Media first, team next?

Bill Davis was reported to be somewhat miffed to learn that Tommy Baldwin was entertaining a contract offer from DEI. Not necessarily because of the offer, but because the first Bill heard of it was reading the news.

Ty Norris was reported to be unhappy to read about the offer in the media as well. Not that Ty has a lot of room to complain about airing team inner workings in the media.

We all know that members of the 28 team have been unhappy with comments to the media on all sides of every issue that team has had this season.

And we have the EMT from the New Hampshire track airing his complaint months after the fact by going to the media.

And John Andretti and Kyle Petty have both had pointed remarks to the media for misinformed and misguided information being published about their plans and actiivities.

It is great that we can enjoy the depth of coverage now available to the fans, but as in all things there is a price to be paid. IMHO, it tis not right that particiapnts should air situtaitons prior to conversations with their teams. Repoters and journalists should in some way be accountable for what they write and careful to make clear what is opinion and what is fact.

In the long run, as in all reporting, it will remain up to the reader to discern fantasy from fiction. And I suppose to decide whether a report should first have been discussed within a team or is simply maipulation by the individual to exert pressure on their team or influence public opinion in their favor.

The place is full of vultures I tell you. vultures, vultures everywhere. (apologies to Casablanca for the paraphrase):)
