The Phantom Strikes for ALWTS Toledo Opener; Kids Getting the Right Message

13 The Phantom Lifeguard Medical Supply Toyota 09 Tacoma

TOLEDO OH (5-16-09) - The Phantom has struck; it's a good thing too.

The Phantom, a driver in the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series (ALWTS), along with veteran series driver/owner Norm Weaver addressed a very special audience of grade school kids Friday afternoon at Shoreland Elementary school in Toledo, Ohio.

Weaver, with the brand-new no. 13 Phantom Chevrolet Colorado race truck as his wicked backdrop, spoke about the importance of making the right choices, staying away from drugs and associating with the right people.

In addition, the Clarksburg, West Virginia racer encouraged the kids to pursue their dreams.

"Maybe you want to be a race driver; maybe you don't," said Weaver while the Phantom watched in eerie silence.

"It doesn't matter what your dream is. What's important is that you go after it. And to do that, you need to hang out with the right people - positive people who support your hopes and dreams. And of course, always, always say no to drugs."

The Phantom, listed with Toledo as his or her hometown, is one of 26 top-notch ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series entries for the series' season opener this Saturday, May 16 at Toledo Speedway - the K-100 presented by All Sport.

Other entrants include ALWTS champions' Paul Hahn of Canton, Michigan and Bill Withers of Columbus, Ohio as well as hometown favorites' Mike Young, Brad Yunker, Tommy Adams, and of course, the Phantom.

Brian Norton, of nearby Temperance, Michigan, the all-time Street Stock winner at Flat Rock Speedway, is also scheduled to make this series debut as a teammate to Young.phantomtruck09.jpg

The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will open the curtain Saturday for the big race weekend at Toledo, which also features the ARCA RE/MAX Series Menards 200 finale Sunday afternoon. NASCAR stars Ken Schrader and Paul Menard have filed entries for the race.

ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series practice is from 11:15 to 12:15 PM Saturday with ARCA RE/MAX Series practice following from 12:30 to 2:00. The ALWTS will qualify at 2:15 followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell for the ARCA RE/MAX Series at 3:30. The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series K-100 is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM Saturday afternoon.

The K-100 race event will also be featured via a live video and audio stream at ARCAracing.com over the ARCA Racing Network.

Pre-race ceremonies for the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care begin at 1:15 Sunday, May 17 followed by the 200-lap race at 2:15.

Toledo Speedway is located at 5639 Benore Rd., Toledo OH, near the intersection of I-75 and Alexis Road. For more information, please call ARCA at (734) 847-6726, or Toledo Speedway at (419) 727-1100.

BTW, the race sucked. The little bit of green flag racing there was, was great. Everytime the racing got good, someone else would crash.

Tough break for Schrader, cutting down a tire at the end.

He ran out of fuel at Rockingham, and then this today. Both times, first time winners.

I like Sean Caisse but his front bumper caused a couple of wrecks (shocker:sarcasm:).

Yeah, it did suck. Kevin Belmont does suck, is he Andys son or something? Everyone in ARCA must hate Tom Hessert(Especially Sheltra), he constantly wrecks people for no reason.

All Sheltra has done is back himself in a corner with a big target on him. Menard was working through traffic like most cup drivers do. Bump and run... Menard gave him a ride after he got tired of getting mirror driven by Sheltra for about 10 laps. He blocked him high and low loke it was the last lap of the race. This was around lap 40 or less. Too go out and line yourself up on a green white checker at the tail of the field shows it was all planned. His spotter assisted by setting this last lap debacle up and should be removed from the spotters stand for good. Several teams will demand this idiot be parked. Try that chicken crap stuff in NASCAR and you will be dirt racing the rest of your life. He has removed himself from any championship hunt. Nobody will give him an inch from now on he does not have the talent or patients to be constantly rubbed on. He proved that today.

I like the remark that "Sheltra got his revenge on Menard at the end" That is laughable at best. Think about it. Menard is in Cup. Sheltra in ARCA. Sheltra will never see a Cup race from behind the wheel. At best he will be an also ran in Nationwide.

John Menard was at that race. I am sure that Ron Drager was doing his best to sell this guy on a possible series title sponsor roll. Then at the end you have some nut job taking out a car like that and affecting others who had nothing to do with it. Real classy move...and then to hear his team members walking around after the race laughing about it.

Sheltra also does not help his case by being knee walking drunk the Saturday night at the Toledo Speedway Bar and Grill.

OK I have vented.

Oh, one other thing...Kevin Belmont. He was all over the place today. I guess he thinks he does not need to yield to the faster cars. He was in the way all day and refused to get out of the groove. Expensive day for ABR.

The drivers meeting at Pocono will be interesting.

Kevin Belmont is Andys younger brother.

