I saw that after I posted earlier. That is interesting.
 
This is great. I would love to see all the one plus mile tracks do this (with the exception Darlington, Dover and the Road Courses).
 
Just saw this as I am eating lunch at work here. Wow this is incredibly great news, Cali was racing fine the last few years there but I Think the sweet spot is 6 short track races on the schedule and this development will be greatly welcomed. I cant believe there are actually people complaining about this on the social media sites, it seems NASCAR or its tracks cant do anything right. I think this is a great decision and am really excited, I can just see the Fox Graphic now "Short Track racing in Cali". The same Wilkesboro people that said it would cost too much to rebuild that track, I wonder how much this project will cost but thats the only complaint I can see actually being a made case for. I am very excited for this decision, A+ decision. At the same time, I am worried about my home track of Chicago, I really hope they make the schedule next year.... I was hoping that track would be made into a short track.

Bristol has been parking inside since forever
 
irwindale and kern are both great 1/2 mile tracks,but they dont have the seating.if i had my choice i would love to see a cool road course,they have allot of land there.i still miss riverside.

Yeah but aren't you one who likes tradition? The Daytona 500 is one of, if not the biggest tradition in NASCAR. You can ask for less races on them tracks, but to get rid of Daytona is just, not right.

The cars are safer than they were before the plates.
Cali was great racing in 2018 before they neutered the cars.
If you’re gonna change the cars then change the tracks. I believe that’s the motivation behind the ACS reconfiguration. I remember 211 into turn one at Cali. If ACS is outdated then Daytona and Talladega must be also.

It was actually 221 into turn one at ACS. I remember Kurt going 217 into 3 on the bottom :oops:

We've run more Daytona 500s since the introduction of the restrictor plate than we did before it. At this point, plates are the tradition.

And there's no guarantee that extremely high speeds guarantee good racing. Get rid of the plates and the cars could become strung out. Until the pavement wore, Auto Club was always good for some of the most boring racing on the planet
 
I'm a little torn. Prior to the "package" I really enjoyed the high speed multi lane track at california. The low hp package killed the racing at this track for me, and I'd rather see another short track than watch them bump up against a wall of air all day.
 
I’m not looking for an argument.
IMO, plate racing sucks.
Like I said, we’ll see how this experiment pans out.
 
There hasn't been much difference in whatever setup they run at Auto Club statiscally over the years. But the R-F experts can tell 7 MPH difference. They used to throw cautions for balloons , pieces of tape, cozies, to try to keep the field bunched up
 


Maybe down the road we will get a video of Cookie Cutter to Short tracks.. :)

Its 2020 and I am still frustrated as I was back then when NASCAR and Bruton Smith were trying to make every darn track into a Cookie Cutter. We almost got one in Staten Island.

For those who think the money should have been spent on the two abandoned NC tracks, those are in the boonies. They're not within easy hour of several million people in a top 3 television market.

I like the notion of a banked 1/2 mile better than the current configuration but yeah, I would have preferred a banked 1.017-mile oval with a slight dogleg on the front stretch, paved as abrasively as possible.

Once again 2020 happens, didnt see this one coming, but ok, can't complain about getting another short track.

well if I may.... Kentucky I've been to was in the boonies ( stayed in Louisville which was about 1 hr away), Chicagoland is in Elwood not Joliet which has 80 close by but nothing else except two gas stations ,liquor stores and Amazon warehouses, Bristol is in the middle of nowhere well except a few miles down there are restaurants and gas stations but the nearest hotel we stayed at was Johnson City TN ( race day about 30 min away). I think its awesome that there is going to be a short track in a top 3 largest TV market and on the west coast to boot, im very excited. But most of these tracks are in the middle of nowhere, if Wilkesboro or The Rock were on the schedule I'd probably just stay in Charlotte and drive to them. But thats me I get its not for everyone. Plus also NASCAR doesnt own Wilkes or the Rock, I think they own Fontana so hence this is why this is happening. Now Im praying Chicagoland becomes a Richmond clone when its their turn to repave.
