Nationwide at Darlington

If it weren't for the Cup drivers, the Nationwide Series would have folded long ago do to lack of fanbase and underfunding. If I want to watch hacks run into the fence and endure 40 cautions per race then I'll go to my local short track.
Check the grandstands at the next Nationwide event and you'll see what I'm talking about...nobody is wearing a Jason Leffler hat.

That's because there are 15 Cup guys in the race! The series wouldn't of folded because of the lack of Cup guys, it would be just the opposite. It did fine before with the lack of Cup guys, so explain that? And that was as recently as 10 years ago.

He may not of started out nationwide in top notch equipment(7 races in joe nemechek car powered by hendrick) then next seasons in hendrick and gibbs cars.
He started his sprint cup career in hendrick car.
He started his truck career in roush truck
He had 1 race in ARCA in so-so equip. then the rest was hendrick power
I'm sure if you had that type equip. he started in we might be seeing you on TV.

He obviously caught someone's eye before he got in NASCAR. He's had the same opportunity as anyone else out there, the difference is that most of the other guys do not have the talent that Kyle does. I'll use your example; Why isn't Joe Nemechek winning with his Hendrick powered car?

The sport has evolved much in the past 10 years. The fanbase is not the same as it was 10 years ago. Fans don't want to see no-names going around in circles, crashing into each other, they want to see their familiar driver battling for position no matter which series.
IMO, the worst thing that has happened to NASCAR in the past 20 years is Brian France. The sport has changed because Brian France changed it. He's tried to quell the Cup onslaught in the Nationwide series by not allowing the Cup guys to earn points in Nationwide, that's obviously not working. Don't expect that to change though because Brian France is a very greedy man and Nationwide drivers do not sell tickets, nor do the sell much merchandise.

Well if the fans want to see the Cup guys in NW all the time, then explain the growing disdain for just that? I think the NWS could survive, and thrive with just the NW regulars. It would give more up and coming guys a ride, not have all the Cups guys taking those spots, more exposure for the no names. As it is now it is just easy pickings for the big boys, another pay check, it makes the racing predictable, boring most of the time, and really is making a mockery of it. I hope no Nationwide regular wins a race this year, I'd love to hear how France is going to put a positive spin on the "champion" having no wins!

I understand your point of view but I feel that "the growing disdain" is not the majority of fans.

Hmmm maybe... do a poll here and it would be majority or at least it seems that way. I don't know I still at least a limit on Cup guys coming in would be a good thing, I doubt though Nascar will do anything.

Nah, a limit would still mean that C(o)ups guys are in NNW. I say for the 2012 season, ALL drivers need to pick ONE series and that's it. If you pick to race in CUP, then you can't race in NNW or Truck, and vice versa, vice versa. So pick a series and stick with it.

Yes he has talent but that talent has bit him in the ass, IMO if he would settle down and use his head sometimes he might of won a championship or two already and I'm talking sprint cup.

This year will suck IMO they will crown a champ propbably with no wins

and this is the problem with Cup drivers being in NNW. Even under the old system, you had CUP drivers winning championships in NNW. NNW is supposed to be a feeder series INTO the Cup series. This is pretty much the same as Mark McGwire playing MLB and playing in the Minor Leagues as well.

IMO, if you pull the Cup guys out of today's NASCAR NWS the grandstands will be empty. It is what it is now, not what it was then. Fans don't want to see no-names battle. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I, personally would rather watch local dirt sprint cars if it's no-names that I want to see. I think there's only about 6 or 8 guys currently running in the NNW series that even have a shot at ever being competitive in the Cup series. The current NNW series point leader has already proven that he's not a Cup caliber driver. The point leader in the Truck series couldn't make it in Cup. I prefer to watch top notch racecar drivers, regardless of the series. That's why I don't delve into college football; I'd rather watch the best no matter the sport.

The cup drivers are'nt helping sell tickets this year in NWS....The stands are empty at certain tracks...When K.B. was doing his burnouts and then stopped to get the checkerd flag, there were maybe 50 fans in the seats at the start/finishline at last nights race.....Announced attendance was 21,000.....LOL....LOL...LOL....I saw maybe 10-12k ....Friday night at Darlington....SHAMEFUL......

Then why aren't the stands empty at the stand alone events?

If I wanted to watch CUP guys race, guess what, I'd watch CUP!

I have a question for those who are against the Cup drivers being in the NNS. WHO do you root for? Steven Wallace? Michael Annett? Morgan Shepard?

Second question. IF other random Cup drivers were winning these races, would you still be against the cup drivers being in this? Would JR winning change anything? How about Tony Stewart? Kasey Kahne? Just curious.

Third question: If Busch was acting like he did last year when he didn't win, but still winning the majority of races, would that make the race less boring? Or would the conversation just switch the focus to Busch's shenanigan's instead?

It feels like if Busch wins, many posters here automatically rate the race as boring.

Last question: WHAT would have to change regarding the actual racing for you to consider the race no longer boring?

I'd just watch the race, because it USED To be that you'd watch NNS to see who'd have the talent to make it up to Cup.

Nope, because as of right now, it's the CUP drivers that are always running in the top 5, always. That gets boring after awhile, esp. when you're wanting to see the NNW drivers race, not the CUP drivers.

Third question: If Busch was acting like he did last year when he didn't win, but still winning the majority of races, would that make the race less boring? Or would the conversation just switch the focus to Busch's shenanigan's instead?

Nah, my focus would still be on the CUP drivers being in the minor leagues. See, that's why I don't consider man of Busch's wins in NNW to be all that impressive. It'd be like Mark McGwire playing in the Minor leagues and his teams winning all the games. Or it'd be as impressive as the New England Patriots playing against college football teams and winning all their games. It's just not impressive when you're in the Top Tier series and still playing in the Minor league, I'm sorry, it's just not.

It feels like if Busch wins, many posters here automatically rate the race as boring.

That because it is, see my explanation above.

Like I said before, in 2012, force ALL drivers to choose ONE series to race in, that's it, ONE.

The fans don't want no names, the lower series can't survive without Cup drivers, and so on. I hear those arguments all the time, but it begs one question. If lower series full of "no names" are so trivial and unsustainable, why have them in the first place? Based on these arguments, it'd be easier just to run two or three Cup races a weekend. I mean, suppose it was true that the Cup guys are the only ones that matter. What then, is the draw of watching them in a glorified practice session with sub-par competition that nobody cares about?

I just don't think this argument holds water. If it did, no one would think twice about Jack Ingram or Sam Ard. They didn't do squat in cup, but they're locks for the Hall of Fame. Plenty of people went to see them in their day.

When I watch a nationwide race, I root for the nationwide drivers. I keep hoping something happens and all the cup drivers get put out before half way.

Doesn't matter to me what cup driver is winning. They all had their time in nationwide and moved on. Now it's time to let others have their time there.

The way a driver acts isn't what makes a race not boring.

Who wins the race also doesn't make the race boring.
