From Dustin Long's Facebook:

NFL releases 2013 schedule and there are some conflicts with NASCAR Chase races in markets. Do you think this is a big deal?

2013 Chase races and NFL games:

Sept. 15 Chase opener at Chicagoland Speedway ... Minnesota at Chicago

Sept. 22 New Hampshire ... Tampa at New England Patriots (home opener)

Sept. 29 Dover ... Both Ravens & Eagles on the road

Oct. 6 Kansas ... Chiefs on the road

Oct. 12 Charlotte (Sat night) ... Panthers at home the following day

Oct. 20 Talladega ... Tampa at Atlanta (2 hours from Dega)

Oct. 27 Martinsville

Nov. 3 Texas ... Minnesota at Dallas

Nov. 10 Phoenix ... Houston at Arizona

Nov. 17 Homestead ... San Diego at Miami

It makes difference to me. Life is full of choices and if people choose to watch football, then so be it. As long as I don't have to hear about it, I really don't care what they watch.

Most people have a TV, smart phone and computer so it seems to me they could watch 3 different sports at once if they wanted - their choice.

NASCAR, NFL, NHL, MLB, NCAA Football & Basketball, I'm all in. I like a lot of sports. Isn't that why they invented PIP & DVR's? You may not like them but there's room for all of them. I used to be concerned with viewership of NASCAR but not so much anymore. I have a tough enough time worrying about whether or not I've got time to sit down to watch the race let alone the rest of the world.

Wow , there should be a pile of free NFL tickets on the market . Anybody on the forum have any that they need to get rid of in light of this news?

Same as last year...and the year before... and the year before.. Were NASCAR fans. We watch races! LOL Jk but for me, I don't care for football purely because it conflicts with my race watching. So I don't watch it. And that's that. I could care less really, less people may watch and NASCAR won't like it but football being on will not change the race. Which is where my attention will be. Football isn't even a viable option lol.

I haven't looked at the schedule yet but really, Thanksgiving? That's awesome that they put that match up out there. You are going down!

It's the Thanksgiving night game. I'll actually be in Western PA/Northern WV that weekend to see family so I wont get to go since the game in Baltimore. I'll be sure to rock my Ravens flags all weekend up in enemy territory though!

Good luck with that! ;)

Lol, I just hate the fact we have to be rivals with a team that has 6 superbowls that won 2 recently. So I cant even say "superbowl champs!" without the standard, "we'll we got 6"....ughhh one day we'll catch up!

We'll talk more when you wake up from your dream.

Well I couldn't hold it in any longer!

But I digress. This is a NASCAR thread, not football.

I think the ratings will continue along their normal lines regardless of the NFL schedule.

It's not very hard for me to make a decision between watching motorsports or stick and ball sports. Heck, I live right between Angel Stadium and the Honda Center, and the only events that I have attended, are Monster Energy Super Cross, PBR Bull Riding, or a few concerts. I can see Angel Stadium from where I live and yet I have never been to a baseball game there. Plus I can see and hear the firworks from Disneyland everynight but I think I have only went there twice in the past 25 years. It's either motorsports or nothing for me. Maybe a little football if there is no racing on.:D

Think someone said on Race Day, why not set up the chase so there can be more night races. I'm sure NASCAR would much rather go against College Football than the NFL.

How many of those tracks have lights though? I don't think that too many do.

Right, I dont think its many, but I guess they were saying, why not move some of the tracks with lights into the Chase.

How is this any different from years past?

Not much. When Joe Gibbs first got into NASCAR, the NFL and NASCAR had a partnership of sorts and the NFL was careful not to schedule games in towns with races on a particular weekend. Once that partnership went away and NASCAR decided to take on the NFL head-on, the NFL hasn't cared when they schedule games regarding to NASCAR's schedule.

seems to me that race fans are going to attend, or watch, any Cup race that is in direct conflict with a local NFL game

but it's the "casual-got-money-to-spend" fan that NASCAR is losing with this NFL schedule

in my area, that casual race fan might very well have bought a ticket to the Chicagoland race except for the fact that he's got season tickets for the Bears

NASCAR has got to realize by now that they can't compete head-on with the NFL

I wonder if they've ever made any attempt to somehow persuade the NFL to not schedule games to be in direct conflict with already scheduled races

looking at this year's schedule it almost looks like the NFL is going out of their way to step on NASCAR

five home games are in direct conflict with a previously scheduled local race

They should just start putting Football fields in the infield of the track. Then they can have football games and races going at the same place at the same time and fans can pick what to watch. Everyone wins. :D

The NFL does not give a rat's ass about NASCAR. I highly doubt NASCAR's schedule impacted the NFL's decision in any way.

Im not gonna lie, I would pay to see how that would turn out. Imagine the ref's trying to blow the whistle to end a play....gonna be a lot of late hits.

More lights. More NASCAR events should be held on Saturday nights. Stock racing is a Saturday night thing.

There was a time when baseball games were all held during the day. Now, they're all mostly held at night. Something similar could happen for NASCAR. It's not like Fox or NBC have anything better to show on Saturday nights. Oh shoot, these episodes of Cops and America's Most Wanted will have to be preempted. There could be some issues with ESPN during baseball/basketball season, but they can move those races to ABC!

Agreed. It always seems to have a different/better feel to it when they race under the lights. I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more Saturday night races.

I like racing. Is football the game with a funny looking ball that has a point on each end?? I get confused.

Racing on Saturday nights hurts the local tracks.

Seems like Chicago has always had a home game the same weekend as the NASCAR race in Joliet, usually the regular season opener. We justify going to the track that day by realizing that there's only one race, and lots of home games. We aren't the only ones, it's always full, with lots of jerseys.

Chicago's only had two Chase races and one was on a Monday.
