NFL Week 3

The call to ignore all the rules and hand the Seahawks the win there was the worst call in the history of professional sports.

bull****.

As a fan of the game it's disgusting. Last night's game with the field goal was bad enough but there was no question about this one. They are determining games and putting players safety at risk. The replacement refs need to go. Enough is enough.

Last night's call was legit. No review. This was bull****.

The Seachickens made it to the Super Bowl a few years ago on bull**** calls though.

'Clueless In Seattle' is the headline on ESPN this morning and how appropriate. I've really have been giving these refs some leeway being as they are replacements but what happened last night was horrible. I don't know what the original officiating crew's dispute is with the NFL is, and I really don't care, but those two parties need to get this ironed out. The credibility of the 2012 has been lost IMO.

These officials aren't qualified to officiate a celebrity softball game much less the NFL. That was the most asinine call I've ever seen in any game. The NFL should reverse the decision and give the win to the Packers.

Even if you take the catch out of the equation, what about the offensive pass interference?

You can always over look that also and go back to the pass interference call on Sam Shields that was called. It was offensive pass interference on Rice and that would've ended it for Seattle. That Golden Tate is just a waste, it's obvious he still lives by Notre Dame values.

Yes, just a comedy of errors. I'm not a betting man and not familiar with that scene but what do you think the odds makers view on all of this is. The NFL results are probably one of the most heavily wagered on events that there are. This can't be going over well there either I'd imagine.

They are estimating that decision had a 150-240 million dollar impact. That's a lot of mad people and they were giving out the refs names on ESPN. Maybe not a good idea LOL

The NFL has issued the following statement regarding Golden Tate's winning touchdown reception for Seattle against Green Bay on Monday night:

In Monday's game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, Seattle faced a 4th-and-10 from the Green Bay 24 with eight seconds remaining in the game.
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw a pass into the end zone. Several players, including Seattle wide receiver Golden Tate and Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings, jumped into the air in an attempt to catch the ball.
While the ball is in the air, Tate can be seen shoving Green Bay cornerback Sam Shields to the ground. This should have been a penalty for offensive pass interference, which would have ended the game. It was not called and is not reviewable in instant replay.
When the players hit the ground in the end zone, the officials determined that both Tate and Jennings had possession of the ball. Under the rule for simultaneous catch, the ball belongs to Tate, the offensive player. The result of the play was a touchdown.
Replay Official Howard Slavin stopped the game for an instant replay review. The aspects of the play that were reviewable included if the ball hit the ground and who had possession of the ball. In the end zone, a ruling of a simultaneous catch is reviewable. That is not the case in the field of play, only in the end zone.
Referee Wayne Elliott determined that no indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the call on the field, and as a result, the on-field ruling of touchdown stood. The NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video today and supports the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling following the instant replay review.
The result of the game is final.
Applicable rules to the play are as follows:
A player (or players) jumping in the air has not legally gained possession of the ball until he satisfies the elements of a catch listed here.
Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3 of the NFL Rule Book defines a catch:
A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:
(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and
(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and
(c) maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).
When a player (or players) is going to the ground in the attempt to catch a pass, Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 states:
Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.
Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 5 states:
Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.

Too funny.....

Lingerie Football League Releases Statement On NFL Ref

The National Football League is having a dispute with its referees that we all know and now definitively love and miss with all of our hearts. But can you believe that the NFL is using referees that once worked Lingerie Football League games? Former chief of the officiating crew Mike Pereira dropped that in August during the Hall of Fame Game. That ref, Craig Ochoa, was fired from the LFL due to his ‘incompetence.’

The LFL issued a statement concerning Ochoa:
Because of the LFL’s perception it is that much more critical for us to hire officiating crews that are competent, not only for the credibility of our game but to keep our athletes safer. Due to several on-field incompetent officiating we chose to part ways with with a couple crews which apparently are now officiating in the NFL. We have a lot of respect for our officials but we felt the officiating was not in line with our expectations.

We have not made public comment to date because we felt it was not our place to do so. However in light of tonight’s event, we felt it was only fair that NFL fans knew the truth as to who are officiating these games.

Twitter goin' crazy as GB's Clay Matthews apparently posted Roger Goddels office phone number on facebook!

I hope the NFL keeps these refs. They couldn't buy better publicity if they wanted to. Love it or hate it, this stuff is awesome entertainment.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Las Vegas oddsmakers say $300 million or more changed hands worldwide on a controversial referee call that decided the Monday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks.
Sports book chief Jay Kornegay said Tuesday that bettors at The LVH casino registered shock, some celebration, then anger when the outcome of the Packers game against the Seahawks was decided due to what he called “a blatant bad call.”
The Seahawks won 14-12 after referees ruled that a Seattle receiver came down with the ball in a pile of bodies in the end zone.
Gambling expert RJ Bell of Las Vegas-based Pregame.com says he thinks two-thirds of bets worldwide were on the Packers, and that sports books took in at least $150 million because of the call.

So much ado about this call. Seems as though you people have forgotten about the various other blown calls by the regular refs. Google the worst ten calls in the nfl and see there have been many that have even affected playoff games.
