team is capable of, I'll keep my expectations low and my hopes high.

I think Kurt makes the Chase again. He finally has a relatively good head on his shoulders and as long as he maintains that he should be fine.

They kind of are dude. Come on, I've been an RCR fan my whole life. They've been awful the past five years.

How so? I haven't been paying close attention to them, but from what I remember they seem to never blow up.
Maybe I just haven't noticed it, but have they really had many engine failures in the last few years?

lets not forget he had hendrick motors in the 51 car. with haas funding the car out of his pocket I bet we still see a hodge podge of sponsors on the car. Haas can discount sponsorship on the car. I suppose that could interfer with the rest of SHR's cars. looking at the who KB to SHR there appears to be alot that could go wrong from driver to owner relationship to even internally in the company.

Kurt's a great driver but I don't expect much success from a new team and a new crew chief. SHR seems to be spread pretty thin right now.

Huh? Paul Menard blew up during the Pepsi 400 this year while running 3rd.

I'd say of all the top teams RCR probably has the worst engines.. they are one of the only ones that work alone. Theyre not bad by any means... but collaboration brings progress.

McMurray and Montoya sure did better this year switching from ECR to HMS power.

Im confident enough he will finish the highest in SHR that Im thinking of making that my bold prediction for 2014...

But what do I know right? I'm a Logano fan

*insert Joey ramble here*

Seriously, Danica is the only one that hasn't perfected the art of sly sarcasm. Tony is the teacher of it, Harvick is learning, and Kurt doesn't care who it offends and slings it around without a care.
Yeah.. and with Tony being the teacher.. Kurt wont get fired for it this time.. should be fun to watch.
