They show that they have an interest in cars, because drifting is very popular with them. I think they are interested in it because, it is cheaper and easier to get involved in, as a participant, than any other form of motorsports right now. A big part of that interest is being able to watch someone compete with the same car you have in your driveway. If they already have the car, with just a little encouragement, they might become a driver. Once you are a driver, you will always be a fan, regardless if you are still driving or not. So the problem, as I see it, is there isn't anything in my driveway (or anyone else') that looks like something you could go compete in right now. It's not the end all answer to this problem, but I think it would help quite a bit. I remember when I first got interested in Nascar. My dad had a '63 Galaxy 500, just like Fred Lorenzen's. I thought, "With his car, I could do that too." By the time I found out I couldn't, I was hooked.
