Why don't we start talking about every driver...and have some duscussions, so no one gets left out, I will type the new driver to talk about in bold every time that It gets quiet with that certain driver. The first driver to chat about is...

Johnny Benson

How has he done this year? Is he improving? Should he just retire? Does he need to go somewhere else? Will he win a race or more this year? ( PB, I know your answers to all of these!! )

Johnny is alright. He seems like a pretty nice guy. He's kinda goofy looking, but so am I. He is not nearly as goofy looking as Kurt Busch or Bill Elliot either. :p He seems to have some really bad luck, but I can certainly see him winning again sometime.

I bet you do,something like this?

Johnny was off to a good start soemthig like 7 top 20is in a row and he was up to 6th in points, then a string of bad luck came apon the team.
He should improve some in the coming weeks hopefully. WHo would have thoguht he would lead 7 laps at Sonoma, Not ME! Too bad he did not have an extra gallon of gas or he would have came home with a top 20 again, but can't blame Johnny and James for tryign to steal a race from someone! Should he retire!!! H#LL NO!!! He has 10 years in him easy, he is just about to turn 40 on Friday, got plenty of time to win more races and possibly a championship.
SHould he go somewhere eles, I would say yes if it was to a top team, but last time I got that wish when he went to ROuch in the 26 car he was treated horribly so I like him in the small team. If he would ever go anywhere James should go with him, they work so well together! I think MBV is the perfect team for Johnny, I just wish Valovoline would poor a little bit more money into the team that way they could possibly start to build there own motors, or get better people in the shops to build the cars. I think everyoen at the 10 team is locke din at least untill the end of 2004 but everyone will stay in 05 and beyond.

Will he win this year? Honsetly I don't know, I would have thoguth so before Daytona but with half the seaosn over I am not sure. He has had good runs ( Atlanta for one) but he kept getting bit with the bad luck moneky. He will get that monkey off his back sometime and win races 2-3-4......10-11-12.... I just don't know when!

Welcome to the Message Board!!! We are still talking about Johnny Benson...it will go in alphabetical order...

I think that Johnny is a very nice and talented NASCAR driver...I even believe that he is capable of winning a championship...however It is definetely not with this race team...now I do believe that he will win with this team again. I think he might run pretty well in a Ford or Dodge as well. The Valvoline car has done well in the past, and there is no reason for it not to do well now.

I always will be a JB Jr fan since we go back to his pre racing days at Berlin and I was a big fan of his daddy's. I disagree with PB about he and James working well together. Lately I have seen some of the worst examples of co-operation that there is for any team this season. Consistantly Johhny is losing positions after each pit, and they keep blaming that on the "new car". Every team has had to deal with the "new car" (aero equal templates and uniform body location) and Johnny's seems to be dealing with it worse than others. They had a good run a couple of weeks back and Johnny's post race comments went something like this. "they were getting me out of the pits in good position and making the right changes to give me a chance to work thru traffic, when they do that I can take care of business on the track". See Johnny knows what the problem is and made it clear for all the viewers. I just wish he could get James Ince to understand. The short pitting crap that James has been stuck on for the past couple years is another example of his shortcomings. If something does NOT work consistantly most people stop doing it, not Ince...he'll be short pitting even when he gets pushed back into the late model ranks and hopefully that will be soon.

Valvoline seems to be satisfied with an "average" performance, probably because it costs them much less than it would to run above average. I'd like to see Johnny run for a team that has an owner and sponsor that has higher expectations.

I think Johnny is very talanted, but I think he will be an avgerage driver. I don't think he can win a championship, close is very possible.

I don't think Johnny is that outstanding of a driver, just average. But all reports I have heard/read he seems to be a real good guy. Yeah and maybe just a little goofy looking. :)

I am a little bit late here but.....I think that Johnny Benson looks just a little like Gomer Pyle. :)

Johnny Benson is a driver who will give you a solid top 15 run every week and every once in a while will sneak in a top 10 or top 5. And he wont beat the equipment up every week.

He is not one of my favoreites but he was a very good BGN racer. He deserved at Cup ride and got it. They have had a few good races and most of the races is a top 20 finisher. SO he is not doing all that bad! Not as good as some thoguhthe might do.

I don't see him winning a race this year, but next season, I think he may win 1 or 2 races. I don't know yet If he may someday be championship material. I agree that he needed a Cup ride, I mean when you have dominated every other series, Its time to go to the Cup Series. He does probably have the best race team to support him, which is good.

Uglier that Kurt Busch... I thought he'd do better than he is, but the team is new to Cup racing. Maybe with time they can be contenders.

I actually found Myself cheering Johnny Benson on to His win last year,I was just so glad for Him,especially after coming so close to win just(not sure)a week or 2 before that, lost to Kurt Busch in that race, just seemed to make the victory that much sweeter IMO!

He's turning in some solid even runs this year, just don't see a win for Him this year either,JMO!He does seem to be one of the least controversial drivers around the curcuit though,JMO! :D

Johhny B:I like him.Solid and dependable.A nice guy and a good driver.I look for him to win again soon.