Tom Hessert drives just the same way his car owner did and it never got him anywhere.

Lofton's another one I'm beginning to take issue with. If he's not winning, he'll end up wrecking somebody out. He wrecked Sheltra at Daytona and landed him in the hospital, and then he caused a few wrecks out at Salem. Sure enough, there he was involved in the starting of a spin early on yesterday.

Camp65 -- did you see Menard wreck Harvick to get his only Nationwide Series win. That's the only way Menard races, if he can catch up with somebody to turn them.

Needless to say this guy isn't a Patrick Sheltra fan.

Didn't they fine Scott Speed some points and money after the Toledo finale last year? They should be fining Sheltra too.

Toledo always seems to cause a lot of very angry drivers. I remember a few years ago Billy Venturini wrecked Brent Sherman under caution.

For pete's sake. What is this, pro wrestling? :D

Here's a picture of "The Phantom", just because I now have over 15 posts, and can post pictures
phantom09.jpg

Apparently "The Phantom" can't drive through walls. :D

He was actually doing well at that time, i'm not sure but i think he was in 3rd when he wrecked. Although maybe the race was fixed or something because there was a truck that was blocking big time all day, but when the Phantom came he just let him by. I think it was the 19 truck, he was in the top 5 and gave the spot to the phantom

The 11 truck of Norm Weaver(owner of the 13) was also driving a truck with the Phantom paint scheme. Pretty nice looking truck actually. I'm suprized ARCA went along with this gimmick, it makes the series look like a complete joke.

You know ARCA. To them, any publicity is good publicity

For a track that's supposed to be so exciting (Toledo), it sure does make the news for all the wrong reasons and it makes ARCA look like a joke every time they race there.

LOL -- Sheltra Motorsports PR forgot :)sarcasm:) to mention the retaliation in their press release. :lol2:

Patrick Sheltra Dumped In Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio (May 18, 2009) - - Patrick Sheltra was looking forward to celebrating his 23rd birthday with his second win of the season at Toledo Speedway but instead, Sheltra left the half-mile oval frustrated after being taken out of the 200 lap event inside the race’s first 50 circuits.

Sheltra who held three consecutive top-10 finishes heading into Sunday’s event was looking to record his fourth top-10 finish of the year in ARCA’s third short track event of the season.

In practice, the Sheltra Motorsports team struggled to find the speed they were looking for. The team made a series of wholesale changes near the end of practice which accelerated the team’s performance on the track. Upon further review, the team found two additional hiccups with their No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS which resulted in easy fixes. Back on track, the team knew they had a good car for the race.

With rain drenching the Toledo Speedway early Saturday afternoon, the field would be set based upon 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series car owner standings which put the No. 60 fifth on the starting grid.

At the start of the event, Sheltra quickly settled inside the top-five. Dealing with a loose racecar, Sheltra maintained his position inside the top-10 until contact from another car set Sheltra for an innocent spin on the frontstretch near lap 15.

Only losing a few positions because of the contact, Sheltra regrouped in the 12th position and had worked himself back up into the eighth position when the day took a dramatic turn.

Paul Menard, making a rare appearance in the ARCA RE/MAX Series was following the Buffalo Wings & Rings Racing machine for several laps but unable to maneuver around Sheltra. As the two cars entered turns one and two on lap 42, a shove from the No. 98 of Menard set Sheltra’s machine spinning hard into the outside wall.

The damage required a lengthy trip behind pit wall where the team worked diligently to repair the team’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS with the Whitesville, Kentucky team returning to the event just before the half-way mark.

Sheltra used the remainder of the sixth race of the season to log laps and pick up spots on the track in order to gain crucial points. Sheltra would eventually finish the event in the 29th position.

“I really don’t know what to say other than Paul Menard needs to stay in the Sprint Cup Series,” said an obviously frustrated Sheltra after the race. “I was racing him clean and hard and just because he is a Cup guy don’t mean I have to move over and let him go. He punted me because he couldn’t get around me. I guess he doesn’t care that there are teams out there running for a championship. If he doesn’t want to respect the guys in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, he doesn’t need to be racing here.”

The Indiantown, Florida native added, “I hate it for Buffalo Wings & Rings, all of our marketing partners and the guys. They didn’t deserve this.”

The finish dropped Sheltra two positions in the ARCA RE/MAX Series point standings to sixth heading into round seven of the season at Pocono Raceway on June 6.

Exiting Toledo, Sheltra has 52 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). Sheltra also holds second place efforts at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009), Toledo Speedway (May 2008) and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (September 2008) with four additional top-five finishes, (fourth) at Toledo Speedway (October 2008), (fifth) at Talladega Superspeedway (October 2008), (third) at Illinois State Fairgrounds (August 2007) and (fourth) at Berlin Raceway (July 2007) while holding additional top-10s at Kentucky Speedway (May 2009), Nashville Superspeedway (August 2008), Michigan International Speedway (June 2008), Kentucky Speedway (May 2008), Kansas Speedway (April 2008), Iowa Speedway (April 2008), Kentucky Speedway (June 2007), DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (September 2007) and Toledo Speedway (October 2007). A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.

