It probably will but more than likely no further back than the drugs and stealing.
The thing is, Mayfield wasn't that good of a Cup level driver. If NASCAR reinstates him, he may get a Cup race or two in an under-funded car but I don't ever see him getting back behind the wheel of a racecar capable of winning a Cup race. I see him running the Truck Series.

The unfortunate part is if he had done what Nascer requires, what 4 or 5 years ago, and taken the road to recovery his racing career would also be well on the road to recovery by now.
...and he's still be a mediocre driver.