Greg Biffle:The next real deal.I read recently on Roushracing.com that Greg was the least prepared for driver that Jack has 'brought up' to WC level. No shop or cars were ready,no preparations were made.Greg was thrown into the circuit without much to fall back on.WHY that was the case is a mystery to me.Jack certainly planned for Greg's arrival but apparently the shop and facilities were not in place until January.Giving Greg very little settling in time before Daytona.Trust me on this one:Greg Biffle can outdrive 90% of the drivers that have ever sit in a stock car.Once the new wears off and the chips are all in place Greg should be almost an unstoppable force.Matt Kenseth----one of my favorites,btw----said that Greg and Kurt were both extremely naturally gifted drivers, much better than he(Matt) is.I am shocked it has taken Greg half a season to get acclimated but he is right on the verge of breaking loose.A couple of wins THIS season would not surprise me.

John Benson...great guy, but never has been in top notch equipment except with Roush.

Biffle, could tell he would be an excellent driver since the truck series. Never saw that with Harvick by his CTS performance (when he was full time there). I was amazed Jack gave Kurt the cup ride & not Biff, even though Biff had already committed to the Busch series.

I thought at the beginning of the year that Blaney would win one, now the team has fallen back down...but I still believe that Dave will win this year. They have what It takes to win, but I doubt he will ever win a championship. The 77 team, just hasn't reached that caliber. Blaney should probably be in the Cup series many years ahead of now. I just wished that he ran this good when he was with BDR.

Blaney- He has surprised me from day one at Bill Davis in the BGN car. When he moved up they had a good shot a winning a few race but bc of things not of there control they lost them. I think he and Jasper Motorsports works well together. Last year with Ryan they ran good but that very well could have been because Ryan has been a CC for years in WC. Bootie this is his first year in Cup so he has alot to learn, he does nto have a huge notebook like some CC's do. I think that in time the 77 team will once again be a soild top 15 team! Might happen this year or early next!

Greg Biffle
I hate to say it but I think once he gets his cars and shop up to par with the rest of Roush, he will be as scary driving as he is looking.

Brett Bodine
Todd Bodine

I will cluster them together, there Isn't much to talk about them...

Brett I will always like because he has more knowledge of racing than 2/3rd's of his competition. Of the three Bodines Brett fits the owner/driver character the best. I listened to his scanner chatter at a Darlington race one year and was amazed at how quickly and efficiently he could switch from driver mindset to mechanic/engineer mindset and how much it helped him to get through that race. I think his shortcoming is with his marketing skills not his driving. If he could sell his team better to primary and associate sponsors and get enough money to make his efforts really work he would be a force to be reckoned with.

Todd and Geoff I think ought to be twins, their driving styles are similar and they both are "for the moment" drivers. They let what is happening on the track at any given time dictate their race, they are not forward thinking. Both have plenty of driving skill and desire to race but their reputation will keep them from ever getting that "big break" and high dollar sponsors will avoid them. I see Todd as getting close to a win or two this year but not breaking through and unfortunately I think he will be ride shopping again for next year. It's too bad his talent is overshadowed by his driving style.

I guess that I like more drivers than I dislike. Favorites include Rusty, Tony, Jeffy, Bobby, and Elliott.

I really admire Brett Bodine for being one of the last driver owners in Winston Cup. Unfortunantly like DJfan said he doesn't have enough money.

Todd Bodine has made a career out of being one of the best drivers to drive junk equipment. The reason he gets involved in so many wrecks in my opinion is he isn't content to ride around at the back and collect a paycheck, like many of the other back of the back teams seem to be doing. As he showed when he got in the #25 at Texas in 1997 and was on his way to victory until he got crashed out late, if you give Todd a car he could run with anybody in Winston Cup. Unfortutunantly his asset of being one of the only drivers to give 110 percent each and every time out is also one of his liabilities because of all the wrecked cars. Plus, he is not very easy to sell to a company's customers, sad to say, because he is not one of those good looking stud drivers everyone wants nowadays.

I think that Brett is the better Bodine but he just got stuck with the owner driver deal! Liek Kyle I think Brett needs to step out of the day to day stuff a little. Mayeb for brett have Geoff do some of the things. IMO Brett is a good spokes person, he is smart, well spoken, does not look like Spencer :D
What i read at Jayski today Brett might have a new sponsor to NASCAR that will be able to make him go back full time and would be much more money that Hootes was giving him. SO that is great news for him. He said he is Goin to RUn the Brickyard 400 and Watkins Glen but won't run any more races untill he gets that sponsor. WHo ever the sponsor was he was talking to them for 2004, but they might just go ahead and join this year!

Todd, Well he is a good NBS driver and at times can drive good in Cup. When he drove the #75 Butch Mock car in the early 90s he did pretty good in that car. He also has done half way decent at times in the #54 car this year. Maybe he just likes to race the Red/WHite?Blue cars better than the others!

With this being Jeff's birthday, I thought this was the perfect time to bump this thread.

Jeff Burton was on a hot streak until last year. With the emergence of Kenseth and Busch in Roush, I dont think Burton will have a good shot at winning this year because all of Roush's stuff is directed towards the 17 and the 97.
Other than that, he's a good guy, but he's way toooo safety concious.

I like Jeff Burton. But I think he needs to leave Rousch so he can be in a main car. He has too play 4th string behing Busch, Kenseth, and Martin.

I agree. Jeff is a great driver, he just needs something to drive that would show his talent. HAPPY 36th BIRTHDAY, JEFF!!!

Jeff is a great driver, and he has showed that in the past. Before he has been a VERY serious contendor for the championship, and he should still be...but he is turning things around this year, It seems. B)

Ward Burton is a cool guy. About my 2nd fav. driver. Also fun to listen to. :D

I could listen to Ward talk all day - I just love his voice! :)
