Menzer taking a shot at Stewart

Well the article is already outdated because Kurt kept his ride.

And I doubt Tony cares what this Menzer person thinks.

Yeah, but it's still surprising how much uproar his comments continue to evoke. He said he wanted to kick someones ass, but we all know he can't.

The article is from yesterday. Christ, Matt, pull that stick out of your ass, will you please.

I wasn't having a go at you, I meant that Menzer waited too long to publish an article with that headline. Makes the article obsolete in less than a day.

Sorry that it seemed like I was ripping you. But the way my posting has been these past couple of weeks I can understand why you'd assume such.

Fair enough. However, the subject of the thread is Menzer vs stewart. Nothing to do with KuBu.

I wish I got paid to write down my comments about the drivers of Nascar. I've done that for years so I should be bringing in the lettuce by now....

C'mon tell me more I don't recall that but I'm sure its good.

At Richmond, Menzer asked Kurt if he and JJ could win a championship while feuding, and Kurt went after him and had to be kinda, sorta held back. The he ripped up poor Jenna Fryers notes because she didn't know how to read them.

Kurt's an entertaining guy.

OK now I remember, Thanks

Joe Menzer is kinda like Bob Pockrass; neither one has a chance at driving a racecar and neither would ever be competitive in a racecar. Their only opportunity at participation in NASCAR is to sit behind a typewriter and offer their own relative perspectives. Educated or not, it's just another opinion.

On the other side of the coin...

Tony Stewart is kinda like Kurt Busch; neither one has a chance at writing an article that would make sense or be used in a rag. Their only opportunity at participation in NASCAR is to sit behind a wheel and drive their arses off. Educated or not, it's just another opinion.

By the way, I think Joe Menzer is an idiot.

True. I agree.
Which would you rather be?

I'd rather the race was the main story instead of the writer. Most of them are hacks anyways. Marty Smith is very good though and probably my favorite.

I love how racecar drivers think they know how to do our job. At least in politics, you're dealing with public relations people who know what your job is and that you have to do a job and are, as a result, respectful even when they disagree with you.

But since Tony Stewart knows how to do our job, let's hand him a laptop and send him to work. Stewart's just the a**hole defending the asscheek.

When you attack the messenger, you make the messenger the story. I know I've written stories not only putting someone from a competing organization in the spotlight but also defending them because someone used a public speech to fire cheap shots at them.

Let's hand Menzer a steering wheel and see what happens.

The difference is, Menzer isn't telling Tony Stewart how to race the car. Tony Stewart constantly tells the media how to do their jobs. I don't care how he'd do in a racecar. The reporters in the media center know it takes skill and talent to drive a racecar in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and they know no hack can just get behind the wheel of a car without training and win the Martinsville 500.

But some of the drivers and a lot of fans think they know how to do the media's job without any training. I've been doing this for five years now and I still don't have everything figured out.

And you know how to do Tony Stewarts job? Come on Andy, let's hand you a wheel and put you in a ride.

As for the PR people who represent politicians, man, you are very naive.

No I don't. Difference is, I don't go on Twitter and say I could do Tony Stewart's job and be a three-time NASCAR champion without any training or skill.

I deal with them everyday.... but you're right, they aren't respectful and treat me like total crap :sarcasm: I mean, you're the one doing my job :sarcasm:

I've only been doing this for five years, glad all of you internet experts have my job all figured out.

The subject of this thread is whether Menzer knows what the hell he's talking about and whether or not the fans agree with his perspective as it relates to his job.
We already know that Tony Stewart knows what the hell he is talking about as it relates to his job. Tony's job is NASCAR; Menzer's job is offering another perspective about a subject in which he has never actually been an active participant.

Pretty much anyone who wants to be a reporter can be a reporter. Only a tiny select few can be world class race car drivers. If the 10 most noteworthy racing writers all disappeared very few race fans would care or notice. If the top 10 most popular drivers disappeared NASCAR would be crippled.

Man up. Post the comment from Stewart saying he is a reporter and can do a better job than Menzer or any other reporter.

BAM! Spot on...

Obviously, I disagree. 50 million Americans can't even write at an elementary level. People watch FOX News, open up a blog and think they can waltz right in to a media center and offer a neutral, balanced article on whatever subject is. Keeping personal bias out of a neutral article is an essential skill that many 10-20 or more veterans still haven't figured out. There's also AP Style proficency, interviewing skills, a lot of your work depends on the notes you take, and so on.

But I'm glad everyone's got it all figured out.

When he tells reporters to "ask original questions", that's a glaring example of, "Tony Stewart doesn't know what he's talking about". Yet, he constantly berates the media and tells them how to do their job.

Hint: It's not the media's job to "ask original questions". It's their job to ask questions. And when he responds with something like, "I answered that question 13 weeks ago", guess what, things change in 13 weeks and the answer to that question might change.

But I'm glad you and Matthew have it all figured out.

That's bad reporting right there, since 28 million Americans are under 5 and haven't started school yet.

Yeah, and the ABC and NBC crowd are neutral and balanced.

Keeping personal bias out of a neutral article is an essential skill.....

OK, that one shouldn't have made it past the editors desk.

Tony has learned how to manipulate the fools in the press and say what he wants too in a way that does not get Nascar on his back. Sure can't argue with anything Menzer had to say about kurt though. I can't believe he still has a ride at all. Just a matter of time till be pops his cork again. Be real surprised if he's in cup at all next year. Even if another team wanted Kurt they'd never find a sponsor willing to gamble on him again. Sad how this guy has done nothing but go out of his way to ruin his career ever since he came to Nascar. Don't have much doubt he's finally burned his last bridge this time though.

Personaly I thoroughly enjoy Stewarts interviews I think the vast majority of the press fails to understand his quick wit and sarcastic character traits. Tony's very intelligent, insightful, opinionated and very well spoken. I wish there where more like him!
I do believe he has a tendency to get bored with the same old questions and takes it to the reporters to challenge him more than they do. Thats possibly what leads to his and the medias issues at times.
If the right interviewer catches Tony at the right time it's well worth hearing/reading thats for damn sure!

It's not the media's job to "ask original questions". It's their job to ask questions. And they aren't "stupid questions" either. Bottom line is, we're not in the cars, we don't know what's going on in the cars, we don't know what the driver is thinking, and that's why we ask "stupid", "unoriginal" questions.
