Las Vegas Pre-race Race Thread

Fender? are u reading this?

Yes. There's no doubt nascar COULD transport the air titan to every track, but it will be real expensive. Here's a question. The circus uses trains, so why not nascar? Any railroad will build and schedule a train to suit your needs, and there are a ton of qualified short run drivers to hire for a weeked and pick up the trucks from the nearest train yard.

Hell, nascar could even offer space for sale to smaller teams and have their haulers brought to and from the track for a fee.

Friction between the brake pads and rotor provides braking and that friction generates heat. The rotor dissipates that heat. How would a smaller rotor generate less heat?

I think he means that the rotor heat wouldn't be so close to the rim. I noticed MWR had something that looked like a heavy rotor heat shield mounted to the right front of Truex' car at Phoenix. I've never seen anything that heavy duty covering the rotor before.

Brian contracted some guy to build a shrinking beam. I think this is him.
Then he can just put it in his pocket.

Beat me to it. The circus has their own cars and just hires the locomotive(s) as needed. Nascar could do the same and then fly in their highly specialized  drivers.

NASCAR wouldn't need their own cars, so it makes even more sense for them to use trains. The railroads have these

Less surface area for starters. If the rotor was smaller the pads would have to be smaller too, no? Less friction equals less heat. Not that the rotor would be cooler to the touch but there would be less radiated heat using smaller components. Plus, and probably most importantly, there would be more space between the rotor and the steel wheel if the rotor had a smaller diameter, therefore, more space for cooler air to travel over the components, resulting in less transfer of heat to the wheel and the tire's bead.

I dunno, Smoke. I'm just throwing crap out there... ;)

Smaller rotors and pads means the car won't stop as good.Which means they will be on the brakes more.More time on the brakes means more heat.

Seems like there's been a lot of posts on NASCAR's Air Titan system. I saw this a little while ago.

So they're trying to make improvements to it. Doesn't sound like a bad thing. As far as them transporting this from track to track..... If you've ever been to a NASCAR race you'd realize that each weekend an extraordinary amount of equipment is brought to the track by NASCAR, the media, vendors, etc. It is a traveling circus. The amount of equipment that they used @ Daytona, if that's a true representation of the final setup, would easily be transported to each venue.
At least now we know the Titan CAN BE TRANSPORTED.

Don't be surprised if we have some engine failures this weekend. RPMs are very high and don't fall that much in the corner. Very hard on the engines.

I wasn't going to say who, but yeah this not a track you want to go to with valve train issues.

While watching Trackside this morning, a canned segment about drivers' gambling preferences was aired. In that piece Jimmie Johnson said that he loves a Hot Craps Table.

Afterward, Kyle Petty asked, "Did Jimmie just say, "hot craps"?

To which Ruttledge Wood replied, "I've had those before!".

HA! You GO, Rut!!!

He lets you call him Rut?:(

My heart says Smoke, but my head says Ford. As long as it isn't Biffle.

Saw that and couldn't stop laughing. I can jsut picture them in a couple of years, Him saying "would you shut the F--k up".

It sucks because he seems pretty smart too. He was in the ESPN booth yesterday for a large part of the first half of the Nationwide race and did pretty well as an analyst. I cringe every time Danica speaks.

Dear lord, that Lowes guy needed the company of those two ladies!

What does smart and women have in common?:)

After Tony retires for good I hope he goes into the TV booth. It would be nice having someone who doesn't pull the company line even when Nascar is wrong.

I would guess Tony is going to be involved in racing for a long time. He had a show on sirius radio and it was good. I wouldn't be surprised if after he retired, he would not only be involved in dirt and Nascar, but maybe Indycar also
