We've got a new name and we've got a new logo, how bout' showing us that new trophy!

They've been taking about this on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio this morning and one of the ideas I'm hearing them talk about is a single trophy that gets passed on..... Similar to the idea used in the NHL. A single trophy possibly named after NASCAR's founder Bill France. It could possibly have each of the Cup Champions in the history of the sport engraved into its base.

I really like this idea. Anyone that is familiar with the NHL know that the Stanley Cup is a revered trophy in the sport. There is a lot of respect surrounding it. A trophy with all of the past history of NASCAR could possibly hold the same type of value. Probably only those fellow few of you that are NHL fans can understand that trophies significance.

Don't misunderstand, the team/driver would still receive a trophy that is theirs for as long as they desire but there would only be a single trophy that represents the longstanding history of the sport. Having it dedicated to it's founding father would only seem proper IMO.

Flame away!

I like that idea, dpk.
Great. Thought I might be on an island with that idea.

I like it and have wondered over the years why they didn't do it from the start.

EDIT: Maybe because It would seem to take away from the Harley J. Earl trophy.
That's still a dream trophy regardless of what they'd call the series championship trophy.

If Brian France is going to continue his trend of making NASCAR more like the stick and ball sports, the least he could do is model the trophy on what I consider the most beautiful, arguably the most respected and iconic trophies in sports: the NHL's Stanley Cup.

I would welcome that.

Is there enough money in the coffers to have a new trophy made? The trophy should just be a bust of the founder and then replica the NHL style for continuation.
They could even have the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in scarlet uniform present it.:D

Or the Borg-Warner.

It doesn't matter much to me, since there's never going to be on on my mantle.

i'd attach a mock up of what I believe would make a great trophy...

probably a bit top heavy, with a well rounded base.

greg would love it, butt TRL would remove it!!!

:D

I think this is Brian Frances elimination tournament and the trophy should honour him and his legacy. So hand the winner a trophy that captures Brians essence and effects, with a timeless statement for the ages.

Present the champion with a bag containing 30 pieces of silver, and hand Brian a new piece of rope in the Homestead victory lane every year.

Wow .

The historical trophy is an excellent idea. They'll need to install a breathalyzer on the thing so that Brian won't go anywhere near it. Otherwise he'll get bored with it two years in and come up with a scheme to start eliminating past champions.

Very sure BF was drunk at Homestead this year. Telling Johnson "nobody thought you could do it."

JMO but I think something like this would be better suited for Nascar's current champ due to the method they use in crowning him.

Something like the WHA used to use might fit your specs and Brian would love it as it was sponsored by a company.

I'm shocked we don't have a new chase format for next year yet. They seem to change just about every time JJ wins.

Relax, we still have a couple months for the changes to be announced. They're probably still working on the flowcharts to be finalized.

Every time I see you post this it always reminds me of the Aerosmith song from 1973. What was that again? Oh yeah, Dream On!
Funny, I'm reminded of Talking Heads' 'Once In A Lifetime':

Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...

Isn't Indy Car trophy like this?

The changes will be slapped together at the last minute, like everything else about this deal. Expect an announcement during the break between Duel 150's.

I think the only change to the Chase we'll see this year is a first round bye or some other reward for the regular season points leader. That's been the one change mentioned the most this year.
