More Canadian races possible for NASCAR

Actually, the Mosport idea will likely go ahead . It has all of the ingredients that Nascar loves . A huge fanbase that attend the races ; a friend in Ron Fellows ; Ron's partner a millionaire ; a tour sponsor in Canadian Tire that is putting money into the track ; and an opportunity for sponsors to reach a broader market.

Canadian Tire - as some may know - is a popular place for auto parts. I'm reminded of a time in my younger days when I working in the States. I was hanging in New Hamshire with some people I'd met when my brakes decided they needed some work so I ask one of the guys if there was a Canadian Tire nearby and he didn't have a clue in h*** what I was talking about. I took me about 10 seconds to realize why. I ended up blocking the front brake lines with a small nail and drove carefully home. The only hairy part of the trip was crossing the border but that's another story for another time but I do wonder if the car with Quebec tags that drove through without stopping had Villenueve behind the wheel.

Anyway, back to topic.

Mosport is an awesome track with plenty of history including F1, USAC, ALMS, CanAm and numerous other series over the past 50 years. However there is a new player on the Canadian racing scene with a more famous front man than Ron Fellows...........Jeff Gordon!

Check it out.

Looks like it could be a good track. And it would be unique since there aren't any 1 mile tracks with progressive banking.

But those are some weird grandstands. Doesn't look like there are any seats at the start/finish line.

Canada has some great fans. They fill up those venues. I seriously don't think that we're in any danger of losing the sport to another county over a race or two be ran somewhere else. I don't and can't go to all of the races anyhow so no big deal IMO. As long as I can sit back on Sunday and watch a good race I'm happy.

No but when fans are consistantly calling for more road races HERE and we have road tracks HERE.They want to go to Canada?

If NASCAR was smart they would bring a Truck/Nationwide and eventually maybe a Cup race to New Jersey Motorsports park. Only a 2 hour drive from New York City for me and it's very close to Philly. I think this area would flock to those events since Pocono sucks for a live race and Dover can be boring at times.

I'm split on this, we have a lot of Canadian fans that deserve some recognition and maybe a race or two but on the other hand we have sent so many of our resources out of the country that I would like to keep as many jobs and as much money in this country as possible. I am aware that this is not the podium but it is nascar related and I do not want to start a political discussion but this is my opinion.

Heck yeah! Put one there and three more down here. Like I said it makes to difference to me as long as I can sit back on Sunday and watch a good race I'm happy.

It is kind of funny though. Not all that long ago most fans hated the road course races. Boy times have changed. I've never been to Sonoma but I've been to Watkins Glen many times. Both there and Pocono are about equal driving times from my location and they're also the closest to me. If they do decide to put one up in Canada @ Mosport I may just have to give that on a go as well. It's closer to me than some of the others that we attend so why not?

Thanks. I don't want to see this thread get moved because of some political crap. That gets old and like you said, that's what the podium is for. If someone really wants to get into all of that then start a new thread over there.

As far as Canada and races go..... When I drive home from both Bristol and Martinsville the day after the race I am always amazed at the number of Canadian NASCAR fans that I see on their way back home. There are many, many Canadian fans that come here to support NASCAR and I think that's pretty cool. It's quite the investment to take the RV to the track for a week or weekend. Add to that the extra miles and crossing the boarder, those are some devoted fans.

I'd go to that. That track's a lot of fun.

Here's a solution: Exclude Alaska and Hawaii (due to logistics) and that leaves 48 states. Hold a race in each of them and give the drivers 4 weeks vacation - which is more than many of us get every year. Then just say to hell with Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico - no matter how bad they want to be a state ;)

Yeah but then they would be changing the amount of races to honor the #48! ;)

BREAKING NEWS: Trucks To Canada In 2013

NASCAR will maintain a presence in Canada next season, after all.
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park co-owner Ron Fellows confirmed today that the Ontario road course has been awarded the Sunday, Sept. 1 date on the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

"You could say that I am extremely pleased," said Fellows of the race, the first road course event for the Truck Series since Heartland Park Topeka fell off the schedule 13 years ago. It keeps Canada on the NASCAR map, after Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve announced that the Nationwide Series will not return there in 2013.

“We're thrilled to be able to bring the Camping World Truck Series to Canadian motorsport fans,” said Myles Brandt, President and General Manager of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park to the Canadian Wheels.ca website. “We’re looking forward to creating an unforgettable experience for both fans and drivers alike."

NASCAR Senior Vice President of Racing Operations Steve O’Donnell hailed the move, saying, “We’re excited to announce the addition of a world-class facility like Canadian Tire Motorsport Park to our NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule for 2013. We’re looking forward to working with Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as we introduce the Truck Series to our great fans in Canada. Their enthusiastic response to our sport has helped grow its popularity in Canada significantly throughout the years.”
