NASCAR Most Popular Driver Award

Danica in fifth and Jimmie in sixth tells me that the majority of NASCAR's fan base is older. I get that there are a lot of Earnhardt fans on here but this isn't good.

The greatest driver in a generation who will probably win eight championships can't even get out of Earnhardt's shadows because there aren't any new fans who appreciate and respect Johnson.

NASCAR isn't attracting new fans, even with Danica and an infusion of young talent coming in the sport. The sport is in serious trouble. Earnhardt Jr won't be around another five years and Earnhardt Sr fans won't be around in 10-20 years. Half of them will turn their back on NASCAR when Jr retires. And there aren't any new fans to fill that void.
The majority of those who voted, perhaps. I didn't.

1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

You have a right to your opinion, but you are way off base, IMO...

I don't see Jr retiring in 5 years.... He even said he plans to race well into his 50's......His claim to fame will probably be beating Petty's number of total starts.

It's just a popularity contest. It really has little to do with on track achievements. JJ isn't popular now because he's too good. nascar fans have never liked a driver that wins too much.

Really, I think you're reading way too much into this.

LAS VEGAS — An unsuspecting Tony Stewart showed up for an awards luncheon Thursday in Las Vegas and was stunned when his name was called for one of NASCAR's most prestigious awards — an honor voted on by his occasional foes in the media, at that.

Stewart, who missed the final 15 races of the season while recovering from a badly broken leg, was given the Myers Brothers Award by the National Motorsports Press Association for his contributions to NASCAR, including his role in hosting a Camping World Truck Series race at his Eldora Speedway dirt track in July.

$35.00 ? Couldn't we raise that here and get Andy a membership? He knows more about popularity than those idiots.:D

And in other related shocking news, driver of the JR Motorsports #7 Regan Smith was voted MPD in the NNS :)

This poll/award is essentially meaningless, but yeah, I'm shocked (and if anything, pleasantly surprised) that Kasey Kahne came in second. I never liked him all that much until I started paying more attention to him this year. He's a good driver that drives hard but squeaky clean and generally isn't a complete jerk. I do feel like every now and then he can come across as a bit of a sore loser, but I'd be a little salty too if I came so close to winning and didn't get there, especially if I felt like I had the fastest car that day. He's one that I'll likely be pulling for next year.

Other than the fact that a few annoying fangirls and soccer moms have an unhealthy obssession with him, what's not to like?
