martin terrible in the 14 car

That's going a bit far.

They have a strong and close affilation but I doubt they can just walk in there and take stuff from those teams. It'd be odd quite honestly.

He's right about the setups and even after race data so they can figure out what the other drivers are doing with their feet.

I agree it is going a bit far, but it's true. I saw Jeff Gordon say it in an interview a year or so ago.

SHR can access any info on car setups from any HMS tram if they want it. If any SHR team is struggling on any given weekend, they can go to any HMS team and see what their setup is if they want. I would think pride and sportsmanship probably keep them from doing it, but that's just a guess on my part.

SHR get engines and chassis from HMS and have access to all the R&D info from head to toe on the cars. The R&D HMS has on shocks alone is massive, so you can imagine how much it helps SHR to have a deal like that.

SHR is more a full blown HMS team than a team Tony started from scratch as some people like to think.

I think what it comes down to is this sport is so close, the difference's are measured in hundredth's of seconds. When the setup is just slightly off, you can find yourself in 25th place. Likewise if the driver is not up on the wheel, pushing the car to the limits then you'll find yourself at the back of the pack. Clearly Mark is not pushing that car very hard, which may very well be his mandate from Tony and co. I think the 14 cars problem are two fold, firstly the driver is not pushing it hard and secondly the CC (Addington) is not putting the best setups in it, nor is he improving it much throughout the weekend.

Also, as of late the SHR stuff isn't as new as the HMS stuff. I believe it was hidesert cowboy who brought that up somewhere recently in regards to the chassis selections each week. SHR seems to be reusing a lot of chassis and older stuff, while HMS is rolling out their new stuff frequently and obviously for the Chase.

Drivers have been reusing winning chassis' for years .
Yes, last weekend for HMS @ Dover.....

5 - Crew chief Kenny Francis has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-769 for Sundays Dover race. Kahne has raced this car six times this season, notably reaching Victory Lane at Bristol on March 17. During those six starts, he has averaged a 5.67 starting spot on the strength of outside pole positions at Phoenix and Bristol and a fourth-place start at Richmond. Kahne also lined up eighth in this car on July 14 at New Hampshire. Most recently, he finished second driving this car at Bristol in August.

24 - Not reported

48 - drove chassis No. 797 at Dover, which last raced at Michigan in August finishing 40th and at Dover in June finishing 17th.

88 - crew chief Steve Letarte and the #88 team will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-745 this weekend at Dover. Earnhardt has averaged an 8.75 finish running this chassis this season. Most recently, he recorded 10th-place results at Bristol in August and Dover in June. Prior to that, he raced this car to a ninth-place finish at Darlington in May and a sixth-place finish at Bristol in March.

its the chase teams like to run cars they know have run well. but at the same time SHR does have access to the best wind tunnel in the business, they also hang their own bodies and assemble the cars from just a steel chassis.

but back to some comments like mark has been told not to run the car hard?!?!?! WTF why in the world would tony or anyone else say mark just drive around out there don't get in a wreck and don't drive fast. you gotta be kidding me. Thats something levine family racing tells scott speed to do when he drives the 95 car. mark is known for being responsible with cars. a well financed team isn't going to say something like that to a driver. further why would mark leave the 55 car if he thought there was no possibility of winning in the 14 car??? why not just stay in the 55 if that was the arrangement. if a team like SHR doesn't shine it does make signing sponsors more difficult, yeah bass pro is on board but what about all the little associate sponsors they don't want the car "back in one piece" mentality. I am sure the last thing on tony's mind is being outshined by mark martin, tony has an ego but not that much of one.

I just can't wrap my head around mark being so slow in this car, he slow in practice, quailifying and the race. and by slow I am talking racing with danica, front row, and swan racing, and maybe jtg Daugherty. with the exception of danica none of those cars have hendrick engines and chassis, a rolling floor wind tunnel and 20million + in sponsorship

Wow, at Dover there were really only 2 decent cars that didnt have issues hanging back in the mid 20s and 30s. Danica of course was one, but Mark was the other. Cmon, retire already, and bring Labonte with you while you're at it.

I whole heartily endorse this post.

Exactly the same thing they said about Terry Labonte before he got hired by Rick Hendrick. Like deja vue all over again.:)

Being a Martin fan for years my opinion is somewhat biased. In the 55 car Mark would unload and usually be in the top speedchart wise. He is a great driver and I am having a hard time understanding what is going on in the 14. I had high hopes for him since he did so well in the 5 car. If SHR was going to tell anyone to just drive around and not get into trouble it would be Danica. She is marketable weather she is up front or not

There is no question that they want Mark to run up front . And there is no question that Tony will do anything to help him to get up front . This is big time racing ,what you lose in speed this year will put you behind the pack next year . And sponsors won't put up with this crap long . Tony Stewart fans should be real worried right now . There is no way to justify where their cars are running.

In fact , if you want a new rumor to think about . Why doesn't Danica take Go Daddy to MWR ?

But Newman is running the best he's run all year right now. Four Top 10 finishes out of the last five races and up to 7th in points. I'd bet the two teams that are out of it are doing some R&D so they can get a jump on transitioning to a four-car operation.

Danica doesn't cheat :D[/quote

No , but that Napa team was a top ten team all year , without cheating . If Truex and Napa leave , that would be a heck of a step up for Danica and Go Daddy . She had one good car from Stewart Haas all year and she put it on the pole.

I think Danica needs to step up her performance before anybody else takes a chance with her.
Yes, she put a car on the pole but ultimately, you get paid for the finish, not the start.

lol Yes, she only had one good car all year. All the other cars she had this year weren't good because she didn't put them on the pole or get a good finish, so it must be she only had one good car all year.
