NASCAR to let teams regulate lug nuts during pit stops in 2015

Any thoughts? I don't like it and I am surprised that given how picky NASCAR as about most things regarding safety (except safer barriers of course), I'm surprised that they are going in this direction.

It will probably last until the first tire breaks lose from a car, jumps the catch fence and hits a spectator.
Really ? You think that Nascar is more interested in driver safety than the raceteams are ? I don't think that any team will intentionally put their driver at risk.

I'm wondering what the reason is behind the rule change.
Another reason is possibly just the safety of the officials. It seems every year we have crew members and/or officials getting hit by a car. Most of those collisions are pretty minor but it doesn't take much to seriously injure or kill somebody out there. Having just a few less people on an active pit road makes the place less crowded and more safe for everybody. I think this is a good proactive effort on NASCAR's part to cut the costs involved, make is safer and also be more consistent with all the teams.

By the way , welcome to the forum Harris , I missed some of your ealier posts . I agree that safety of the officials was likely the main reason , as they have been removed in favor of the new computer system . They didn't have them counting lugnuts back in the day , and things seem to work out ok. For that matter , we've seen a lot of screw ups when divers have been forced back into the pts for a missing lug nut , but it was an incorrect call and there was none missing . We've also seen drivers bring their car to pit road for a vibration and the crew found a loose lug nut , not Nascar .

I can't recall a official being hit on pit road. A pro active stance? By nascar?

I know DW is spending sleepless nights just waiting to sing ''YOU'VE FIXED A FIND TIME TO LEAVE ME LOOSE WHEEL....
At that time I feel it would be justifiable to throw him out of the booth and down the stairs....
