Many more 2-day weekends next season?

... I understand why they've been doing what they've been doing. I just don't like it.
You understand it? I don't. It doesn't take two hours to set up a pit box after rain-delayed supporting race is run the same morning.

From a fantasy racing point of view, I don't like it. It greatly reduces the window between Q and the race start. Many players want to see Q results before making final picks.

I like the shorter weekends. Don't really have a problem with pit selection as I really don't care about which pit stall my driver has. Feel like these are better from an at the track prospective than tv.

It's BS a pit selection is based on Q from race before. Coulda majorly screwed the 21 this weekend but they managed.

If this is truly the case, I hope they get the whole Qualifying/Pit Selection working where pit selection isn't based on the race from the weekend before. I understand why they've been doing what they've been doing. I just don't like it.

I like the way when anything is being taken away in the Nascar realm the word "enhanced" is always used. I am just glad that when I went out for breakfast this morning my waitress June didn't enhance my portion Nascar style as I was hungry.

If 2 days save the teams appreciable money over 18 races it sounds like the sensible thing to do as with less money flowing in cuts have to be made anywhere they can.

My not liking it only has to do with that pit selection being based on anything from the week before. Two day weekends are fine by me. I quit taking in all 3 days long ago. I just think qualifying at Track A earning pit selection for both Track A & Track B is ridiculous. If they really feel that they do not have the time between qualifying & the green flag on race day, maybe base it on practice times that weekend leading up to qualifying? At least it would be based on what is occurring at Track B and not from an unrelated race the week before.

I believe they only did the weekend before qualifying thing once. I hope once is enough. The rest of it I don't have a problem with.

I hope they leave Daytona alone, their practice days always give me an excuse to take off from work ;):D

If the fastest car doesn't always sit on the pole none of it makes a diff to me. I think they should hold a draw for starting position and pit stall.

Choosing pit stalls from qualifying the week before is the way Indycar does it every week and it works out fine.

That's actually a pretty good idea I've never thought of. That'd put much more emphasis on the regular season.

Don't assign them- just do it where first pick goes to the point leader, second pick to the second in points, etc.
I think they did that back in the day and decided it gave the leader in points too much of an advantage.

The media is really pushing back on this because they say it limits their access to the drivers because of the shorter, more compacted schedule.

I guarantee you the SMI tracks won't be having the no-Friday practice or qualifying.

I never even noticed that until this year. I don't think it's as important there since the pits aren't as crowded and certain stalls aren't at such a premium, and there are generally fewer pit stops as well.

Gossage and Brent Dewar even got into it over this on Twitter a few days ago. I don't know if it was deleted or not but I'll see if I can find it.

The only thing Eddie is interested in is feathering his own nest. Perhaps TMS could give some of its TV money back to the teams so showing up for an extra day would not represent a financial hardship for some of them.

I would imagine qualifying will go off a little earlier OR they should just go back to the way we used to do it and draw for them. They way it should be in my opinion. You dont deserve an advantage for being the fastest qualifier.

I love the 2 day idea. I think making these teams qualify on the same day as the race is great. If they have trouble in qualifying they have a limited amount of time to get it fixed. It puts pressure on the teams and the drivers to do it all right. Also, it appears that they are trying to make the Friday experience more of a fanfest idea, which if all is true could lend to more accessibility to the drivers.

It all sounds good to me. I have always believed in pill draws and inversions when it comes to qualifying so I like the idea of a random lottery draw for stalls as well.

It promotes sand bagging and turns the whole process into a farce. Like back in the 90s, mid pack drivers would always have the fastest ‘happy hour’ times, but come race day were often a lap down before the first pit stop. You’ll be turning the qualifying session into the last practice session, where no body is pushing their car 100%
