NASCAR Loop Data

Fascinating stuff. Thanks for sharing I had no idea this existed.

The 78 has been passed 2600 times? Texas is the only time I can remember it happening..

Just kidding of course but that's very surprising to me.

Loop data can be useful in a lot of ways, but much more so in individual driver running/average statistics than pure passing stats. Being a few inches behind a guy at loop five at Daytona and then inching ahead of him by loop six counts as a "pass". Leading the race and being the first guy to pit under a green pit cycle will show that you were "passed" by twenty cars. Average running position? Driver rating? Laps spent inside the Top 15? Useful stuff. But by nature the passing stats don't really give you a clear picture of what really happened on the track.

How the **** do you know all this ****? You're like a walking wikipedia. lol

and the guy in 8th can't secure a competitive ride for next year. things that make you go "hmmmmm....."

Rank
Car Driver Points Position Avg. Rating
1 78 Martin Truex Jr 1 115.7
2 18 Kyle Busch 2 108.5
3 4 Kevin Harvick 3 102.5
4 42 Kyle Larson 10 101.9
5 2 Brad Keselowski 4 96.5
6 24 Chase Elliott 7 95.7
7 11 Denny Hamlin 5 94.2
8 20 Matt Kenseth 9 92.3

It's actually really interesting to see how the current 8 playoff guys rank near the top of most of those categories. The current 3 drivers that are locked into Homestead are in the top 3 or 4 in a lot of those, that's no coincidence.

I was going to wait for someone else to mention CE's presence near the top of every category. Put a big grin on my face when I saw that. Keep it up young man.

If you got a "hole in 1" in golf, then quit you would be the best golfer in the world. I would think years go into making a great drivers record, not just a couple of fast seasons. Just saying, the law of averages bites them all.

Everything you said is correct, except these aren't career averages. They're 2017 season metrics.

The three drivers locked in are the three best drivers this year.... that's a good note.

It would be ironic as hell if Kevin Harvick won the championship, seeing as he should've won the last two but a rule exemption allowed Kyle Busch to win one and the format didn't work out for Harvick last year.

Ya gotta give some naysayers credit for perseverance in their endeavor to unsuccessfully bash Chase Elliott. :D:D

Some people can't separate their dislike for someone from an honest assessment of their ability. I dislike Kyle Busch. Dislike him VERY much. Doesn't mean he isn't one of the most talented drivers to ever get into a stockcar. To think anything else would be delusional.

I'll definitely be rooting for Harv to win it if Chase doesn't make it in.

Is there any Loop Data for racing-forums.com, I wonder?

I'd love to see where and how quickly the whine meter pegs when #78 takes the lead during a race :)

a new member CornWhitt posted it. cool

I didn't post the outdated link.

I posted the loop data tweet since this is a loop data thread. Other message boards I frequent are adamant that new threads not be started if the topic already has a thread.

It was in answer to "somehow the thread got resurrected"

I gotcha. My bad for the confusion with the bump of an old thread.

I can embed tweets like this in the weekly race thread. I saw some posts last week about wanting to see loop data, and I have it, so I figured I'd share.

I think you did it right the first time, and yeah checking to see a thread already started is the thing to do IMO.
