Nascar will worry about guys putting grease on their rear bumper guards but wont do SFA about guys running around half throttle in these ridiculous fuel mileage races

The only option to fuel mileage strategy (and fuel mileage races) is the dreaded "Phantom Caution". I'll take the "real" finish over an "orchestrated" finish any day!!

However, someone suggested (sorry I can't remember who said this) that NASCAR and GoodYear bring a tire that wears out before the cars run out of fuel. That would prevent guys from stretching their fuel.

A far worse decision would be to throw a "competition caution" with 25 or 30 laps to go - not that this has been suggested but it may have been considered...

Does anyone know who the driver was that espn was apologizing for about their language during the pre race, and what did they say?

I was wondering the same thing when they first started taking about it, but he did go on to mention Kurt Busch. Now sure why though.

Kurt Busch dropped some choice words pre-race, obviously peeved about his car situation. Not sure if it was because he was asked a question or if the reporter was about to ask him a question and the mike was hot. I honestly didn't catch what he said.

Kurt Busch, they were trying to get a comment from him on pit road after the problem with pre race inspection and all he said was something like get the
f*$& out of the way..
Typical behavior for him.

Larger fuel cells of a few different capacities which outlast any tire Goodyear brings.

He said fasterix dollarand? That's not so bad.

Thank's... I thought that might have been who it was. I seen him walking away from a reporter, but I didn't hear what he said.

Wonder how the folks at Pennzoil/Shell are liking their new spokesperson???????

No doubt! Kurt has GOT to be treading on thin ice with sponsorship and or having a ride at all.....I mean I don't care if he does pull off a win every now and then...who would want the jerk representing them?!?

Maybe Extenze. He has been acting like a big dick lately.

And I wonder if Jack Roush has EVER regretted firing Kurt... :sarcasm:

What are those dirty mouth commercials trying to sell? They would be perfect for the #22.

TV showed Helton talking to Roger. I'm sure he got an ear full of fasterix dollarand.

I think that they and any other sponsoe going into it know full well that that kind of language goes out over the radios all the time, and it's common for the networks to repeat certain transmissions with the potentially ofensive words thinly beeped out.

Pennzoil said from day one it wasn't about who drove the car. They got a couple hundred million worth of business through Penske's dealerships and truck rental businesses. I also doesn't hurt that Dodge/Chrysler use Pennzoil exclusively in their new cars.

Comment After NASCAR New Hampshire Win?

Tony Stewart had just climbed from his car after winning Sunday's NASCAR Chase race
at New Hampshire Motor Speedway when, out of the blue, he made a cryptic comment to ESPN reporter Vince Welch.

"We got rid of some dead weight earlier this week, so it's made it a lot easier," Stewart said of his team's sudden turnaround. "It's been a big weight lifted off our shoulders. Sometimes you've got to make adjustments in your life, and we did that, and it's definitely helped this weekend for sure."

Clearly, Stewart wasn't just referring to something that happened on the racetrack (like his first win of the season last week at Chicago).

And according to crew chief Darian Grubb, Stewart wasn't talking about any personnel moves related to his Stewart-Haas Racing team, either.

"Not that I know of," Grubb said, then added with a chuckle: "Maybe he's talking about (firing) me and I just don't know it yet."

So what exactly did Stewart mean with his "dead weight" comment?

Don't ask him. He had no intentions of elaborating on his remarks despite bringing up the subject – unprompted – on national television.

"We're just going to leave at that," he said.

When ESPN.com reporter Ed Hinton bravely tried to follow up with Stewart, the driver declined.

"No, you can't ask anything," Stewart said. "It is what it is. That's all it was, is what I said. And that's where we're going to leave it."

Talk on Win Tunnel was that maybe he broke up with Jessica Zemkin, and she was the dead weight being referred to.

Good win for Tony, but making that comment was dumb.

This might be what Tony was referring to:

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nascar/...leases-director-of-competition-bobby-hutchens

But then again, it could have been this:

6a00d8341c650b53ef01310f4a1d13970c-500wi

I dunno...

It would be pretty tasteless to refer to an ex-GF as Dead Weight, but the same could be said of referring to his former Competition Director. I guess that we will have to continue to guess until the mystery is solved!! ;-}

If that's true, Tony was just being a dick taking a cheap shot at his ex on national TV. Is he really that catty?

I'm thinking the dead weight is the 78 team Tony was renting SHR's third pit crew to. It's just a guess, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. Maybe he is talking about switching a crew member out with the 78 crew. That's what they are there for.

Yeah, Tony doesn't strike me as a "catty" type of guy. He is usually pretty private about his personal life, I highly doubt his gf or former gf, would be what he is referring to. I am sure it is something that was done inside the team...

Yes, he is.

He's the co-master of cheap shots and back-handed comments when giving interviews and always has been although I have no idea what he was referring to with dead weight.

Good win for Tony, but making that comment was dumb.

Tony is consistent at making DUMB comments.

He opens the door, but only after does the reporter realize, their wearing a blindfold!
