So, I moved a couple weeks ago. When I moved, I called Centurylink to have my service transferred. So, imagine my surprise when they said after I moved that it couldn't be transferred.

I was using Playstation Vue for TV and now all I get are the five locals (WRAL, ABC11, CBS North Carolina, The CW and FOX50). In other words, my Samsung LED TV and my Roku are completely useless wastes of money now.

Anyway, I found the phone line. So, I called today and asked why DSL wasn't available if the phone line was there. Turns out that, when they put the phone lines in, they weren't DSL compatible, and this wasn't long ago either. The phone lines that were put in three years ago only support dial-up internet ... in the year 2017.

So, in order to get TV, my options are Dish Network, which is terrible, and AT&T, which is expensive as hell. As for internet, my only option as of now is to use my AT&T phone as a hotspot.

It's 2017 ... how are we still not only using but pursuing 30 year old technology? Meanwhile, Google Fiber is now available in Raleigh.:rolleyes:
 
I love Directv.

I had to change my phone service. Straight talk did not work at my new house. I had to change to Verizon, pay as you go.

I'm really sorry, Andy, that you are having such big problems. sucks bad.

It's beyond frustrating, especially since I have to pay four times as much for TV (and not get things like Netflix or On Demand or any modern conveniences that the rest of the country has enjoyed for 15+ years).
 
I'm on 1 1/2 weeks without home Internet. It doesn't seem like a long time, but I havent taken my laptop anywhere to access a public wifi hopspot yet. I spent $10 more to double my cell phone 4G data from 5gb to 10gb. So far everything I have needed to do I have been able to do with my phone. Defintely beats paying $87 a month for Internet. Only thing I miss is not being able to browse countless hours of Youtube videos.

Anybody want to pay our internet bill at the school district? $1500/mo per campus.
 
Not having any TV sucks. Literally the only show that comes on any of the five that I watch is Supergirl:wub:. And the subchannels, there's one called H&I which shows a lot of sci-fi shows, but WRAL uses it for overrun when basketball comes on or reairs WRAL News on it, so shows I want to watch on it aren't ever on.

I'm about to cave and get DIRECTV. Since it costs the same to have four boxes as one, I'll probably go buy a second TV for the living room and a couple TVs for the bedrooms.
 
I try to always be prepared for survival without that basic necessities. If I ever get caught without my unlimited Verizon data, or the broadband I have my provisions.

The 128gb and 64gb cards are loaded with all the essential visuals. Even has a reverseible flashdrive to load between Phone and PC. And the bunker is stocked with Cheetos, and the Kokolher.

I know internet broadband access is available on boats and RV's. 12 inch dish is what we saw at a recent boat show. Cost? If you want it you want it so don't complain.

Satellite internet is worse than using my phone as a hotspot. Comes with the same data restrictions at a higher price. Plus, it doesn't work if it's rainy -- or even cloudy. I've had it before.

I had the same experience with satellite 'net --- getting put in timeout because you exceeded your daily download, sucks. I only used satellite because
it was the only option other than dial-up. Then finally DSL became available.

Here in the Hill Country, no DSL where I am. I do have a wireless service that's pretty reliable. Not exceedingly fast, and sometimes the heavy storms will knock out the tower, but it's better than satellite.

Dish isn't perfect, but it's actually a lot more reliable than the cable company we had before it. No sound or picture complaints here, but we do lose signal during bad weather at times. The cable though was awful; voices constantly going out of sync, losing picture signal, having picture with no audio, etc.

I didn't have any issues with Playstation Vue for seven months. I've had numerous issues with Dish and DIRECTV but they're the only options out here in Bum**** Nowhere.

DIRECTV's billing practices are egregious.
 
My son recently bought a house but checked to make sure they have Cox available there. If it hadn't been he would have walked. Wanted no part of any sat system and to be honest from what the people that we know that have them I don't blame him. What seems to happen is the worse the weather the worse the reception if any at all.

I had the same thing happen to me when I lived in New Hampshire. The local cable company said that they serviced it, they came out to install my cable and then told me that the cables in the building were no longer compatible with their hardware. The only way that I could get cable would be for my landlord to replace the cables. My landlord did not replace the cables.

I got like 2 channels over the air.
 
And out of data for the fourth time. :rolleyes:

My phone and computer all say I haven't used three gigs of data this week, but AT&T does. :rolleyes:
 
To be honest if the whole internet thing was so important why didn't it get checked on before buying? I agree that being with out the internet would be a royal pain, but I know with my kids it would be a deal breaker. My son bought a house but first he made sure that Cox would be able to provide service or else it would be a deal breaker.

It was checked on. CenturyLink lied to me like Kellyanne Conway.

I like WISP's and they are slowly getting more popular.
 
Are there any public wifis close enough you could piggyback off them with a booster?

OK,, I didn't read the 3rd one. Wouldn't be the first time that a provider has lied. AT&T lied to me and that is why I won't go back. A person would think that there would be some kind of at least sat that would be available that would work and then use hot spot on your phone for when it doesn't.
