NASCAR's "Overtime"

...and yet Austin gets crucified for the exact same thing
:idunno:

See.. there's always a complaint angle. I personally am happy with the sport. Could use some better finishes for my driver but that's different lol

I agree with you. No matter what people are going to have an issue with. It is definitely not full proof no matter what they do. They could throw a red, but the minute someone blows an engine on a restart there would be complaints, they could not count yellows, but fuel is a factor etc. No matter what I will watch every week.

It is kind of a ****** deal to pay your hard earned money and see the culmination of the race come under yellow.
I'm curious to find out why this is so painful for race fans. I have yet to hear the football fans clamoring for games no longer being able to conclude by taking a knee, the baseball fans asking that games only end on balls batted into play, and the basketball fans begging that players not be allowed to dribble out the clock.

Seems to me not being a stick n baller it has been ages since I watched one of them, the terms "sudden death" really nice term there. Shot clock, 2 minute warning, playoffs, instant replay, 3 point shot and probably a half a page more of "gimmicks" as some of the more trollish members like to call the racing format that is somehow curious? or is it just another useless fishing expedition to bring in my stick n ball is better than your racing sport..tiresome. It is really simple, the majority of Nascar fans want it to be that way.

I never said it is painful. In reality it bothered me for roughly 10 minutes and then my life went on. I just think when it comes to racing it feels a little stolen when it ends under yellow. Especially after a long run where it looks like a guy has it in the bag and the. Everyone gets ready for a restart and it ends in the 2nd turn. I think that is more of what feels stolen. When it ends under green it just feels a little better I guess. The basket ball analogy doesn't work because the clock is dribbled out after the game has been decided. As for the other situations maybe it feels a little different because in baseball if it goes extra innings both teams had their shot and the same for Football. Obviously in racing, everyone has a chance throughout the day to get to the front.

Like I said above it doesn't stop me from watching, but nobody pays in hopes of seeing a race end under yellow.

Finishing up under yellow never bothered me which is not to say that a green flag finish wasn't preferable. Finishing under yellow was something that occurred from time to time but it was just a natural part of the series just like a weather related win. The biggest problem for Nascar is they are not smart enough to go through the scenarios of what the unintended consequences could be for the rules they make so they are always playing catch up.

Being raised around the dirt tracks brainwashed me into believing every race must end under green. I am blaming my parents for this serious character flaw and ask that everyone here please understand I can't change.

There's a 12-step program for that. Also, consider suing your parents for child neglect. I'm sure some sleazeball will take the case.

They didn't do that on the dirt track I went to..I remember driving home 40 miles with dirt in my mouth mad as hell because my guy could have one if so in so backmarker didn't blow up and they dropped the yellow. So now I'm suing Nascar for giving me false hope of a fair green finish no matter what happens...Harvick be damned.

Yeah, I would agree that it was something that just used to happen, but in today's NASCAR it feels like the likelihood is higher for it happening more often. Obviously, it doesn't because how often do we really see it? It just really feels sometimes like you can predict the end to races. With 10 to go I literally said "who is going to blow a tire and door the wall?" Then when you put the "best driver's in the world" in a restart situation with a G/W/C someone always seems to blow their wad and run out of talent.

I don't really have an issue seeing the race end under yellow if the participants are given an opportunity to actually race. These cars are so sensitive that it requires the drivers to be absolutely perfect in every aspect, which in the desperate situation that NASCAR has created for guys with the "win and get in" mentality is virtually impossible. So you end up with half a front stretch and 2 turns of action. I would have loved to have seen if Larson could have ran JJ down into 3 and 4 coming to the white. If you need to throw the yelloe to end the race do it at the white. At least they would have completed the race at speed.
