Anyone remember what happened in the chase last year? He can fall on his face as easily as he can succeed.
"Driver wins before age 25: Only 59 of 2,220 Sprint Cup races for which the winner's age is known have been won by drivers under 25:
1. Jeff Gordon, 15
1. Kyle Busch, 15 [still under 25 until May 2, 2010]
3. Kurt Busch, 7
(tie) Richard Petty, 7
5. Junior Johnson, 5
Tied with one each: Bob Burdick. Bobby Hillin Jr.; Parnelli Jones; John Kieper; Terry Labonte, Ryan Newman, Bill Rexford; Fireball Roberts; Donald Thomas; Brian Vickers. "
OK, this is what bugs me about all the Kyle hoopala. They ARE counting all of his wins in ALL series, not just Cup.
Kyle started his first full-time season in the Cup series when he was 19. Gordon was 21 when he started his first season. So those 15 wins came in 2 fewer seasons for Gordon.
Every driver gets compared to Gordon and the possibility of unseating him in success. First it was Jeff Burton. He had a nice run from 97-00 and he has 21 wins. Biffle is yet to reach 20 wins. Harvick and Kahne haven't reached 15 wins. Tony has 33 wins. His win percentage is nearly 6 points lower than Jeff. Edwards and Kyle's win percentage are both below 10%. Jeff's is 14.77% and Jimmie's is 15.5% (41 wins). Kyle must win 28 times in the next 105 races to match Jimmie. When Kyle goes out and wins 40 races in Cup in 4 years, let's chat. Only 11 drivers have won more than 50.
(Ok, I borrowed someone else's statistics, so don't throw beer cans if some aren't right. I suck at math. ) I just think they're going over-board with comparing Kyle's wins in 3 series to Jeff's and especially to Richard's. Their wins are in CUP. PERIOD. Kyle definitely has talent. I don't disagree, but let's see how he compares with longevity and oh yeah, how about championships.
The above stats were Cup wins.
Wait and see. Kyle is set to beat everyone else's stats. That is what everyone is talking about.
Have the others got 50 wins in all 3 series in such a short time?
Nope, that's why everyone is talking about it, because no one has done it.
This is a relatively new thing. Only recently have Cup drivers started to run the whole season in Nationwide so there's nothing to compare this to. Not many, if any, CUP drivers will run as many Camping World races either. While he's setting a mark, there's still nothing to compare it to until someone else does the same sort of thing.
Exactly! There was no truck series until 1995 which was the Super Truck series and renamed Craftsman Truck series in 1996. That leaves A LOT of drivers out of the running for wins there.
Just another little CUP series stat:
It took Gordon 186 starts to win 40 races. Kyle has 15 wins and 160 starts. If he can win 25 of the next 26 he ties Jeff. It took Jimmie 232. So it's great Kyle can run all these series, but let's not compare him to other cup drivers except for his cup wins.
So divide his wins out. Where does his wins in Truck stack up against others in Truck? Nationwide? Cup? Looking at the numbers in each division its hard to argue his success.
Nobody could deny this guys talent. I did look quick at a Cup comparison between Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon. Kyle has 15 wins in 160 Cup races while Jeff has 82 in 555. Kyle's winning percentage is 9.3%, lifetime cup -vs- Jeff Gordon's 14.7%. Kyle's average finish is 16.4 while Jeff's is 12.3
Fortunately for Kyle, he should have many years left to improve.
Well, he again proved last night what a arrogant, self centered punk he is.
He loves taking the bows when he wins though,,,,,,,,
Two different things. When Jeff was winning, there were 5 or 6 guys who could win any given race any week. You could usually bet on Mark, Dale Sr, DJ, Terry or Jeff to win the race and never fail.
Here and now, there are 15-20 different drivers who could win any given race week in and week out. There is much more competition now than in the 1990s (as good as the racing was in the 90s).
Really. There are still just a few drivers who can win each week. 17, 99, 14, 24, 48, 18, 16. Anyone could win but I don't think 15+ have a real shot at winning Bristol.
