NASCAR 2011 - The Game - Reviews/Thoughts

The damage on the EA games was a joke. You could be in a 10 car crash and flip upside down and then just keep right on going.

And I'm not kidding about 230. Once I figured it out, I would drop about 20 seconds behind the pack. They're running 180 and I'm doing 230 so I'd just go with 3 to go and flash by the whole field and win.

Total asinine joke.

No beer cars. Example..... Harvick is in a Shell type paint job with Childress Racing as the sponsor. I guess this once again has something to do with the sale to minors.

That sinches it, I'm not getting it. That is so damn gay, minors see beer sponsors all over the place during a race and every sporting event on earth but God forbid we have it in a game.

You had the speed comp on. I turn off all those gay assists.

I'm not sure how they determine this. I don't know if it is some kind of law governing such things because of the rating or if it is the choice of the gaming company?

Side story..... Years ago my son liked Dale Jr. and wanted his diecast. We used to always buy him the cheap ones at WalMart because he liked to play with rather than display them. When you'd go to a WalMart in our home state of PA, you couldn't find a diecast with a beer sponsor on it. Yet, when we went to neighboring states that sell beer and the like in their WalMarts, unlike PA, you could find all kinds of Dale Jr Bud cars or Rusty Miller cars. My guess is that there a legal issue that prevent them from the beer sponsors being portrayed in the game. While it does kind of suck I'm not sure it should be a deal breaker. Heck, grab a paint gun and head to the paint shop. As long as you know how to spell Bud, you can get it on the car somewhere. :D

What they should do is have beer sponsors as downloadable content. That way they arent really part of the game but you can get them if you want them.

Is there a free agency system? Say, if you wanted to move Ryan Newman to a Red Bull car for example? And can you change sponsors? Like put the Home Depot sponsorship on the #71 and hook up Joey Logano with Gander Mountain or Tire Kingdom lol.

Thats how I would do it.

The EA games were a joke.

You could be driving along, as, say, Dale Junyer and you'd get turned for nothing to do by Jeff Gordon because he's a supposed "rival".

Yeah I hated that rival thing. If someone spun out 10 cars ahead of you and you ran into him he'd spend the next 2 races trying to crash you. They should've never put that feature in the game.

To run a road course, you have to have the assists. RFactor and EA Sports just don't know how to do stock cars and you can't drive a road course on them. Every other game, no issues.

It's all in the setup man and patience. If you can get the setup right, turn all the assists off and turn damage off there are spots on Sonoma where you can just bull dog your way through the pack, it makes a hell of a mess with the AI cars. You got to use the other cars as a cushion in the turns. Yes, I have too much free time at night.

Where did your Kyle Busch avatar go?

What does the Miller car have on it in the game, if it says Penske or some kind of real sponsor thats better than what EA used to do. I hated how the Miller car said Rusty or Kurt in Miller font or the 8 car had Dale across the hood.

Where did your Kyle Busch avatar go?

I'm changing it weekly to whatever driver I pick in our forum thing each race. It's brought me a little luck the last couple of races. I'll bring back Kyle when he starts being a jackass again.

From the videos I've seen on Youtube, it does seem like NASCAR 2011 (The game) still has that rival system, is that true?

I agree I think it is better then any EA game I ever played the last being 07, I do kinda wish they had feeder series like they used to, but its a start I'd say for their first game they did a good job and have places to improve in future versions.

It says rival but it seems every race it just chooses a random car near you they havn't tried to wreck me my guess is it gives you more experience if you beat him.

Ah, well that's good. Damn, too bad this game isn't coming out on PC, I'd totally pick it up.

I keep waiting for him to act like a world class a**hole, he just hasn't done it yet.

I don't think there is.

I'm quickly learning to stay away from Scott Speed...I usually end up facing the wrong way.

So some guys are worse than others? Thats a cool feature. Seemed like EA had everone the same just the more popular drivers started toward the front.

If I was going to make a NASCAR game it would have...
*Free agency
*Ability to change sponsors
*Development drivers
*Everything from the East/West series on up

I picked up the game today as well. I have gotten to play it for about an hour so far, and have enjoyed it. I hope they put out an update soon that maybe updates some of the features to this year as opposed to last year. However, that is my only gripe at this point.

I am having trouble holding in the draft...I guess I can't "see the air" lol. The draft aspect is really cool tho.

Another aspect I really like is the victroy celebration. Getting to do burnouts was fun.

On a side note, I won as Gordon and there was no backflip as someone mentioned earlier with kahne. Personally, I think Kahne shoulda broke out the purple/pink heart suit and danced for his ;)

Yeah the drafting is taking some getting used to

Driving backwards at Talladega head into the front of the field froze the game:mad:

Interesting cheat, at Infineon since they actually copied real life and didn't put a wall at the hairpin you can cut across the parking lot no penelty:growl:

How does both strike you? They still have Kurt in the deuce with Kurt on the hood and rear quarter panels. Penske is on the rear. It's stuff like that that pi$$es me off too.

There are many glitches to this game that need to be addressed. I've been reading on the official boards that another patch is to be released in the near future, what ever that means.

Some other examples of glitches are.....

Points - Still the old points system. I really thought that the release date was delayed initially because of the late points change by Brian France. Guess not.

Splitter - Wasn't that nixed long ago? It's still there.

Pitting on the left side of pit lane @ Watkins Glen - Are you kidding me? Apparently they didn't have enough time to mirror the animation of the pit crew for the road course to pit the proper side of the car.

I'm going to start taking notes about this stuff while I play so that I can relay this info properly.

Still, all of this being said..... For the first time out by Activision, they've got something good to build on and make much better. I am convinced thought that we will never see the likes of NR2003 by Papy again. They were and remain the 'cream of the crop'.

I can't wait to pick this game up, also if you have a ps3/computer and have some extra money you should really pick up a good wheel, I play with this one and I could never play a racing game again without a good wheel, it makes all the difference in the world...

I always wanted to see that as well. I also would want them to make it so there is actualy more than 43 cars so you actualy have to qualify for the race instead of just skipping to the start of the race and you get to start 43rd.

For me the perfect Nascar game would be you start out racing in like 1990 with all the real drivers and cars from that year. Then as you play through the career drivers, tracks and cars come and go just as they did in real life.

Also as far as I can tell so far missing The Shootout, the duals, and the All-star race.

I was reading on the developers site that they are addressing many of these issues and they'll be corrected in an upcoming patch. Do you remember the days when they used to be able to push games out with very little glitches and the like? It seems like anymore, they rush these things out for real-time beta testing by us paying customers and then release patch after patch. I just hope they get it right. I've been waiting for a decent console NASCAR themed game forever. If this is being published as a 'one and done' venture then I'm afraid that we may end up SOL. I'm still going to have a lot of fun with it but it's those little nuances that make or break these games IMO. :beerbang:

One feature I do like is in career you can change the hardness setting race to race, for example I ran away by 5 seconds at California and Vegas, at Atlanta I changed the AI level and ended up 4th, left it there and finished multiple laps down at Bristol and Martinsville.
