I love this track. Christopher Bell's playground....not really, but I just want that out there in the stratosphere to create positivity.

New Hampshire since going to one race has been very underrated. I had a blast when I went in 2020. The first 2 stages of that race were so good.

I can remember going to Bryar Motorsports park in the '70s when I was an older yoot during my Moto cross phase. Once the place started racing Grand National, I tried to attend as much as possible. Yes, the racing was boring at times, but I didn't care because I was there watching it. 30 years of races I've attended there can attest to that...
The Bahre and Smith families have a long history of give and take, but once my September race was canned, alot of us campers were disappointed and stopped attending any races for awhile. But the racing bug is too strong to stay away for any period of time.. Anyway, just might sneak up there for a Saturday viewing as long as it's not too hot...
And it's fun to see who made it through the night at Animal Hill...

Bristol & NHMS should swap races or something like that. I always thought the Fall NHMS races were much better.

Bristol does not belong during college football season & lots of sports fans agree.

Hes the best in the business here, imo, since he's been in Xfinity. He was awesome last year.

Anyone else gonna be there this weekend?

Yes there has been extreme flooding up there. Worst since 2011 with Irene and that was considered to be a 1 in 100 year storm. I am no longer in the area but follow closely. This seems to be similar in destruction but in more limited areas. There are entire towns in Vermont that no longer have access from washed out bridges.

It's a drivers track... hopefully he can get a top 20.

I doubt it, I think Newman is just wanting a check (whether that’s good or bad).

Update: New Hampshire may or may not have been part of his announced races. I thought he was scheduled for 5.

Yes, VT is being devastated and there's no end in sight as rain continues to pound the area.

BUT.... Vermont and New Hampshire are very different states regarding all factors that need to be considered in running this race. First, the geography of NH is quite different than that of VT. All this flooding in VT is from mountain runoff. 90% of the state is mountains. New Hampshire, especially southern NH where the track is, is not as mountainous (and there are other factors that make the area a lot less flood prone I won't go into).

The BIG factor here.... Vermont is the 2nd least populous state. Any kind of rescue/fire/medical/re-building resources for a disaster on this scale need to be brought in from neighboring states. These states are all already dealing with flooding of their own.

I think there is a very real chance NASCAR does not race this weekend. Not saying that's likely, but sucking up 100+ fire/rescue/EMT staff while neighboring states are literally washing away and need all the help they can get is not something I think NASCAR would do to the local area.

Anyway, seems like my favorite Vermont towns of Weston and Ludlow are those hit the hardest. My ski club lodge was in Weston and I spent many many nights there. It was an antique farm house built right on Rt100. You knew it was going to be a good ski day if you woke up in the night hearing the snow plow go by, thundering by like a train.

This is Londonberry. Would always drive through here to get to the ski house in Weston. This ariel shot is showing 60% or so of the town. And it's mostly underwater.

This is Ludlow. Home to a very popular ski resort, Okemo. I would always keep driving on to Killington, Pico, or Sugarbush. But passed through here many times (and skied Okemo dozens of times too, just not usually).

This is all just awful. And it's going to keep getting worse this week. These pictures hurt for sure.

From Thunder Road Speedbowl in Vermont-

from FB
We are heartbroken for our Barre community and everyone in the central/northern Vermont area dealing with the devastation of the historic flooding that has taken place.
While our race track is under water currently, it has survived to brunt of this storm, however, our main offices have been severely compromised by the flooding and are unusable at this time. As many of you know this is a big couple of weeks for our track and not having access to the office is terrible timing.
In addition to all of this, many of the roadways used to get to Thunder Road from all around have been compromised or impassable.
As of today we are still on schedule but we will continue to monitor every bit of information that we receive from the state and local authorities and will update if/when it is necessary.
Please keep the members of our community in your thoughts

Massive week for them with Govenor's Cup on Thursday that has Suarez entered (Brad K ran last year IIRC). Then SRX next week.

NASCAR postponed a Martinsville race in ... '19? Several inches of snow fell the night before. Major roads to the track were clear but the support services were all needed elsewhere.

I had spent the night about an hour away, on my way to Pittsburgh on company business. I was halfway to the track when they called it off. Fortunately, I didn't already have a ticket. I went back to the hotel, packed, and went on to Steel City early.

That is why I posted what I did about the Corps. When they say they are going to let her go, terrible things happen downstream. Creeks back up, ponds overflow. I've lived on the side of a Corps lake for 40 years, bad things happen, many states downstream will be affected.

Softer tire on tap for this weekend.

I don't think that a softer tire is going to change the racing very much. The softer tire might make for more pit stops and that could change up a few things and a lap or two on restarts. The track is short and mostly flat and that makes for single lane it's a grind it out racing. I think Nascar has to have a track like that, some drivers and fans like that sort of a race.

NHMS has variable banking I think so you can run a couple of different grooves, hook the apron on the bottom as well.

Certainly a bit more technical for sure but like you said, we need some of those. The lowest rating in the Gluck poll the last five races there is 73.2 so it seems like enough people enjoy it. Bell had a good charge in the final stage last year, 2018 and 2019 came down to late bump ‘n’ runs.

Yeah it gets even higher ratings in Gluck's poles. Short track bump and run passing is what some fans and drivers like and this car is good for that. I have been told of Goodyear's softer tire a number of times for tracks and there hasn't been much difference that I have seen affecting the racing. N.H. has used resin and track bite to try to widen the track with mixed results. Eh on that too. It's going to be a pretty decent race I think. I wouldn't want a steady diet of that type of track for me anyway but it's a good change up.

Thunder Road cancelled the Governor's Cup race that was going to be Thursday. It's bad up there.
If it clears off and doesn't rain anymore, I think they will be ok, but more rain? That would be not good. The Corp has to discharge to match the inflow. I hope the Dams are in good shape.

NHMS should be decent, but I would like to see the short tracks, dirt tracks & road courses get a 750-850 HP package.

86% Rainy for Friday. Saturday &Sunday look like 50/50 for rain.
I can say this.

I've been going to NH every year since 2004. It seems like, without exaggeration, half the time there's been concerns for rain. 2008, it flat out poured all morning.

Last year? It rained before green.

Not once was the race post poned. That's New England weather for you. Until it actually gets rained out, I'm assuming the weather will subside.

Camped there since '95. Seemed like it rained at least one of the days every year..What a mess the campsites were when it rained.. But, dreaming up activities in the camper was always fun!!
