Let's talk about that choke job

Take him slapping the wall, the long pitstop following it, and the jackman dropping the car out of the equation, and Logano still doesn't win the championship.

They were a sold 3'rd among the four champ contenders all day.

The 22 simply had nothing for them at Homestead.

Was that due to "bad karma"?

Kid had a great season and he is still young.
Should be a lot of future titles in store.
I like the kid.
Stewart tagged him as a rich kid at Cali 2013. But he always has seemed down to earth to me and has proved that a lot of his former critics were wrong.

Honestly I thought Logano had a good run this season and he shouldn't be ashamed of his 2014 run. I'm sure the over the wall crew are just kicking themselves today and I'm sure Mr. Penske will have a few words for them as well.

Ah well, we have a long off-season ahead of us, they'll regroup and come back strong for 2015.

It happens. There's always next year... or any of the 20-25 after that. Im still happy with his season... he did better than I thought he would for sure.

Yeah , what really matters is that he had a good regular season (points) not how he did in the crapshoot right .?:)

Really though.. the only choke job was the jack thing... right before that all the contenders were running nose to tail. A few bad stops but they could overcome those... not the last one.

This thread was all about the crew, and not about Joey on my part. The crew choked more than once and were not on their game like we were use to.

Logano's crew looked stumped once the car fell. but from where he was last season to where he is now, has to be the biggest turnaround in Nascar. he'll get his in time.

A bad pit stop can happen to any team. I felt bad for the 22 team because they had one of the best seasons this year. But it just goes to show what can happen in any race.

Yep, just like a relief pitcher giving up a walk-off home run or a muffed punt recovered my the kicking team in the end zone. That's for the stick and ball comparisons only.

That was not a big deal... he was running 5th after that... then fell back twice on pit stops... came back to 4th or 5th running right with the other 3 then the jack fell.
I'm talking about lapses in concentration, purely speculation, but at any rate, what I am trying to say is that crew members are also thinking about that damage, did they get it pulled out?, is there a tire rub, etc, and that little bit of distraction, lack of concentration could have caused that accident. You have a chain saw in your hand, you know what I am talking about and what happens if you are distracted... a lot worse than a bad finish.

I get that... but the team still choked.. theyre supposed to be able to over come that stuff... thats the point.. Joey did the driving back to the front. More than once.. but they choked on the last stop.

Joey more than proved himself this year and will be a contender to win the title many more times in the future.
Simply put yesterday the wheels just fell off which can and has happened to every team in the sport at one time or another.

If you watch the replay, the jack man only caught the jack stub with the tip of the jacking plate, maybe 1/2" if that much. The next stop, he almost shoved it in too far, I couldn't see any of the jacking plate. 100% human error on the jackman.

Only problem there were the 2 to 3 champ contenders in front of jolo when he got back up to 5th.

No way did the 22 have anything for Harvick last night, but yea the jackman choking is what took him out of contention. lol

Yeah but you never know right? Thats what I really dont like.. I would rather him have lost it in 5th than to be out of contention completely. It is what it is though.. I'm not too worried about it.

Hopefully this is a lesson to all of us that the champion being crowned by a single race is a total crapshoot . It can be won or lost by a jackman , a gascan, a loose lugnut or a fan throwing debris onto the racetrack . It's great stuff for TMZ but it has no basis in racing.

does to me, too many people think it is all about the twinkle toe driver who gets all the glory for a win. They slap the wall, the crew has to work like crazy to fix it, their job is every bit as technical and important as the drivers and they do it for pennies. This format puts even more emphasis on the total team. The stats on pit stop times and positions coming out of the pits means more now than ever. Logano's team made two big mistakes that race. Can't do that and expect to win

See even now I disagree with this... I still like the chase. Joey's team just didn't execute, plain and simple. It's a tough blow to lose like that but it's better to have been in that position in the first place.

Exactly. It's a team sport.

I am a Harvick fan, and I can't sit here for a strait face and tell you that this would have been 100%. You just never know what kind of adjustments the crew may have changed, or how much more Joey would have been up on the wheel. You just never know what could have happened. We only know what did happen, and the jack falling took him 100% out of contention.

Couldn't have said it better. The whole race I was worried about pit stops or making the wrong adjustments. I knew Kevin would do his part, but would the team? That is what makes this championship format so much better.
