NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Charlotte race thread

Horsepower. And I honestly feel that nascar has (or will) turn a blind eye, because they really want a 4 time champ.

I heard they hired Stevie Wonder to start doing the post-race inspections on the #48 car.

They say bif is mad at the 12. Looked to me like biff pushed the 12 up, he bounced off the wall and back into biff. Wasn't stremme's fault (for a change)

It looked like to that Newman got Biff in the LR too.

Wow, that was some race between Jeff and Jimmie while it lasted.

Johnson wins again...is anyone as apathetic as me about it?

I mean it was a good race, but, yawn.

I'm more apathetic to the *****ing from people about Jimmie winning. Face it, he's a very talented driver, with a great crew chief, and a great team. The Jimmie hate fest is getting old.

Everyone but JJ is out of it. Wonder if Nascar will change it up when JJ has it locked up 2 races ahead of the end?

Jimmie Joe has talent, but I wouldn't call a crew chief who cheats on a regular basis great. :)
I don't know Jimmie, so I can't like or dislike him. LOL

He wins because Nascar lets him play outside the rules.

Ok, when was the last time he has broken the rules. Notice I said broken, so that whole debacle about his car coming close to the tolerance doesn't count, because you can still come close to the line without crossing it, which is legal.

That team has cheated before to the point of having the crew chief suspended.
No matter; next week is Martinsville, where Mr. Perfect will get his comeuppance.

I'll laugh my ass off if he wins that track too.

He has been caught cheating several times and Nascar has NEVER took away points. Anyone else and they get points took away but NEVER JJ.

Do you really think that one car can be half a second faster than everyone EVERY week and still be legal when the crew chief has a well known history of cheating?

Of course JJ win win at Martinsville because it's also "his house" Pretty much every track is his house these days. Just look at the stands during a race, his winning so much is killing Nascar.

You're overreaching there. There is an economy that's in the toilet. I think that has more to do with the stands being less than full than Jimmie Johnson being the dominate car in the chase.

Wrong.

#48 Team: On March 22, 2005, the National Stock Car Racing Commission heard and considered the Appeal of Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus concerning three penalties assessed by NASCAR relative to the #48 car following the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 13, 2005. The infractions concerned Section 12-4-A of the NASCAR Rule Book “Actions detrimental to stock car racing” and Section 12-4-Q “Any determination by NASCAR Officials that the car, car parts, components, and/or equipment used in the Event do not conform to NASCAR rules: roof height too low in post-race inspection.”

The penalties assessed were:
• Loss of 25 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Championship Car Owner Points for car owner Jeff Gordon.
• Loss of 25 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Championship Driver Points for Jimmie Johnson.
• $35,000.00 fine and suspension from NASCAR until April 6, 2005 and suspension from the next two (2) NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races for crew chief Chad Knaus.

#24, #48 Teams Penalized For Infractions At Infineon Raceway: NASCAR has issued penalties and fines to the #24 and #48 Hendrick Motorsports teams that compete in the Nextel Cup Series, as a result of rule infractions found this past weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Both cars – the #24 driven by Jeff Gordon and the #48 driven by Jimmie Johnson – were found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); 20-2.1E (parts or components of the car not previously approved by NASCAR that have been installed or modified to enhance aerodynamic performance will not be permitted); and 20-2H (fenders may not be cut or altered except for wheel or tire clearance which must be approved by the Series Director) of the 2007 NASCAR rule book. The violations were found during the initial inspection process last Friday. As a result, Gordon and Johnson have each been penalized 100 driver championship points. Their respective crew chiefs – Steve Letarte and Chad Knaus – have each been fined $100,000, suspended for the next six Nextel Cup Series events until Aug. 15, 2007 and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2007. In addition, Rick Hendrick, owner of the #24, has been penalized 100 car owner championship points as has Gordon, who is the owner of the #48.(NASCAR PR)(6-26-2007)

Johnson is a pretty darn good driver but I am not ready to hand him the Championship. I still think Jeff Gordon will be a force to be reckoned with. Martin, i'm not sure about. Tony could still put on a run.

Remember, there are still 5 races to go.

Yes, it is a very talented team, but it gets old. And with the way Nascar is covered (and has been for the last 10 or so years), it's almost as much about the peronalities as it is about the race. And Jimmie has none.

It's no so much a hate fest, it's more about a "nobody cares" fest. Like someone else said on the board, Jimmie's to nice to hate, but to bland and vanilla to really get behind and cheer.

Four in a row would be a great feat, but with someone like Jimmie, there's just no interest.

(oh, and speaking oh hate fests getting old, the same can be said of the Jr hate fest that you tend to carry on with...)

I watched the last 30 or so laps last night and that was some good racing and an exciting finish. Charlottle has always been one of my favorite (non-short track) tracks. There always seems to be several different lines guys can run and there is a lot of passing and just good racing. It was nice to see Jeff Gordon challenging for the lead toward the end too.

Surprised no one has bashed Rick Hendrick yet and brought up his problems with the law. :D

You just did, brought up his problems with the law! why?

Because it was bound to come up eventually with all this talk of cheating. The Hendrick haters like to dredge up past violations and fines in order to cast a shadow over the organization.

I brought it up in jest but obviously you didn't see that.

Johnson and his crew have gotten where they are now through hard work and ingenuity. Until it is proved otherwise, all this talk about cheating or getting away with something is meaningless.

Well, we may not agree on politics, but on this we do agree.

Anytime you're in Concord, NC, I'll buy you a beer, and we can talk racing.

:beerbang:

It doesn't matter what the venue...... dirt, late models, NASCAR, NHRA, whatever, if one team is winnin, someone is gonna cry foul..... And since the second car was created, someone has pushed the envelope of legal..... and a few have gone over that limit. Sad truth is, it is a natural reaction, if they get outran, or their driver gets outran....... somebody is gonna point fingers. Even the King was caught cheatin...... an oversized engine and improper tires. Maurice ( his crew chief) excuse...... well, everybody else is doin it, so it was the only way we could win.......
the fact is this....... Hendrick has their stuff together.... look at the points, first, second and third... they have won nearly half the races this year. either they are goin to get caught, or the other teams need to step up....... either way, it ain't cheatin till ya get caught.....
