NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Dover

The word "great" sure gets overused in Nascar. I guy that finishes tenth will be said to have a "great" run...how do they describe the guy who won???

Congrats to Jimmie & Rick Hendrick on another one. Hendrick Motorsports has now been to victorylane 5 str8 outings if you include the Winston Open that Jr won. Probably already been said but man the way Jimmie has been runnin as of late, he may catch & pass Jeff Gordon on the win list, I mean I know he's still like 30 or so wins behind but let's say he wins 2 or 3 more this year and then 5 more next season & the season after that etc. Jeff Gordon don't seem like he's going to have anymore 2-plus victory multi win season's, as much as it pains me to say this he may be close to done. I'd have never even thought of those words say 13 or so years ago but it just seems like his time has past call it bad luck or what have you. When he first started out, Jeff Gordon said he would retire at 40 years old because he didn't want to be like all the old drivers who were around when he first started out back in 93. Well he's now past 40 & still driving, why? He has more money than anyone who's ever raced in NASCAR, damn near anyone who's ever sat in a racecar. For the love of the sport? Because he likes to race, I don't know. I can't even imagine someone else sitting in that 24 car after all these years but man for those of us who were watching when he was in his prime, it's just tough to see him out there now struggling soo much.

I really think that Gordon was thinking of retiring a couple of years ago when his back was bothering him so bad...but last season when he turned 40, he was extremely competitive and putting up good numbers. Heck, by this point in last season he was getting ready to win his second of the season. I think a lot of what has happened to Gordon is just bad racing luck, if their is such a thing. Countless times this season he has had a fast car, capable of a solid finish, and been hit with something that no one could control.

It really pains me to even think of him retiring, considering he is the only driver that has ever been my favorite in NASCAR...but I do think he is in the twilight of his career and that it will end within the next 5 years...

With the 5 championships in a row, some forget that JJ has 55 wins in the last 10 full seasons. Nobody else even comes close in that time frame. He is 37, so I don't know about reaching 100. I doubt Chad would stay on the box past his present 5 year contract.

As good as Gordon was running today, he had nuthin' for the 48.

Jimmie-Chad could easily win 8 Championships if they stay together long enough.
Hell, they are probably the favorites to get Number 6 THIS year!
And 100 wins? Certainly within the realm of possibility.
Consider: He has won 57 races in 376 starts. That's over 15%
He needs 43 wins to reach 100.
If he maintains a 15% success rate (5.4 wins) it would take 287 starts for him to reach 100 wins.
That's 8 years and he's, what, 37?

Now, can he maintain that 15% success rate? Will he drive till he's 45?
hmmmmm...

Did you not notice that the 24 caught the 48 from 14th place, passed him then checked out on him by several seconds? Did you not notice that the 24 was still faster than the 48 even on 30 lap older tires? Did you not hear JJ state post race that the 24 was faster? Had the 24 team not left a tire loose we'd be talking about Jeff being up to 17th in points and having 86 wins.

Hate to come at you like that but facts need to rear their head at some point in this stupid thread.

Too many times I have seen Chadski do something which seems other-worldly.
I do recall hearing Jimmie say that but we also know how things change when there are still several pit stops to go...
Don't get me wrong. I would love to see Gordo win again! I'm a big fan of the 24.

The FACT is that will we never know what may have happened had Gordon not had a pit road mistake.

Bowyer may have moved the #24 & #48 and taken the checkered flag himsef. Who knows.

That's not a good crowd. :(

Unless FOX is only zooming in on the empty seats... looks like a full house when they're zoomed out.

I said this in the rate a race thread but as someone who attends at least 1 Dover cup race every season, the crowds have gotten worse and worse with every race. It's a bad trend but I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing on Fox concluded its 2012 campaign with a 3.6/9 on Sunday afternoon for the Fedex 400 from Dover, off -5% from last year's 3.8/9 for the comparable race from Kansas. NASCAR Sprint Cup Racing on FOX finishes up with a 4.2/9 metered market rating for the season, off -5% from last year's average of a 4.4/10. NASCAR on Fox was down -8% in the metered markets for the first five races of the season, then flat for the eight races thereafter.

When Andy and the rest of the doom and gloom folks state as a fact that the Nascar fan base is disappearing , and the aero push is making passing impossible , and so on , it's always good to see the real figures which prove that their 'facts ' are not a true representation of what is happening.
