Nicknames in nascar

Ecclesiastes 9:12

"Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them."

Obviously, Matt was talking about Logano.

LOL, this is perfect

Darrell Waltrip Jaws obvious reasons
Davy Allison was Wavy Davey in his rookie year
Bill Elliott was Lonesome Bill from Dawsonville
Gentleman Ned Jarrett
Buddy Baker was the Gentle Giant
Glenn Roberts got "Fireball" from his baseball days.

After Rusty Wallace flipped and landed upside down during a practice in the mid 80s Dale Earnhardt called him "Rubberhead". During the same time frame he also called Geoff Bodine who was bald "Conehead" .
People was calling Dale" IronHead" back then as well.

I always liked the IronHead nickname better than the intimidator.

I know it's been his nickname for awhile, but why is Kenny Wallace nicknamed Herman.

Dumbo?

I don't get the "closer" nickname for Harvick. His nick is still Happy Harvick as far as I'm concerned. You can't just go changing nicknames. And I don't like the whole "give yourself a nickname" movement, such as Rowdy and Outlaw.

I still think Mr. Excitement is the greatest nickname. Although I admit as a Spencer fan I am slightly biased. ;)

Mr. Excitement was a great nick for Jimmy Spencer. He was one of the last characters Nascar had.

He got the nickname while racing modifieds in the Northeast, prior to moving south.

Yep. Never got to watch him race modifies except for Loudon after his Daytona win. If I remember correctly he crashed out hard and never stepped in a mod again.

I never got to see him run the modifieds at all. The first time I ever heard of him was from an old Stock Car Racing magazine cover that was about his rivalry with Richie Evans. Early to mid 80s stuff.

The first time I remember seeing him race was in a Busch Grand National car for Frank Cici (sp?). He won that one at Hickory 1989.

He lived up to that name with a bump and run on Dale Jarrett on the last lap (possibly a spin and run memory is a little fuzzy on that part). Jarett was pissed and promised a pay back.

Same time period (“Caution! Brontosaurus Crossing” signs everywhere) he ran a Busch race in Hampton. Did a 360 comin' off four. Never came to a stop. Didn't hit anything and nothing hit him. Might have been excitin' had it been intentional but it wasn't.

Finished first car three laps down.
