Larson next? Target leaving IndyCar after 27 seasons with Chip Ganassi.

Chip will be ok thanks to the Charter yada yada. The self declared wealth it created will save the day.

If Richard has anymore grandkids he may need to buy a charter from Chip and Penske will eventually need another 1-2. IMO the charters will never be worth more than chump change to the major players and each year that goes by they will be worth less.

DeWalt is picking up a lot of those races.

I skimmed the article but I didn't see a specific number of races that DeWalt would be interested in. Kenseth will have a sponsor for each race but I wonder how many of those sponsors will be poached from other teams?

Ganassi will be fine. He's good at this stuff.

Target made a disastrous foray into the Canadian retail market. Opened 133 + stores ... all gone.

They apparently lost $5.2 billion. With a B. Not surprising that they're "going through what that evolution of our sports marketing will be" in the future."
Thats a lot of money to lose , I dont follow Target's business dealings very close, was a reason stated as to why it didnt work out?

I do recall reading about it, but I have no cares to give to Target, so refresh my memory please.

I think its very safe to say that 2017 will be Target's last year in NASCAR, but who knows, maybe they will stay on in some fashion.

Target has been a good racing sponsor for decades and they have reaped wonderful marketing and brand returns from Ganassi and other pro racing teams. Hopefully down the road they will find that IndyCar does in fact offer them good marketing value

junior will buy Ganassi which will be full circle as for as getting DEI

I doubt he fully sells, but maybe a return to Earnhardt Ganassi? Lol, but EGM instead or EGR

Larson signs extension to drive the 42 Nationwide/Tax Slayer car, and Truex Jr returns to the bass pro/Cessna/McDonald's #1 car.

EGM buys chassis and engines from Hendrick.

HMS returns to 3 cars for now.

Yeah, hard to criticize a company that's stuck with a sponsorship longer than many drivers have been alive. Geez, was the Simpsons even on the air when this partnership started?

I can't speak for others but when I see companies like Proctor and Gamble, Kellogg's, The Home Depot, Go Daddy, Anheiser-Busch, Coors-Molsons, and other multi-nationals leave or severely curtail involvement in Nascar I see it as just a business decision. IDK how a company quantifies bang for the buck with involvement in Nascar but if they feel resources are better allocated elsewhere I completely understand.

writing is on the wall (not on the quarter panel anymore) ;)

Target's contract isn't up yet. Care to bet they'll sign up again?

I wish I could get a bookie to take a bet on whether Target will be back in the same capacity with Nascar in 2018. If I remember correctly Target originally sponsored the car Casey Mears drove but when Reed Sorenson was coming up Target told Ganassi it wanted him and I believe Mears went to the Texaco car. I think after Sorenson washed out the Tarjay driver was JPM and occasionally the car was sponsored by Wrigley. I had turned into more of a casual fan by that point so I may have some things wrong. Regardless Target was the primary sponsor for Kyle Larson last year for 28 races so Chip and company will have some work ahead of them.

Simpsons just wrapped up season 27 in May and had been shorts for a couple years before that, so yes

Ay caramba! I think Lucien Bouchard was still friends with Brian Mulroney back then......or maybe he had turned Bloc head by that point.

Jimmy Spencer drove that car first

I still remember that photo of Mr. E swapping cars with one of Chip's Indy drivers for a exhibition. Jimmy's fat butt jammed into an open wheeler, cigar stuck in his mouth. They probably had to grease that ****pit to get him in. :D

I forgot about that and didn't he DNQ for the Daytona 500 and maybe another race?

Sounds right the only thing I really remember about it though is one time he was doing an interview and he's almost said yeah that "Kmart Ford" but he caught himself and he said that Target Dodge.... because he had driven for Carter in the Kmart Ford for the couple years prior to that

He and DW ran similar K-Mart Fords at the same time if memory serves.
