NASCAR's Inconsistencies

Skoal, you're just piling on, ranting because you may not like certain decisions. Fantasy, my ass. And Nascar just a couple weeks ago admitted they bungled a call on a restart. If you want hockey, go watch hockey.

I believe what I have said to be true and base it upon what I have seen for many years and I suspect many others feel the same way too but regardless I stand by my words. If Nascar racing is one's barometer of what a sporting event is I can see where there could be confusion though. I do feel that Nascar has elements of sport as winners and losers are declared, I do feel that Nascar has elements of WWE style entertainment with race management and I do feel that Nascar has fantasy by using the lottery method to crown a champ. If you feel differently that is AOK.

Since you brought up hockey the finals started yesterday and while I have no real dog in the fight I am enjoying things. On one hand I would love to have the Pens win and see Phil Kessel hoist the cup but on the other I would really like to see the Sharks win and Thornton, Polak and Reimer have their names inscribed on Lord Stanley's mug.

Kids are so hung up on the need for rulings to be consistantly. Sports need judgement calls to keep things interesting . Computer games are so stupidly consistant .
It's called the human element and some people have no understanding of this concept.
Screw judgement calls. I said I couldn't do anything about inconsistencies and wouldn't worry about them. I didn't say I liked them and I certainly don't appreciate them.

Personally, I love when a pitcher loses a perfect game because the 1B ump ruled the runner was safe when replay clearly shows he was out. Replay really detracts from sport.

Excellent point. Sports survived for decades before instant replay. The sad thing is, replay in sports such as football, have arguably convoluted and jacked up decision making more so than human error ever has.
Sports survived without a lot of technological advances. That doesn't mean they shouldn't incorporate them. They've accepted many others - better performing equipment, safety innovations, and rule and officiating changes that take those other innovations into account.

As far as motorsports go, replay is just a moving version of the photo finish cameras, a visual interpretation of the scoring loops under the track and pit road. Why not use it? As to other sports, it's not different from the 'Cyclops' system used in tennis, the hundredths-of-a-second shot clock in basketball, the goal buzzer used in hockey and soccer, the foul poles in baseball, or the regularly lengthened goal posts in football. They're all changes made to make officiating more accurate and consistent.
