The premise of the game is simple.
Each week, each player picks a driver for that week's race. Points are awarded to each player based upon where his pick for that week finished.
1st place finish = 1 point . . . . 40th place finish = 40 points, with all finishes in between awarded appropriately.
The game's season championship is awarded to the player that has the fewest points after the 36th and final points race.
What makes the game challenging is that a player may pick a particular driver for one, and only one, race during the course of the season.

That's the short version.

Official rules:
1 - Each week, each player picks a driver for that week's race.
2 - Picks must be made by noon Saturday, Central time, via private message to me (pjmolo). An initial pick may be changed provided the change is made prior to that week's deadline.
3 - After the noon Saturday deadline, the players' picks are official and will be made public by way of a post to the board prior to the beginning of that week's race.
4 - After a player picks a driver, that player cannot pick that same driver again for the remainder of the season.
5 - A player will be dropped from the game following his failure to make a pick (NO PICK) for four races.
6 - If a player does not make a pick, picks a driver who does not start the race, or picks a driver that he previously used, the player will be awarded 41 points for that week.
7- Only the 36 points paying races are included in the game, meaning races such the Clash, the Daytona Duels, the Showdown, and the All-Star Race are not included.
8 - For each race, players will be awarded the number of points equal to the finishing position of their pick for that race.
9 - The awarding of points will be based upon NASCAR's official race results. Any attempt to initiate a "Chase" points reset at any point during the season will cause the game to self-destruct immediately.
10 - The game champion will be determined by the player with the lowest amount of points after the 36th and final points race. In the event of a season points tie, the game champion will be awarded to the player with the most "1st place" picks, then the most "2nd place" picks, etc. until a champion is decided.
11 - There is no restriction as to the number of players allowed to participate in the game. Because there is no restriction as to the number of players, there is no need to officially register. Simply make a pick each week to be included.
12 - Keeping in mind that a player will be dropped from the game after making a "NO PICK" for four races, the deadline to begin participating in the game has been established as the fourth race of the season (Phoenix). Any player that doesn't make a pick until the fourth race will be awarded 41 points for the first three races and will be dropped from the game if another "NO PICK" is made during the remainder of the season.

Good luck and Happy Motoring !!!

Awesome thanks for doing this...and I really like some of key changes you made!

I like the later deadline and the unlimited number of entries. I am on board!

Just checking one detail... the 5 point spread between the winner and second place in Nascar's points scale is NOT used in the game? And the equal score Nascar gives to 36th through 40th is also NOT used?

I liked the Thursday noon deadline. Picking before practice and qualifying made it more interesting to me. I know that a couple of members bitched to the game manager about it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess. Of course I'll still play but I liked it the way it was. That's my opinion so like it or lump it.

NASCAR points don't apply at all. 1 point per position, 1 through 40.

Best game on the board. Play.

You can always use the old deadline as your own personal deadline and whatever happens happens ;)

It was fine the way it was. With the changes it's just another game like a lot of others.

Is there a discussion of stratgy somewhere, or any tips to offer? With my frequent rants against flat points scales, Hot Shoe Racing would be at a disadvantage in this endeavor. We'd need to hire a dedicated engineer and competition director, and sponsorship is tight.

I don't aid my competitors at the professional level. You're a bright boy, you'll figure it out.

Hint ... there aren't 36 front-running shoes available.

Really? So because picks aren't due till Saturday, this game has suddenly gone to ****?

Also, The Thursday thing was a bit short I felt. It was early Thursday morning for folks like me. I don't know about you, but race weekend is a long ways off my radar on a Thursday morning. It was never that big of a deal but the change is nice IMO.

Really? So because picks aren't due till Saturday, this game has suddenly gone to sh!t?
No. But two or three pressuring for changes that most didn't agree with is a bit one sided. Little squeaky wheels get the grease.

I rest my case.

Are you accusing me of crying to Kevin about his deadline? You could have quoted my whole post ya know.....

NEWS FLASH . . .

Upon reading comments regarding changes made to this year's NASCAR Pick 'Em game, the game's Rules Committee has now realized that the concept of "unintended consequences" occurred as a result of one particular change.

In moving the driver pick deadline from Thursday to Saturday, the idea was simply to allow players more time to get their picks in, thereby reducing the number of times that any given player went without a pick, the intent being to reduce the number of players being removed from the game due to their failure to make a timely pick.

However, it's been brought to the Committee's attention that the change in the pick deadline fundamentally changes a certain aspect of the game in that with a Saturday deadline, a player will most likely be able to review practice and qualifying results prior to making a pick, as opposed to just going with driver history or a player's gut instinct.

That certainly wasn't the intent of the deadline change.

Consequently, after careful deliberation, the Rules Committee has now established the driver pick deadline as the Friday before race day, noon Eastern time.

The change, when compared to last year's rules, gives players one extra day to make their pick, thereby hopefully reducing the number of times a given player fails to make a pick.

The change, when compared to the Saturday deadline, also gives the game's recorder and poster of picks one extra day to get his $hit in order, especially important for Saturday night races.

Also, more often than not, picks will have to be made prior to the results of practice and qualifying being known.

Finally, game management makes the following request:

When a player submits his first pick of the season via private message, the title of the message should read "NASCAR Pick 'Em 2017." The message should read, "Name of Race Location - Driver Pick."

Upon receipt of the pick, a response to the message will be made that confirms the pick.

When a player makes his next pick, he should make it using the same conversation as his previous pick, thereby keeping the conversations in management's inbox to a minimum.

Updated Official Rules:

1 - Each week, each player picks a driver for that week's race.
2 - Picks must be made by the Friday before race day, noon Eastern time, via private message to me (pjmolo). An initial pick may be changed provided the change is made prior to that week's deadline.
3 - The title of the private message should read "NASCAR Pick 'Em 2017." The message should read, "Name of Race Location - Driver Pick." Following confirmation of the pick, a player's subsequent picks should be made using the same conversation.
4 - After the noon Friday deadline, players' picks are official and will be made public by way of a post to the board prior to the beginning of that week's race.
5 - After a player picks a driver, that player cannot pick that same driver again for the remainder of the season.

7 - If a player does not make a pick, picks a driver that does not start the race, or picks a driver that was previously used, the player will be awarded 41 points for that week.
8 - If a player picks a driver that does not start the race or picks a driver that was previously used, it will not count as a "NO PICK."
9- Only the 36 points paying races are included in the game, meaning races such the Clash, the Daytona Duels, the Showdown, and the All-Star Race are not included.

@LewTheShoe some people like to save some marquee drivers for the end, some like to just try and get the most points for the race hand given their stable of drivers.

uh ohs...friday dead line? so if you didnt make a pick u r SOL for the 500?

Squeak Squeak Squeak Squeak Squeak Squeak Squeak aaahhh

A little grease works wonders. :D

Yeah all this complaining about people 'squeaking' and the only one who bitched until something was changed was you. Squeak squeak squeak.

Unofficially, there have been about a dozen posters who have expressed interest in the game and several that have already made their pick for the Daytona 500.

Obviously, the more the merrier, so don't wait until it's too late, boys and girls.

The deadline for the 500 pick is Friday the 24th, noon Eastern time.

And the absolute last chance to join the game is Friday, March 17th (St. Paddy's day), but if you wait until then you'll be in a big hole from the git-go.

For those unfamiliar with the game, the Official Rules were previously posted in this thread.
