Media, KB fans blow 100 wins out of proportion

What does number of races run have to do with anything? I am not the one that brought it up. It has nothing to do with my arguement. My point is comparing 100 wins, most of which were in inferior series, as being halfway to Petty's 200 Cup wins is apples and oranges.

dude, you brought up a common misconception that Petty ran more races each year, when in fact, he ran less. I was just making sure that fact was clear.

The thing is...you can't compare dinosaur racing to the level of racing that we have today. The level of competition is WAY different today than it was when RP drove a racecar. Which is why RP quit winning. I'm not taking anything away from RP, he was a defining pioneer in the sport.
I believe that with the evolution of the sport and the progression of the drivers abilities, Richard Petty, in his hay-day, would have trouble beating the top tier drivers in the Nationwide Series today...IMHO

You're sorta contradicting yourself with the above statements in bold. Are you suggesting that a prime RP, with no knowledge of the COT, taking from yesteryear via a time machine would not be competitive with today's drivers, or are saying a RP born in the late 80's (and thus immersed in today's evolution of the sport) would not hold a candle to the Kyle Buschs of today?

I don't think anyone can accurately speculate how much RP would have accomplished today if he was born and schooled in this era of racing.

Same with Kyle Busch. We can't send him back to circa 1970 (in an unfamiliar, primitive car with no power steering) and expect him to excel. You're right. No comparison.

I think you get the idea. It's impossible to accurately compare two drivers from two different technological eras.

They had a gentlemans agreement to take turns I'm told.

Source it, or it is BS. For all of the time Petty gave to the fans gracefully, in his rugged era he deserves much better than some classless snark.

And AndyMarquisLiv if you want to trash Richie Evans, trying spelling his name right, before typing the snark for a second day in a row. First time I have called spelling, since my grammar sucks, but it is not "Ritchie" , it just appears like snark on someone you know little about.

Richie was no gimmick, he was also inducted into the International Motor sports Hall of fame. I would have loved to have seen Richie race.

Even as teenager in the late 70's, and the early 80's I knew about Evans while living in South Carolina.
When I read about racing in New England the most obvious point was that Evans was the man, the legend, and that he inspired many.

I guess posting up Snark on an old school hero who literally lost his life for the passion, makes your day, it seems senseless to me, I thought you respected the old racers more.

No, Petty quit winning due to age. It is statistical fact that while some drivers will win a few after turning 45, that almost all decline.

Harry Gant, and Mark Martin maybe exceptions to the rule, but almost all others decline in their mid 40's, as did Petty.
Bobby Allison was the oldest champ at 45.

Comparing Petty in his prime to top tier Nationwide drivers is cheap baiting, and deserves no consideration.

Chill dude....I was kidding. My statement was so ridiculous that I thought everyone would know it.......Also why I put the shades on at the end.

I have immense repect for the King.....even used his services for a ride along in Vegas. Just sayin' the 2 different eras cant be compared.

Fair enough Clutch my apologies, I just use an Iphone, and had the images turned off. So again sorry.

I agree the comparison of two different eras is very flawed. I made a post to that effect a few days ago on one of the twenty seven "I am offended at Kyle Busch for the 100" threads created here in the last week.

I sure wish it was consolidated to one thread, perhaps some redundant points would be limited.

Again my bad, and my apologies for going over the top with you.

So why do KB fans insist on trying? Let them answer this: All of Jeff Gordons wins came in the modern era, and against some of the greatest drivers of all time. What's the justification for equating Kyle's NW and truck wins with Gordons cup wins? Kyle has 1/4 of Gordons Cup wins, and his first 7 years of Cup can't hold a candle to Jeff's accomplishments, yet Kyle is placed well ahead of Gordon on these bogus lists.

The whole thing cheapens the accomplishments of others to try and raise Kyle to heights he hasn't, and may never achieve.

Hey Greg no sweat ,...all is cool

We all get a little defensive around here on occasion,.......and thats a massive understatement. But I thank you for your response.
