I will be attending my first ever nascar event at the Daytona 500 february 2013.As a complete novice I would like some advice as to where I need to be at the track which area, box or tower posistion ETC.Cost of tickets is not so much of an issue but I do want value for money.Any and all comments would be welcome. Many thanks

I love the name! Welcome!

I have never been to Daytona but I have been to hundreds of races and I can tell you this:
Wear comfortable shoes.
Take earplugs or a get scanner.
Take sunscreen.
Take cash for food, beer, souvenirs, etc.
Take MORE cash.
Leave extra time so that you are not late.
Write down the parking area where you parked your car.
Remember your tickets on race day.
ENJOY!!

Welcome to the forum. Don't get many from across the pond. :)

I prefer Earnhardt Tower myself. Theater type seating, plus adequate leg room --- you don't get your feet smashed by others trying to get to their seat or to the aisle. Be sure to get into the infield, also.

Welcome to the forum Picklestabber , you won't be disappointed with Daytona . It is an awesome event . As a general rule , the higher you get in the stands , the more you can see. If you are down low , you will get the full effect of the roar of the cars as they pass , but you won't be able to see them when they are on the other side of the track . You might also want to be in the front stretch area so you can see the activity in the pits and the pit stops .Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forums. I wish I could help you with Daytona but I've never had the opportunity to go there, yet. If I were going there for my first time, I'd be looking to sit just past the start/finish as high as possible for the best view of the entire track/pits. Someone here will probably be able to give you some good advice.

One thing to remember, they don't call them "grand stands" for nothing. Be prepared to stand for the entire race. I sat in the Super Stretch (back stretch) the race I attended. The track is of course very big so at times the racing is far far away. I would imagine that seats that allow the fan to see the pits and front stretch are better, but as I said, I've only been there once and that was good enough for me.

Pretty simple at Daytona, get tickets that are as high and as close to the Start/Finish line as possible. You want to go with Tower seats to get your sightline above the pits and see the action coming out of two and down the backstraight.
I also prefer tickets on the turn four side of the start/finish line there can be Alot of action entering the pits and battleing for the checkered. Be ready to pay $20-40 for parking and stay away from the shuttle service.

Most of all Have Fun!

Hey! Keep em coming.Sounds great. What have i been missing all these years.Thank for the info on Fender Bumper but I bet he says the same about you.

He might Picklestabber , but most of us have him blocked and wouldn't know. Where do you live ,are you flying or driving , do you have accomodation arranged?

I actually live in the UK but im in florida a lot on business .Never been able to arrange it in february before though, always a big tv watcher.Havent organised any accomodation yet only my flights into MCO so im open to any and all suggestions.I imagine the hotels can be really steep on or near race days.

:D True story, Atlanta 2002 after the race ( Tony Stewart WON ) my buddy Matt and I walked the parking lots for approx 2hrs looking for MY Blue Yukon then he asked me " Did'nt we drive my truck? " there may have been a lil alcohol involved in our decission making that night.

And Picklestabber , if anyone calling himself Fender Bumper tries to give you any advice or sell you anything ,be very very careful.:D

Ah, payback for the Waltrip quote comment. I can take it.

Welcome picklestabber. I'll take the big green one under that small yellow pickle. ;)

Don't believe Ted. We all know that the economy is too messed up to trust. ;)

Around here, it's like this until race day.

You know, Picklestabber is one cool name, btw.

And no, there is no joke hidden in this remark whatsoever. It really is.

London ? I've been to Daytona several times , loved it . Try VRBO.com , we always have good luck there.

As opposed to renting a hotel room, you may want to consider renting an RV and just staying on the grounds. I know that there are companies that will deliver, set-up and retrieve your RV at the track in California. I'll bet that the same service is available in Florida, too.

BTW, Speedweeks is two full weeks of racing with everything from bikes to the 24-hour Rolex race to a sh!t-load of NASCAR stuff. Depending on how much time you are planning on devoting to this adventure, there is much more than just the 500 to consider!!

I missed the part where you mentioned being from the UK, my long long time girlfreind is originaly from White Chapel it's taken me Years to teach her to speak respectible English ;)

There's also a pretty good race in July at Daytona if your stateside during that time period.

Welcome Picklestabber. I go to Daytona twice a year. The frontstretch and high up as you can get so you can see all or most of the track. It's a great time and you'll love it. No matter where the cars are at your seat still shakes. Welcome to the forum. They've warned you about FenderBumper already so you should be set.

Oh man, I hope I don't post here while drunk. I woke up banned from an MSU site and had no idea what I'd done. Turns out that they didn't appreciate me posting a lovely video known as "2 girls, 1 cup"

I saw that video. You deserved to be banned for posting it, Matt!! LOL
After viewing that video, I will never, ever, be able to eat butterscotch pudding again!

What's a few beers?
A "few" beers in Europe is like a 12-pack in the States!

I must admit some of the stuff you guys call beer isnt all that great, but as my old grandad used to say. "There is no such thing as bad beer, just some better than others"

The main stream beers sold by Bud and Miller are weak pilsners. But we also have a thriving micro-brew market with some outstanding hand crafted brews that are between 8% and 11% alcohol.

The attached pic is from a small restaurant near where I work. Incredible beer and food.

I can drink alot of different brands but most German and Mexican beer I cannot. Although I have a couple of German friends who brew some excellent beverages. Dry-cured sausage and malt beer - good times indeed.