I'm shocked by what I see in this video, and this deserves a 2 race suspension -- at minimum.

I'm sure ARCA is going to do something about it. They can't be too happy about someone taking out the son of one of ARCAs biggest sponsors.
When the first incident happened Menard was being very patient with Shelta, but Sheltra just kept blocking. The only way Menard was ever going to get by Sheltra was to hit him.

Not just taking the son of a big sponsor out, but taking the son out of a potential title sponsor -- a title sponsor who's talking about paying for television. I don't imagine that's sitting very well with ARCA officials.

Not only should Sheltra be suspended, his spotter and crew chief should as well.

Sheltra Motorsports PR is a joke in itself. All Chris Knight does is walk around as if he is the next Chris Economacki. He had to start somewhere and he has done a nice job with SOME of his work. He knows how to spin the bull crap for sure. He has drank the Sheltra Kool Aid and has been brain washed. He makes himself at home in the ARCA trailer as if it was his own office. I have heard several ARCA officials speak of a dislike of him.

If he really wants to tell the story of getting dumped in Toledo then tell about how much booze Sheltra dumped down his throat this weekend at the Toledo Speedway Bar & Grille. Along with mentioning that the team struggled to find speed in practice please mention how your driver struggles to walk out of the bar on most any race weekend in any town. He even had the nerve to say the team found two additional hiccups in the car. Did you stop to think that that it was just the driver who was likely still soaked to the gills in booze?

It was mentioned that I am not a Patrick Sheltra fan. Not true in a way. I neither liked or disliked him before this weekend but this idiot needs to be exposed for the fraud he is. I am going to take the time to send the youtube link to every one of his sponsors. There are 70 other currently listed ARCA ReMax car owners that will get the link. I would urge them that they DEMAND that this idiot be parked. I dont want this on probation BS for the rest of the year and a $1K fine. I wonder how they would explain to their new sponsor as to why they will not be racing next week?

Have fun running dirt late models 'cause that where your headed.

I'm not even going to say what I want to say because I already KNOW what would happen.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to miss Chris Knight at the track...

Believe it or not, I was sort of buying into Sheltra's explanation on how the big bad NASCAR driver just came in for one race, and wasn't interested in the ARCA point standings. But then of course I saw the link to You Tube posted here. And I pretty much agree with what AMLIVE says here. something is going to happen here, as far as a suspension.

Paul Menard wasn't completely innocent, but what Sheltra did was just wrong. The one i felt bad for the most was #81 Craig Goess, he ran great all day was going to get a good finish. Instead he ended up with a trashed car on the final lap.

I'm sure they're having a serious discussion at ARCA HQ (a.k.a. Ranch House Lounge in Temperance:lol2:) as we speak.

Yes, Goess and Kimmel got screwed. Goess a lot worse, obviously. Damn it, and to think I was going to send Sheltra money for the people car (seriously, I was).

But then of course I saw the link to You Tube posted here. And I pretty much agree with what AMLIVE says here. something is going to happen here, as far as a suspension.

If they do actually suspend him maybe his late model driver Shannon Babb will get a shot at pavement racing. He does well in the World of Outlaws, would be interesting to see him in ARCA.

I'd personally like to see Stuart Kirby back in an ARCA car.

Can you really call Paul Menard a big bad NASCAR driver? I mean, honestly, thats your logic? You have never even run in the Sprint Cup and yet still have pretty much the same Sprint Cup relevance that Paul Menard has. Seriously.

Chris Knight is on Thunder Crew trying to defend Sheltra (it's his job) over this now.

VERY entertaining stuff. :lurk: :dpepsi:

I mentioned Shannon Babb just because Sheltra Motorsports owns Shannons late model.

Actually they are just partners. Shannon maintains sheltra's dirt late models in his illinois shop and when shannon is over on the east coast he uses sheltras shop in florida to work out of as well as clint bowyers. But your right im sure some funding comes from sheltras

Would be cool to see shannon run with them guys in a couple races. Was cool to see josh richards run with the camping world east series and run in the top 10

Yeah, i didn't know for sure about Babbs team ownership. I had heard Sheltra motorsports owns it and i know Sheltra & Sons is a sponsor of Shannon. Josh Richards also ran Arca at DuQuoin a couple of years ago and did very well. I went to that and Greenville so as far as i know i went to all of his major paved races. I haven't heard about any others. I'm a big fan of Richards, Babb and all of the other Outlaws, those guys are really good.
