Labonte out, Allmendinger in at JTG Daugherty?

No, but a 4th team is possible, as RFR is only fielding 3 cars now. Roush shouldn't wait too long to move Bayne up, it'd be a little weird if he were the 2011 Daytona 500 winner and the 2017 Rookie of the Year ;)

Lack of sponsorship has been a problem for RFR ,starting a fourth team without sponsorship would be disasterous .

Being a big BL fan, I think he has waited way too late to make a go of it. That being said, though, he still is in the top ten most popular driver vote and has been for the past decade. I would hope that one of the biggies would recognize it and give him proper equipment and see what he can do. Sponsorship should be easy given his popularity. Running a single car team without manufacturer involvement is why the 47 is where it's at. Too low on the food chain. Maybe Bobby could buy Finch out and make himself a competitive ride (okay I'm dreaming)

Bobby 20th
AJ 32nd

So far the driver is out performing the car.

The 47 team is a 30-35 place team, the 51 is about a 15-25 place team, with some luck could possibly win a race. I really think these results tell us that the driver is not the issue in the 47.. AJ may not be great but he doesn't drive like Bobby, if there was more out of it speed wise, AJ would have gotten it.

I am going to wait until the race is over. It shows that Bobby has a faster car in qualifying. I think A.J. will try to carry the car, just like Kurt Bush did. I don't think A.J. can do the job Kurt did with a slower car, but I think he will finish better than when Bobby was driving the car. It is a Toyota expect an explosion.:idunno:

Exactly. I think the move that the 47 made was about the driver all along. It had nothing to do to see where their program was. My reasoning? You don't replace one of the morst experienced drivers in cup with a driver who has been part time for the last year and half to see if there is something different he can find. I don't buy it. My guess is they were hoping the issue was with Bobby, and they AJ would exploit it. Once he did they would make the move, while sitll throwing Bobby a race or two until the end of the year. Now I hope they do make a move, and not for JTG's sake, but for Bobby's.

yeah, that is why you hire an old veteran instead of a snot nosed kid. Weather they re hire Bobby or not, Bobby is not the problem. I think A.J. might drive the heck out of the 47, either blow it up or wreck it trying to make something out of nothing, he might even place a little higher, but in the long run, he will screw up more than he will win. Bobby doesn't push a car like A.J. will.

Final Practice Speeds so far:
Bobby 26th
AJ 36th

I think it is safe to say the issue is not with the driver, but the car. We all knew that the 51 was better equipment. AJ was running between 15th and 25th in it. So by putting Bobby in the 51 and AJ in the 47, and both cars are still getting the same results speed wise thinks that proves the 47 has lots of work to do.

I have no clue how you can come to this conclusion when in 2 practices and qualifying the 47 has been its usual awful self. The car is slower than half the field as usual, it qualified in the bottom third as usual and they are slower than Bobby in the 51. The only difference is that AJ will carry the car right into the wall. Bobby was making chicken salad out of chicken ****. Don't get me wrong, I think his best days have passed him by and you can see it in his restarts and driving style, but he is still a solid option with good equipment

I believe I pretty much have the same conclusion that you do? whats the problem

You say that AJ will finish better in the car than Bobby would, but from what we have seen all season and so far at Michigan it's beyond a tall order for that to happen. The cars performance has to changed since Daytona. AJ hasn't found more speed in the car, he didn't qualify any better, his times are consistent with what they were when Bobby ran the car. You premise if I am right is that because AJ is more of an aggressive driver he will finish better? Seems flawed to me......it's more likely that AJ doesn't take care of the car and burns off the tires or fails to bring the car back in one piece as opposed to him finishing better. We have absolutely no reason to think AJ is likely to have a better finish. His history and that teams history tells a complete opposite story.

that is what I said right here. Nobody said you had to believe it..notice I said "I think" quite a bit. why don't you say the same..."you think" I could be wrong, it is just my opinion, if you think it is "flawed" so be it. Labonte's average finish is 26th. I think A.J. will finish higher..or blow up..after all it is a Toyota on a tough track on engines.. that is what I THINK. :)

A.J. did finish better in the 47 than Bobby did

oh helloooooo, there ol Clarkster, hope you learned something about jumping down somebodies throat for their opinion. that is part of getting older and wiser hopefully. A.J. did finish higher then Labonte's average finish in the 47. Top 20 at 19th. Much better to have your own opinion instead of a personal attack..Know you are new, but we already have our share of trollrats, chalk it up to a learning experience, don't do what they do, or you will get what they get. No respect.

How did I jump down your throat? For starters that would indicate you understand my tone which is impossible by reading what someone types. Do I think you are out of your mind in thinking that AJ is better in the 47 than Bobby? Absolutely. I still believe that. AJ had a good run when all is said and done. He started out terrible, but they made something out of it. Who knows what Bobby does if that car doesn't snap around and get trashed, but that's a hypothetical. How was it a personal attack? How is me having my opinion any different than you having yours? The hypocrisy meter is again at an all time high. If you believe in your opinion people can disagree with it and it won't matter. I never attacked you, so why did you take it so personal?

I can eat humble pie. It doesn't matter to me.

Do me a favor. Save the the condescending "wiser with age b.s." for someone else, its a bad look. Do you know my age? Does it matter? Don't act like you know anything about me guy. I also don't care if some faceless handle has any level of respect for my opinions. You know why? I'm secure in what I say and in my opinions. I tip my hat to you on calling that AJ would have a good finish, but I stand by my sentiments that Labonte is a better option. I love how some of you guys hold onto this convoluted idea that it matters to someone if people that they don't know "respect" them. Give me a break. We are all talking heads on here.

Go stand on a box. (that was a half hearted attack)

Roush would already be fielding a fourth team if he could find the funding for it. #6 was his flagship from Day One.

Winning the Daytona 500 has overrated since the CBS marketing department invented the phrase, "The Super Bowl of Racing", and especially since the restrictor plate was introduced. Look at the list of drivers with only one win and see how many of them got it a plate track.

I don't think we can compare AJ and Bobby or their cars based on Michigan. One might worry about Bobby's skills except that other, more recent champions also spun out in turn 2.

I agree with you about AJ and Labonte. I actually like AJ. He is somewhat unorthodox, but I think people are overstating the drug suspension. ! race doesnt tell a story, but either way I believe that Labonte will be out at JTG. They have to make major changes there and it will start with the driver.

If spinning out determines a drivers status, they all suck.

Can Bobby still drive a racecar? I think so. Can he do it on a championship level, no. Given the right equipment and a good team he still has a win or two in him.

A.J. hasn't proved to be a valuable asset to a team yet. I'd like to see him get another shot, but JTG isn't a very good choice. He may be better off in IRL if that's the best he can do.
