Kyle Busch to retire from Xfinity Series after reaching win 100

"After Busch won the Overton’s 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, his series-record 89th-career Xfinity Series victory, Busch told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio he would step away from competition after he wins his 100th race."
“Hopefully, next week is 90 and we can continue this on — and retirement is fast approaching,” Busch said. “So, I’m looking forward to that. When I get to 100 Xfinity Series wins, I’m done with Xfinity. So, my retirement with Xfinity is fast approaching.”

In six starts this season, Busch has won three races from the pole. His winning percentage in the Xfinity Series is 26.65. On the truck tour, Busch has 48 wins in 137 starts for a 35.04 winning percentage.

Focusing on Cup
At 32, Busch hopes to concentrate on his day job — winning in the Monster Energy Cup Series — and shepherding aspiring racers through Kyle Busch Motorsports.

“I keep having all these drivers in the feeder program from Kyle Busch Motorsports to the JGR Xfinity team up to the Cup team,” Busch said. “I had Daniel Suarez, he’s done it. Erik Jones is coming over, so he’s done it.

“Now, it’s Denny and I are the next two to go. We’re the oldest ones. So we better be careful and mindful and looking over our backs. I better slow the progression down of some of these guys at KBM and stop helping them as much to get them through.”

Busch has four additional races to run this season. He’s not sure what limits NASCAR might set for Cup drivers in the feeder series in 2018. But as of now, the only way he’ll reconsider is if Joe Gibbs asks him to come out of retirement to assess where the program is. Other than that, he’s done.

Okay then, this was a bit unexpected.

I'll say this, I appreciate what Kyle has done with KBM and using it as a breeding ground for the Cup Series. Saurez, Jones, Bell, Gilliland, and Benjamin all are turning out to be pretty damn good drivers. We talk **** about Kyle, but he takes racing seriously, its his livelihood and I respect the hell out of him for it.

No kidding. This series is a feeder series.

Serious drivers won't stay there for more than 2 years.

Other cup drivers race in the series ...........there are many incentives for them to do so
owners championship
manufacturers championship
r and d
weekly tire test for the cup series
sponsor satisfaction
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
ticket sales

etc. etc.

the only benefit from Kyle's lack of participation in the series will be a reduction in the 24-7 whine from a few fans :idunno:

Are you insinuating that he is going to close up KBM? I didn't get that impression from his statements.
 
Well, if that is case, then I say NASCAR should make an exemption and let him race all the X races for the rest of the year so he can retire in time for the 2018 season.

Thar's providing we still have a Cup level series in 10 years! The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't.
 
Remind me, how many X races per season is a Cup driver allowed to enter? We're still looking at Kyle in X until well into 2018, right?

I have no idea what he is going to do, but what about what Kyle has been saying about watching his back? I wonder if ol Joe is happy about that. Does he call up Kyle and give him the same spiel he gave Kenseth "we just love ya, your going to be with us for a long time, were family". Or does Kyle get "listen here Kyle, you say another word about this and I can make it real difficult for you". I would say Kyle is doing the insinuating "watch my back"

About his retiring after 100 races? I don't believe it for a minute. He will retire he says BUT will come back and race IF Gibbs needs his input. Gibbs has about a 25%, 30% of taking all the purse money if Kyle races in the lower series, no telling what the figure is if it is a top 5.

The Cup series will still exist in a decade. It will more closely resemble the late '80s than the early '00s. This will include a few less tracks and a few less races. We'll see a return to the spending levels of that period. This may (or may not) -possibly- permit an increase in the number of teams and / or sponsors able to afford full-season support.

There will still be coverage of almost all on-track activity, either by sports networks starved for content or by on-line (subscription) channels.

There will only be one remaining of the two series aimed at development / extra practice for Cup drivers / enhanced revenue for the tracks.

And if I'm completely wrong and NASCAR folds next week and SMI and ISC turn all their properties in to flea markets and drive-ins, there are still other forms of motorsports, other things to do on the weekend. The Internet will still have cat videos and nekkid selfies.
 
predicting the future is hog wash, nobody knows what will happen tomorrow some of the more foolish just think they can. No offense but posts should say "for entertainment only":D

For someone that believes predicting the future is hogwash you sure don't mind assuming the motives of drivers, teams and manufacturers. Sounds like the pot is meeting the kettle no?
 
Been reading of the demise of NASCAR for a long, long time now. One of these days the naysayer's predictions will come true and they will reign down with I told you so's to an audience that no longer exists.

Kyle Busch may finally be seeing the light. Understanding that outside his own ego, the only people that can appreciate his XFINITY dominance are his diehard fans. Long live the King of the Minors.

Wow, go on vacation for a week and the whole sport goes to hell.

If it goes PPV, who's going to watch, people won't care about it, hell now less and less people care every week. I used to watch every race every week, I've watched 1 race this year, the 600. Nascar, unless they chage the quality of the product, won't be able to attract sponsors and without them...no Cup.

I guess a person can wish for the worst, that is their choice, it is pay TV now and two of the newest gate keepers with sports channels in many weeks the highest viewership of the weekend and many times the whole week is Nascar racing. As dismal as some that seem to thrive on that sort of thing, those are the facts. The future, make it as dismal or a bright as possible..depends on who it is.

Kyle and his back watching stuff....Man, that was all Kyle just screwing around. He doesn't believe that, and I bet that Coach didn't bat an eyelash at it. It was more of a comment referring to the success KBM has had in developing talent. No question, Kyle knows how secure he is at JGR. As for Coach's comment about Matt....What would you like him to do.....Go to Pockrass, and say, "His ass is gone in a year,"? I think that the culture is pretty strong at JGR.
 
I've never had any use for Gibbs, I didn't buy his fake insincerity back then and he has continued to prove me right. He has evolved to be a two face backstabber in addition to that. got no problems with Barney's Yotas, he's a straight shooter

I think a NASCAR reporter said it best, "Kyle is a bad sore loser."

Yet, its not to discredit him he just hates losing. No matter what division or what you drive, I bet if we raced lawnmowers and he lost, he'd be salty as most. He's a professional racer, its pretty much natural IMHO.

To be honest, Kyle needs to get pissed off if he wants to get back to winning. He's at his best when pissed off.

Hmm..Gee I couldn't tell by looking at the empty seats! Look i'd love to see the glory days of the late 90s and early 2000s come back, but I'm not going to look at through rose colored glasses. The reality is sponsors are leaving, who is going to pay?
