Nationwide cars at Richmond get Penalties

I don't think that there was any mention of a team by team scale. The seemed to be indicating that it was a Series scale.

I sure hate to start talking about this again but Carl's penalty was in the Cup Series, not Nationwide. Also, you can't really use ignorance as an excuse?

You are right as usual DP . Long was in the Cup series , I was forgetting that. Big boy series ,big boy rules.

Long hasn't been back since ,has he ? Wonder if he ever actually paid the fine ? Not likely he could afford to pay it . Too bad . Rotten deal.

I seem to remember the Carl Long situation having a vendetta element to it. Something about continous clashes between 1 engine builder and NASCAR, and that's who built Carls engine, which never actually raced.

I'll try and look up the whole story.

What I don't understand is no point deduction. The other competitors have to feel burned by this, but it's clearly another case of 'it fit the template'. NASCAR needs to go to a digital template and laser measurements for the entire surface. The areas between the hard points are the problem, and that 95% of the car surface.

I thought that he did race it and NASCAR tore it down after it blew up?

Here's a flashback.....

He finished last in the 35-car field in a qualifying event for Saturday night's All-Star race, dropping out after three laps because of an engine problem.

Long, who also failed to qualify for the season-opening Daytona 500, first had engine trouble during practice last Friday. The team switched engines, and under NASCAR rules, the sanctioning body examined the bad engine.

NASCAR discovered an issue and sent the engine to the Research & Development Center for more tests, which determined the engine exceeded maximum cubic inch displacement specifications.

So yes, it looks like it was a practice engine.

Yes, made by Ernie Elliott. I remember reading that, at that time, NASCAR had a few beefs with Elliotts engines, and frowned upon anyone who used them. The theory was that hitting Carl with such a huge penalty would put pressure on Ernie to conform to what nascar wanted. I can't find the article though, so it's just what I remember being written a few years after the incident.

I don't remember that but if you find the article, please post it, I'd like to read it. Thing is, lot's of theories are simply black helicopters in disguise.

I can't find it. .17 difference in displacement could easily be explained by worn bearing. I can't believe that nascar got away with making this claim on a blown engine.

Exactly. This is something you need to remember. ;)
Damn..... I forgot the Sometimes, prefix. I guess you got me!

lol

Why are you out there while I'm in here? The world is so unfair. *starts building a methane bomb to get even*
I don't think that would be wise. I see that they are starting to let you post before 9am. Things are starting to look like they are going your way. Hold off on that new project. ;)
