NNS @ Nashville II

I hope Na$car nails him with a BIG fine for "actions detrimental to stock car racing". Everybody pushes the limit to gain performance advantages and if caught pay the price. But smashing the trophy?? Is he mentally stable? Bet his momma's real proud. Joe Gibbs too.

<edit>
“Everybody’s (smashed a guitar) except race car drivers. Those sorry saps take it home in one piece. I’ll break it up and share it with the team.”

Sorry saps,,that's what he thinks of those that have won that trophy before. Sorry saps, huh?
Nice to know what he thinks of his fellow competitors.

no offense folks but he won that trophy and could do anything he wanted with it. bad taste yes, appalling no.

While it pissed people off, it was showmanship. Pete Townsend-esque. Touch of Jimi Hendrix, with a little punk rock thrown in.

People may not like him, but he's got their attention.

Hope Gibson tells him those guitars are awarded and are NOT for sale.

I like Kyle....But you don't do that to a trophy. That was just wrong

That was the most disgusting display of stupidity by a driver that I have witnessed at a race event in quite some time.

Kyle Busch is an ego-maniac. It is all about him! I think the boy wants to have people dislike him to draw even more attention to himself. He is sick!

I have a feeling that this will cost him some fans and give his detractors even more ammunition to hate him.

He may think he looked cool but all he did was demonstrate his immaturity and gross stupidity. I feel that what he did was an insult to many people involved with the speedway, Gibson and Sam Bass.

I'm still ticked off about it today. He never THINKS before he does things or says things. I can't imagine any of the other drivers doing that. They have too much class and show their appreciation for their wins and their pride to have those trophies. Brad Coleman fell asleep holding his last year on the way home. Carl gave his away, which he does with most of his trophies. I didn't know he did that for a long time. He shows respect and gratefulness at winning it and then afterward gives it to a disabled child. That's class.

Any one of the drivers can act like jerks at times over their radios, on the track, whatever. That being said, I can't think of another driver who would have done that. For those of you who go to your local tracks, you know the people who would give their right arm to move up in to a higher series and they never get the chance. It costs them a fortune just to run at the local tracks. Kyle needs to get off his high horse and remember how lucky he is that he was given the chance in the first place and has been on some of the finest teams.

For those of you saying Pete Townsend or any of the other members of The WHO would have been proud of him, think again. Those guys smashed THEIR OWN equipment. If they were given a special guitar even as a gift in a city they were playing, don't think for one minute they'd diss those people and smash it. Maybe those of you who aren't musicians don't realize the skill, the soul, the hard work and love put into making each and every guitar. Nascar.com had an article about the special care taken in making that trophy and how proud the people are who make them. Those guitars are master pieces. I guess they shouldn't let a petulant child like Kyle even hold one.

I may not have liked Kyle before, but I respected he was a good driver. He has lost any respect I had for him with this stunt. It really makes me sick to my stomach.

gibson has gotten more free publicity out of this than from any other winners circle presentation, probably more than all of them combined. i doubt that they are upset about it. people need to lighten up a bit. <g>

From NASCAR.com

"Ozzy's done it, right?" Busch said

Nugent," crew chief Jason Ratcliff suggested.

"Pete Townsend?" Busch wondered. "I think Ozzy's done it, too. I think KISS has even done it. Everybody's done it, expect race car drivers. All them sorry saps, they take it home in one piece and put it on their shelf, man. I break that thing up and spread it within the team so everybody's got a piece."

That's all he was trying to do, Busch said. He made a promise to his team members last year that if he ever won a race at Nashville, he would give them each a piece of the guitar.

"I always said, 'Man, if I win here, I'd smash that thing.' I had to stick to my word. It's karma or something, I guess. I won here, so I tried to smash it up."

The problem was, it didn't break into many tiny pieces.

"It didn't break according to plan," Busch said. "I was actually hoping to get more pieces for the guys on the team. We'll go back to the shop and cut it up, and they can have nice, smooth pieces of it."

Bass was first taken aback by Busch's impromptu celebration in Victory Lane.

"Just like everybody else in Victory Lane, I was stunned when it happened," said Bass, who was brought into the infield media center moments before Busch's post-race news conference.

But then Bass heard Busch's explanation of the smashed guitar.

"When I took a picture with Kyle as I traditionally do, the first thing he said to me was that there was no disrespect to me or the trophy or the speedway or any of the sponsors," Bass said. "He just said that he told his guys that he was going to give each one of them a piece of the trophy whenever he won the guitar.

"That was his way, in the spirit of rock and roll to break the guitar like a KISS concert and share it with all the guys on the team. That made me feel a lot better. As a person that loves rock and roll the way the way I do and appreciates a good show, Kyle Busch put on as great show in Victory Lane and shocked the world."

This is racing NOT a rock and roll show.If he wants to be a rock star so bad get out from behind the wheel and go get a gig somewhere.Just to let you know I won't be buying tickets to The Arse&Ears Rock and Roll Show.

LOL

I just wonder what the old timers like Allison, Jr Johnson, Yarborough, King Richard etc really think of him smashing a trophy.

I'd be willing to bet it's not favorable.

Not a chance.

If you want to excuse bad behavior that is your choice.

I grew up in an age where you showed respect and gratitude for the things that you were given or earned.

The idea of destroying something in this manner is still repugnant to most civilized society.

It was a TROPHY that was made from a guitar to REPRESENT the race in MUSIC CITY Nashville.

No , it was GUITAR, made to LOOK like a trophy.

Y'all just need to get over it, you're all doing the exact same thing you accuse him of doing....whiiining.

What did he do wrong? Bass accepted his explanation. Me, I couldn't care less what he does with the guitar. Edwards giving it to the kid was a nice PR move but its probably either sitting on a shelf gathering dust or has already been sold on EBay. Y'all are letting Kyle have too much control of your emotions. Last I looked the sun still came up and he's racing at Pocono so it must not have been that bad of a sin.

Oh, and more important, at least to me, Nashville seats 50,000 people. It looks like maybe 35,000 showed up. That isn't much support.

Did catch ESPN playing the radio broadcast where they caught Kyle saying to his crew that they would all get a piece of the guitar tonight?

Still a STUPID thing to do. Take the paycheck and buy em all a new guitar.

Trophy

Sure hope they don't give him an American Flag if he wins the week of July 4th. Hate to see what he would do with it.

There are way too many NASCAR races in Tennessee. 1 truck and 2 Nationwide races at Nashville, 1 truck and 1 Nationwide at Memphis, 1 truck, 2 Nationwide and 2 Sprint Cup races at Bristol. Maybe that is the problem.

Oh for crying out loud! I am so tired of the PC vanilla drivers that thank their sponsors and hit all of the high notes that I could just puke! I was pretty impressed that Kyle did what he did. If it wasn't for Kyle we wouldn't have any thing to talk about here.

Did you all see Tony throw the trophy from Pocono in the pond today? J/K :D

Nashville SS should have one of it's NWS dates cut.

But, I agree. The trucks race in Tennessee three times a year AND twice at Martinsville (which is like an hour from Bristol:rolleyes:) but still no Richmond race.

I'd much rather see NASCAR take a Nationwide race from Richmond to run a Truck race instead. Quite honestly, the Nationwide races have become dull and boring now.

Yeah, I agree completely.

Yeah, I agree completely.
I went to an exhibition race during the inaugural Truck Series season. Haven't been to one since. Why? Because they don't race at Richmond.

I wouldn't mind an ARCA/CWTS doubleheader. Or maybe a Truck race in Rockingham! :beerbang:
