Martin to MWR? Reutimann out

I wonder how much difference it would have made had they told him a month ago. It's not like there are an abundance of rides that opened up recently. I'm still surprised with the move to bring in Martin. I really thought he'd end up @ SHR running the part time schedule alongside Danica to help her out.
 
Just announced that Mark Martin will drive 00 in the 2012 Daytona 500. Michael Waltrip will run the other three plate races next season, as well as Kentucky

Michael Waltrip will also drive in the Bud Shootout, allowing Mark Martin to focus on the Daytona 500 next year

Mark Martin will do 24 points races plus all-star race.

Also..... Aaron's is extending its sponsorship with MWR through 2013. Aaron's will sponsor car for 30 races each year.

Given Mark's friendship with Tony and he's already worked with Godaddy I thought it was pretty much a lock that he would be driving Danica's car. Now Tony has to find someone else but the question is, who?

You & me both. I thought that was the perfect 'swan song' for Martin..... Instead, we'll probably have to endure a DW type exit from the sport. :(

For what it's worth.....

Waltrip seemed to lay the decision to fire Reutimann and replace with Martin at the feet of Aaron's CEO Ken Butler.
 
Maybe, just maybe, Joonyer will decide that doing 36 CUP Races, running a Nationwide Team and juggling his dozens of endorsement obligations is just too much for one man to handle. So, HE will move to the third SHR car and partner with his future wife (I know that Miss Thang is married - but have you seen that guy?;)) and run a part-time CUP schedule and possibly some races on the Nationwide schedule, too.
 
Interesting just saw that Aaron's commercial with the girl singing, I think they edited Reuti out of it.
 
Ruti was asked about the decision to release him and said that he was surprised and disappointed that it came so late in the game. He also said that for him to get another CUP ride at this point would mean that he would have to do to somebody else what was just done to him - and he didn't want to do that.

Say what you will, Dave has always been a stand-up guy and I think that he got hosed. But bidness iz bidness!
 
Reuti's always been a class act. loved interviewing him a couple years ago. He's as comical in person as he is in the aaron's commercial. He got hosed. Hopefully a ride somewhere will open up for him. Maybe Tony will take him on to fill out the 10 car when danica's not in?

i doubt tony will take him on. he doesn't have the name to attract sponsors. attracting sponsors is the name of the game in racing.
 
If I had 2 drivers and had to get rid of one, I don't think it would be the one that has won the only races my team has ever won.

Mikey should have retired a couple of years ago.

At this point, he'll be like Derrick Cope or Morgan Shephard, racing till they need walkers. But at least Morgan has a track record, unlike Waltrip and Cope...

I couldn't agree more. What a stand-up guy that Mikey is! Where's Robby Gordon when I want to see a helmet pitched at him???!!!! :D
