Goodyear Racing Notes – New Hampshire Motor Speedway​

Goodyear heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend with valuable data in hand, following a July tire test that shaped preparations for NASCAR Cup Series teams at the Loudon, N.H. track.

Christopher Bell (Toyota), Ross Chastain (Chevrolet) and Joey Logano (Ford) participated in the July 22-23 test, providing crucial data for Goodyear ahead of the New England track’s return to the Cup Series Playoffs.

NASCAR Cup Series teams will run the same Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup in New Hampshire that was used earlier this year at Bowman Gray Stadium, Martinsville Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway and Richmond Raceway.

This tire setup was first introduced at Martinsville in November 2024 as Goodyear’s portion of NASCAR’s focused effort to improve short track racing, offering drivers more grip and increased lap-time fall-off. The July test confirmed those characteristics, with Joey Logano noting that Goodyear had “no doubt created falloff” among various different tires tested.

“The tire setup we’re bringing to New Hampshire has performed very well at various tracks this year, including the recent race at Richmond,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “This is the first time that NASCAR Cup Series teams will see this setup at New Hampshire. We introduced this setup to deliver more grip and increased lap-time fall-off over the course of a run and it has certainly met those expectations so far this year.”

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will also compete at New Hampshire on Saturday, making its first appearance at the track since 2017. Teams will use a familiar Goodyear Racing Eagle setup, the same left- and right-side tire setup that has already been run this season at North Wilkesboro, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park and Richmond.

Both series will also have wet-weather tires available if required.

I was disappointed extra tires were given at Bristol

if teams want to burn thru their tires and have nothing left at end of race.... that their choice
who knows if a team was running slower to have an extra set after everyone else burned theirs's up
all went out the window with another set of tires

Giving out an extra set didnt bother me.
The decision was made before the half way point and everyone had the same opportunity to adjust strategies.

If it had only been a couple of cars struggling with having enough tires I would have been opposed to providing an extra set.

Yeah, I didn't want to see anybody having to quit the race because they didn't have tires or even worse having to wade thru all of the whiners all that week on social media.

It would bother me to issue another set if only a few had to retire due to running out of tires. A few would indicate a bad setup or poor tire management.
Running completly out would be drastic to the point of also completly using up all of the previuosly used and remounted tires.

But when everyone is struggling, issuing an additional set should be an obvious need imo. I dont think it created a one sided advantage for anyone, and tire management was still paramount even with an extra set.

I prefer that a lot more than only having the minumum amount of tire-ware.
 
I really want to like Loudon. It is the only track with it's one mile lay out.

I would like to see them racing there with tire-wear being a bigger factor.

It used to be better when air could get under the cars. Once they got sealed down by a splitter, it went to hell

As I have mentioned before, Loudon is my home track and I went to my first race there in 1996. I have been to the cup race a total of 8 times and also went to a bunch of Xfinity races over the years. There is no getting around it. The racing there sucks and they NEED to have major tire fall off to make it interesting or something like that. I also wish they'd put lights in. This is the first year since the pandemic we decided not to go. The only date being in September did not help as we are busy with other things this time of year. Honestly though, if it wasn't Chase's worst track and the racing was a little more exciting we'd make more of an effort regardless. Will likely go next year since it's in August but Chase is BAD there and qualifying showed that again. I have not looked up stats but I'd be shocked if this was not his worst track performance-wise.

They put on a great show when we saw them once. I remember the leaders were just crossing each other over in every corner for like 15 straight laps. We saw Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart both run in those cars and Stewart is just other level. He got shoved off the track on the back stretch and caught air but was still able to save it and get back on track.
 
Haven’t been super active lately. Been away from home for a week and don’t have my computer on me lol.

Gonna try to watch the race on my phone, which I hate doing. But- 😭
