Wednesday’s NASCAR Cup Series race from Martinsville (Va.) averaged 1.71 million viewers on FS1, topping only a midweek Charlotte race two weeks ago (1.51M) as the least-watched Cup Series race since at least 2000. The three midweek races this season now rank among the 11 least-watched over the past two decades, with Darlington just outside of the bottom ten (2.09M). Combined, the three races have averaged 1.78 million viewers on FS1, 39% below the network’s average for its lone Sunday race this season at Bristol (2.93M).

I find it hard to imagine midweek races are here to stay if this is the case, especially once other sports start up again. But kudos to NASCAR for trying something.
 
Wow! Just what the heck are people watching then? It is surprising to me that more NASCAR fans would tune in to a Sunday race vs a midweek evening race.
I guess it doesn't help when the races are on FS1 a cable only broadcast.

Sure would like to take a look at those 11 races he is yapping about. Despite the deathbedding jackasses from sports media watch, Fox's numbers are slightly UP this year. That is with a rain delayed Daytona 500, long gap of no racing...more rain delays and no fans in the stands.
 
The broadcasters will decide the future of mid-week events.

They may well be ok with the numbers ... you’d have to look at the ratings history of the stuff NASCAR racing replaces. Follow the money ... they’re selling a lot of commercials and their production costs are lower.

Personally, I can’t imagine why I would ever complain about somebody giving me more access to my favorite entertainment.

Exactly. I have never understood anyone that complains about too much access or to many choices. It's almost like if they don't want to see it then no one else should be able to either. That seems a little selfish or arrogant to me. If you don't like the Wed night race then don't watch it. If you don't want to listen to bands at the track then go straight to your seat like Charlie Spencer does ;) . If you don't like the sexy Hooter, or Monster girls at the track then don't look at them...but if it's because your wife gets jealous because you take to long of a look, or you get jealous because your wife takes to long of a look...then that's a whole different problem that may need some couseling.:)
 
From the same article. You always have to read the last couple of lines these deathbedders write to find the back handed compliment.

If weak by NASCAR standards, the race did well enough for cable, ranking fifth for the night in adults 18-49. Viewership comfortably topped the competing Major League Baseball draft on ESPN and MLB Network (611K).
 
As a fantasy commissioner, multiple races in a week is a pain to manage. Depending on how many are on the 2021 schedule, I may not run a league next year.

But what doesn't work for me may work for Fox and NASCAR. We can't say they don't work when we don't know they're measuring it.

I’m good with some midweek racing, but would LOVE to see those be special designs that are shorter, built around heat races with a mix of cars in groups via drawings. Maybe an A heat, then a B heat. The bottom 18 race in the semifinal heat which determines the final finishing order for 21 thru 38, followed by the main final. Final and semi require 1 pit stop.

Just an idea I’m throwing out there, trying to make these races unique and intense. I’d love seeing that, particularly at short tracks.
 
Mid week races need to be substantially shorter.

People got **** to do.
 
I've absolutely loved them. My greedy side doesn't want a longer offseason in the future because of them though so I guess it's a love/hate relationship lol
 
Mid-week races are great and the shorter races they have done have been great as well. Viewership would be much higher on Fox
